This was on a recommendation from a Blade on Sheffield Forum (Paul, known on there as "Poundsworth", lives on the Lincolnshire Coast, in case any of you know him), anyway, it's a big old traditional pub that has basically built a brewery in the car park. The owner had about 10+ beers on hand pull, plus his own keg stuff. He had Sky sports on TV, and did pub grub.
It was quite and eye opener to come back from the match (Nick Blackman scored the only goal, George Long was subbed into the net and pulled off some great saves) and walk in, to find it full of West Ham and Arsenal fans, all watching the late kick off game on TV. The atmosphere was fine, and even wearing SUFC gear, we didn't feet threatened.
Anyway, after a night out in London, we got back just as the landlord was locking up (we had access to the guest rooms via another door, but I wanted to get a last pint in), he had rung the bell for "Time", but as the pub was almost empty, he asked what we wanted, so it was a beer for me and glass of wine for the missus.
While I was drinking, we got chatting and he said how all the young lads in area would come in and order Fosters (or some such lager) and the landlord would say, "sure, but before I get it you, why don't you try a half of our own lager, on the house" of course they never say no to a free drink, and he said 9 times out of 10, he converted them to his in-house lager, and they continued to drink it every time they went in.
I finished my pint and was about to head to bed when he said, "which of my beers did you like the best today?", so I pointed it out, and he said "have one on me", so it was another round of drinks for me and the missus. While I was drinking it he said, "well if you like that style of beer, you will like this", and poured us both more free drinks.
As this was almost finished, he pointed to a pump and said, "did you manage to try that one this afternoon, before the match?, it ran out but I have just put it back on, have one on me......"
Anyway, I hope he is still doing well, it was a proper old boozer and his beers were good. I think the most expensive one was 2.40, not bad in London!
