Unless you've been living in a cave for the past few weeks you'll know that it is the US Presidential election tomorrow, which is widely being called the most significant of modern times. It is also of course an away day for United at Bristol City
Which other United games have happened on the same day as a major news story?
The biggest one was 9/11 when United were away to Grimsby in the League Cup (I consider myself an avid Blade but I struggled to get too wound up by that game on 'The Day The World Changed' ( I've included highlights of the game on this thread, I've never seen such a well observed minute's silence).
I remember on the night when Princess Diana died I had been to Huddersfield to watch us draw 0-0 (a disappointing game given our impressive start under Nigel Spackman).
The only Britush general election that clashed with a United game was in 2015, a play off game against Swindon played on a Thursday. I walked back from the ground despondent about United's promotion chances after a home defeat and then found out the Tories had won the election (not the result I wanted either).
On the day of the Hillsborough tragedy, United were away at Northampton, again another game where it was difficult getting too involved with due to the breaking news.
I'm sure there are plenty of others that I've forgotten about. I remember on the day Princess Margaret died in 2002 we beat Portsmouth 4-3 (and there was the worst observed minute's silence in history.
I'm not going to reveal who I want to win tomorrow's election. I'll just say Rak-Sakyi is the only right winger I'm wanting to do well!
