Inspired by the recent Man U match where Maguire captained a lineup against one captained by Fernandes, were we to do similar (which we probably have done to be honest, albeit more quietly), what would be your lineup from the current registered squad to give an even split in overall strengths between the two lineups and the most competitive game?

My two:

Henderson
Baldock, Retsos, Egan, Robinson, Osborn
Lundstram, Berge, Fleck
Sharp (c), McBurnie

Moore
K.Freeman, Basham, Jagielka, O’Connell, Stevens
Besic, Norwood (c), L.Freeman
Mousset, McGoldrick

Surprised to see no place for OG, despite being one of our top scorers this season.

No Rodwell either. Has Zivkovic returned to his parent club?

I think you've split the squad really well there. I think Team 1 wins that game but it'd be bloody close.

Great split. Only questionable one I have is Robinson at LCB. Can he play here? I'd maybe put Retsos at LCB and Rodwell at RCB

Team one wins because John Fleck is in team one.

Everyone says that in training whichever team ‘Flecky’ is on wins.

It’s why we signed him. Yes he can also play LWB, but he played centre-back at QPR and I believe Wilder suggested when he signed that he’d compete with JOC.

From an Athletic piece on him: “His rebirth under Holloway – he played 34 games for QPR in 2017-18 – came after a switch to his preferred position of centre-back. At 5ft 11in, Robinson may not conform to the expected mould for a centre-half but his positioning, aggression and willingness to put his body on the line persuaded Holloway to play him in the middle rather than at left-back.”

Even allowing for his solid debut, however, what lies ahead now is plenty of that “work away from the lights” Wilder views as so essential for his side to go toe-to-toe with their Premier League peers. Chief among his tasks will be the getting up to speed with the unique system that will see Robinson expected to get forward in a similar vein to O’Connell down the left flank.

“Jack is a player who I believe will add to squad,” says the United manager. “It is such an important position for us. He can do left wing-back as well, plus left central midfield. He’s an aggressive competitor and I believe he will bring something to changing room and the training ground, too.”

It was Retsos or Rodwell for the RCB role in my eyes. Were Besic to be confirmed as back at Everton that’s probably where I’d have fitted in.

In contrast to Besic, Zivkovic was visible I think in the recent training video so you’d assume all is well there.

Apart from the fact we don't have Besic.............?

All said, the Keeper is the most important position for us going forward.
If we get Hendo back, brilliant, if not, we need a keeper desperately.
Moore is ok but not a Prem keeper really, Verrips is yet to make a mark, and Eastwood need to be out getting regular football, so to me, if the touted £20-25m for Hendo is correct, that's where my budget would go, securing the next England number 1 on a 5 year deal would be amazing.

Till there’s any confirmation from either club that he’s gone back, he’s fair game to include in this entirely hypothetical exercise.

I thought it had been reported that Besic had gone back to Goodison, and that was also the reason he hasn't been in any of the past weeks training clips?? Or did I miss something?

The club posted a video of him (and specifically him) at training a few weeks ago. I’m not saying he will not be heading back. But, and again, till there’s any confirmation from either club that he’s gone back...

Yes, a few weeks ago, he went back after Eid didn't he??
Defo not in last week's training vids?
God knows.
