And anyone attending can see the most challenged looking man in football.

The Newcastle U23 coach is Peter Beardsley.

Cracking player though !!

Seriously, it should be a cracking game and dare I say a better game for no first team players being in the starting 11.

A lot of responsibility on Slater, Semple, Gilmour and Smith as the older players of the team and at only 18years old.

Can’t wait to see our lads getting in and about these Premier League Stars.....

Shame for me (and a few other Geordie Blades) that it's not up here!
Here's their team from the recent 2-2 draw with the Mackems:
Newcastle United Under-23s: Paul Woolston; Craig Spooner (Yasin Ben El-Mhanni 81), Michael Newberry, Curtis Good, Josef Yarney; Jack Hunter, Mo Sangare; Victor Fernandez, Mackenzie Heaney (Owen Gallacher 71), Callum Roberts (Callum Smith 105); Luke Charman.
Subs not used: Otto Huuhtanen, Ben Kitchen, Stefan O'Connor, Tyrique Bartlett.

Nope, I've not heard of any of them either! ;)

I haven’t heard of many either but every one of them is a first, second, third or fourth year professional.
Doing my homework, they have another 8 players not mentioned above.

23 players in total to choose from. Plus the odd scholar.

Our young team boast Semple, Gilmour, Smith, tonight who are first year professionals. All the rest are still second year scholars.
It’s also interesting that we don’t have a second year professional at the club.

3 players in total to choose from tonight.plus our scholars.

Shouldn’t be a contest really..... just watch our lads go at them.

Thought Beardsley had left or suspended due to bullying and racist behaviour?

Well deserved win tonight aside from the usual consistent 23’s Gilmour/Smith/Slater and Semple I thought Will Portman was excellent tonight great attitude and fully committed

That was a hard working win for the boys.

Our Newcastle friends seemed very confident in the warm up.

First two minutes saw Slater nail one and Smith bang in the opener.

The tone of the game was set.

Great spirited display from the boys. I thought young Cantrill was excellent tonight along side the usual suspects of Semple, Slater, Gilmour and Smith.

Make no mistake, this is a big competition to get this far in...... A big crowd at the lane for the semi final would be well deserved.

I thought Stephen Mallon had a very good game. He looked quite Brooke’s-like at times.
Newcastle players were physically bigger than ours and looked generally older. Ours were definitely up-for-it and battled hard.
Their goal was an error by Dewhurst - straight thru his legs- but other than that he had a very good game.
Their number 11, Victor Fernandez, was full of tricks and very entertaining to watch, but we managed to snuff him out most of the time, except for their goal.

Great performance by our young team, I would call it an honest performance held together by our core players Smith, Regan, Gilmour and Semple However all our youngsters put in a fine shift and 2 cracking goals from Ti Smith, he was due them, sealed the win. It was great to watch Mallon when he was pushed forward in the 2nd period, he seemed to form a partnership with Smith that was a problem for Newcastle. Mallon is ideal when protecting a lead, he can hold the ball in tight situations and no one knows what he will do next.
Great first half with a fine Smith goal and an easier opportunity was saved by the Newcastle keeper. 2 sups and a change in formation by Newcastle saw them exert pressure that resulted in an untidy goal. Our coaches made a couple of subs ,went to 4 at the back and pushed Mallon forward all resulting in us gradually imposing ourselves and the 2nd goal by Ti Smith was worth a win on its own
So another strong performance from our defenders, Hard work in the middle and 2 great strikes take out another Cat. 1 and side sets up a semi final tie that, although it will be a Cat. 1 side, we will fear no one.
Thanks to all for a great night, it was even balmy in Stocksbridge
