Bradders, steel core

You can take the boy out of Sheffield, .............

Edit: Put another way, if you needed a mate to go to the World Cup with, name me a better one

Battlers as opposed to hard or tough? (Can be tough as well)

Hodgson
Dearden
Bradshaw
Whitehouse
Trusson
Hodgson? Of the 2 I have seen, I would go for Bill, from the 1950s/60s team. He once gave up his normal game in attack to man-mark Danny Blanchflower in the Cup at Spurs, and never left his side. It was a crucial part of a 3-0 shock win. I hadn't thought of Dearden, but as soon as I saw him on your list, I thought he is an absolute must. A player of extraordinary courage.

Billy Dearden, put his head in where some wouldn't put a boot for a goal chance.

One from more recent times.

Michael Doyle.

Even though he suffered the igmony of being a part of the worst United side in my lifetime, I never saw him shirk a tackle, or not give it all. Limited footballer but one that got credit for battling away and never giving him.

I knew exactly what Doyle was and what he brought to the team after he was released and the following season I was subjected to a season of Dean Hammond
I remember Hull's 5th goal at Wembley, Doyle was the only one trying to catch Meyler and was rightly breathing out of his arse at the end of it. everyone else had given up but him
