I remember in the Lemmy documentary it was revealed that Lemmy had been around so long that he “remembered a time before Rock n Roll”. Warnock’s not quite the Lemmy of football management, but he was certainly managing before the Premier League existed. He was managing Notts County in what is now the PL while it was still called Division One, back in 1992. When the Blades won promotion from Division 4 in 1981 he was managing Burton. No doubt he’s one of the old school, and it’s a credit to him that he’s still in there earning a wage when most of his counterparts from the 90s are now gone.

Presuming he’s still managing Cardiff, it could be his last visit to the Lane next season as a manager, so we should all give him plenty of respect and applause. He truly is a legend.

By the way, has the big nosed twat congratulated us on our promotion yet? :-)

No denying what he achieved with us. But in my view, had had a lot more time to do it than a manager in this era would get.

For me, he soured it a bit with the shenanigans towards the end, bit too much self interest considering how big a Blade he claimed to be. But fairs fair, he did achieve, so deserves some applause.

Yes, he rang Wilder after we got promoted:-

Why not start a derogatory thread about one of our many shit managers instead?

Plenty to choose from, Robson, Weir, Heath...

United's had three top managers since I've been watching them over the past 55 years: Harris, Basset & Warnock. Wilder could join them but it's a bit premature to put him with the others after just 1 year on the job. When Warnock joined us gates were 13k and we were on the road to oblivion. When he left the gates were 30k and we're getting the benefits of that legacy now.

The ones slagging Warnock off are probably the same ones making the same spiteful comments about Brayford, They're just picking up on a few cliches and taking them as fact just as they would in pig land. Warnock's act was just that - one big fucking act designed to deflect attention away from the team and designed to get under the opposition's skin. It worked quite well and to our advantage quite often if I remember. That it's now getting under the skin of our some of our own supporters some 10 years later I find quite amusing. I bet Neil does as well.

Well, no. The bit that gets under my skin is the reverence for a man who nearly fucked up a promotion bid and royally fucked up a survival bid on the back of his own ego. If he finds that amusing then it does indeed confirm him as a cunt.

Brayford can do one as well.

Had his faults but I'll never slag him off because of the success and the memories.
I've lived through the Bassett and Warnock eras. A little too late for Harris (Furphy was manager when I started) but Ken Jnr only has Warnock's success to savour.

BTW - don't diminish what Porterfield did for us in really challenging times.

And - I'll allus be grateful to Clough for the cup memries. That put some pride back into the club too.

Now, Wilder
The legacy begins........

Nice to read, didn't see this before

"It’ll be good to go (back to Bramall Lane)," the Sheffielder told Talksport on Tuesday. "I contacted Chris when they got promotion, ‘cause he’s… I’m not saying he’s like me, but he’s a Blade. He knows what it’s about, you’ve got to care a bit. It is slightly different at Sheffield."

United have been by far and away the best team in League One this season, evidenced by their nine-point advantage over second-placed Bolton Wanderers.

And according to Warnock, the Blades can carry their momentum into the second tier with the help of one or two additions.

"He’s done that hard bit and they can do well next year," he added. "The Championship’s difficult but they’ve got great backing up there with the fans, and they’ll get behind them.

Sheffield United fans celebrate their side's promotion

"One or two additions in the summer (and) I think they’ll do alright. That’s why they’ll probably be hoping we do well on Friday (against rivals Sheffield Wednesday) because they’d like to see a Sheffield derby back on the fixture list, I’m sure."

He's not like me cos I'm like me, and nobody is more me than me.

Warnock is an arrogant big nosed cunt who couldn't motivate us to get a point to ensure top flight survival because was more concnerned about his own contract.

Never ever will forgive him for that act of trechory.

It was The Sun who dragged up the topic of Warnock's contract on the eve of the Wigan match.

Not much Warnock can do to prevent that.

It's funny how people are usually happy to treat the tabloid's shit-stirring nonsense with the contempt it deserves.

Unless it suits their agenda to treat it as the gospel truth for ever more.

Love Neil dearly. But hope he gets booed to fuck just to piss him off when he comes back here :D

I don't think anyone would dispute that but what separates Warnock's & Bassett's success was taking us from shit street to the premier league.

A really nice guy who created a fantastic, yet divisive media persona. This took all the pressure of his players and heaped it on referees and opposition players, managers and boardrooms. I think he lacked tactically, but could motivate players as well as anyone really. His brother, John, was also hugely influential in the development of our academy. He, arguably, he has the more enduring legacy.

Let's not forget that the season he took us up to the Prem, we were in the top two spots all season. Now that is an achievement. He bought some duds, but on the whole he created what the press used to love to call "the Battling Blades", a team of lads who played to the final whistle, and would run through brick walls in a red and white shirt.

Yes he divides opinion, but let's not airbrush his achievements out of history.

A quality manager who had his own schtick and used it to full effect to wind up the opposition staff, players and fans. All a ruse to take the pressure off our players, create a siege mentality and unite the club. Sure he was a motivator and wasn't a tactical genius, but he's been pretty successful since he left us wherever he's been replicating the same formula.

He has an ego, but most good managers do. When people have met him they're pretty quick to praise the person behind circus act.

As someone said we had 12,000 crowds and were playing terrrible football when he arrived. With a shoestring budget he built us up into playoff contenders and then actually got us over the line and into the Premier League. We had some magnificent moments along the way and memories I cherish.

He'll always get a good hand from me.
