Just returned to Watford after a loan spell with Port Vale. Scored 6 goals for Vale and seem to remember him being a handful for our defence (not hard, I know). Only 20, cheap and a realistic option for us.

Big potential, but inconsistent:

Uche Ikpeazu: Watford striker needs consistency - Rob Page
Port Vale boss Rob Page says Uche Ikpeazu needs to become more consistent after the striker returned to parent club Watford, following the end of his loan spellat Vale Park.

Despite being Vale's joint-top scorer with six goals, Ikpeazu, 20, last found the net on 3 October and made the last of his 28 appearances on Boxing Day.

"Sometimes with Uche, it's a little bit unpredictable," said Page.

"We thank him for his goals but we feel we can improve on that now."

Ikpeazu's last start for Vale was in their 2-0 defeat at Burton - a match in which he was sent off for two bookable offences - and Page admits the forward was unlucky to find his route back into the side blocked by in-form fellow striker AJ Leitch-Smith.

Ikpeazu return right decision - Page

"Uche started really well, dipped away a little bit, got sent off, and AJ came in and that's the nature of the game - you've got to be patient," Page told BBC Radio Stoke.

"It's frustrating for him because he's maybe got pressure from Watford to be playing, from himself and his agent as he's out of contract at the end of the season and needs to put himself in the shop window - but I've got to be true to the lads who are playing well."

Page says he hopes Ikpeazu can take some lessons out of his six-month stay with Vale.

"I think his better games were at home with 4,500 cheering his name but away from home, not so much of an impact and I've had a chat with him about that.

"That's something for his development and for him to learn from."

Sammon, Adams, Higdon and Done are our other options. All very inconsistent (that's being nice) and only Adams has potential. Probably earns less than all our other options as well. I honestly can't see what other realistic options there is, if we are after some sort of presence up front.

If we could do a permanent deal, I'd be pleased with that. He's a player I've suggested before along with Ben Pearson who I'd also take but hear that Preston and Bournemouth are now showing interest.

Ikpeazu is incredibly strong and reasonably quick. A bit clumsy looking at times but could be an asset in the long run. Only concern is I think he has a bit of the Christian Nade's about him in that he struggles to last 90 minutes and fades badly in games.

Weren't we the best home scoring team in the league through 2015?
I think we need some defenders.

He hammered our defence at Port Vale until we brought Terry Kennedy on to keep him quiet.

Better than Sammon, cheaper than Sammon, and out of contract at the end of the season too. He's the sort of player to take a small gamble on. He's a very good athlete and he's shown flashes at Vale.

All the more reason not to sign him then, if he's better than what we've got :D

Sounds like he ran our defence ragged yet again when he came on.

That's what aggression and athleticism can do at this level. Maybe we'll have the audacity to try it for ourselves one day, probably in the very distant future.

Don't be so stupid.

Adkins was Reading manager when Ikpeazu was there, so he knows all about him.

If we are not interested, it probably says more about the players true ability, than a few fleeting moments we have all seen him.

I don't think he's got great ability, but he's young, very athletic, has scored a few goals in this league, is available on a free in the summer, would be a low risk gamble and is exactly the sort you'd at least want to have on the bench in this league.

You've got to cotton on to players like this before they become prolific and attract interest from higher divisions, maybe he'll be one of them. On a free transfer, it's worth finding out.

Nathan Byrne was one of those. As was Kemar Roofe, but he's probably beyond us now as well.

And what about Nathan Blake ? What an arse he had ! He could knock defenders over with just a flick of one buttock. Loved him in the Blades attack. Saw him destroying the Geordies 2-0 all by himself for us at the Lane.

In all seriousness , Ikpeazu is a great shout ......but we've been beaten to him by that well-run club , Blackpool.

Released by Watford.

Could be a good target man option for us.

Younger and more athletic than any of the other names mentioned so far.

I was in NatWest just off the moor years ago, when he'd just signed for us and he was in front of me, changing his branch. I confirm his arse was massive.

You had a good look then bush, each to there own and all that;)
Couldn't miss it tbf. I didn't even realise it was Blake until I heard him talking in a Welsh accent so I had a quick peek round him and saw some ID he was showing to the cashier. He was just fucking huge. More like a bouncer than a footballer.

He was a big lad.Bit off thread but many moons ago when I was a ball boy at the lane, reserve game vs L***s I was just to the left of the net kop end and John Luckic scrambled across his goal saved the shot and out popped his rather large hairy bollock gave me nightmares for years

Extremely raw but certainly a handful on his day. I’ve been suggesting him since I first saw him play for Donny the season before last. Big, strong, fairly quick and very unpredictable. Likes to shoot on sight. But for whatever reason, he doesn’t seem to have really kicked on since some early promise. Perhaps worth a gamble still as he’s only young and has some of the raw materials to make a good player.

Reminds me of Christian Nade. He was another who looked to have big potential but he never realised it. Uche might go the same way I fear.

I think we’d have some similar frustrations to those we have with Adams but if we had Adams, DCL and Ikpeazu on the books, there’s surely a good chance that at least one of them would become a very good player for us. He’s the sort of player I wouldn’t be against us giving a chance to but can see why he might not be near the top of Chris Wilder’s agenda.

I'd sign him even with a view to loaning him out. A small gamble that could really pay off.

Obviously they'll be loaning him out next season then.

Ripped us apart twice last year for different clubs, released from Watford be an awesome free signing
