U21s v SWFC U21s - Monday 14th Oct, 1900 BDTBL - During International Break - Get Down There

A very scrappy performance typical of a derby game. They came to play deep, frustrate and counter on the break and it worked first half. They played a high press throughout and got a reward for our sloppy play at the end when we gave them their goal. I expect their first team to play the same way in November. They had a few youngsters who had pace to burn in numbers 7 and 8 and the sub who came on down the right. The real speed merchant however was Seriki and they couldn't cope with him second half.

Always helps to have a natural goal scorer in the team and Marsh showed it with his calm finish for the first and penalty for the second. Overall not the standard we have come to expect from our U21's but International call ups disrupted the team as did the shoe horning in of 2 senior players to get match fitness. A win against our rivals is always welcome so credit to them tonight for that and the unbeaten run goes on.

When I’ve watched under 21s before, those passes from Faxon have been easily handled by his teammates coming back and laying balls off. Although in the past he’s been passing out to Peck and before that Arblaster. It’s all about development, and they have to keep doing it until they get better at it, because it’s so necessary in the modern game.
Blacker and Aston have handled those situations superbly this season.

Disappointing performance to be honest. When there's a few first teamers playing you tend to expect some improvement, but they sometimes seem to upset the rhythm and style of the regular U21 side. Tonight the changes meant Blacker was pushed up front, Easton into midfield, Waldron to right midfield. I think the regular U21 players may expect the first teamers to take responsibility, but they don't have a great understanding with the youngsters and are mainly playing for their own fitness. We seemed to be playing walking football at times with poor movement and little creativity.

We improved a bit second half, but we should expect more from this set of players.

Nice evening out at the lane. Great turnout from us and very commendable by them lot too. I think recent tragic events influenced the attendance.

Was impressed with them in attack. Looked powerful and in tune with eachother. Their manager needs to shut up though. He barks instructions constantly. They aren’t allowed to think for themselves.

From our usual u21s, I was impressed with our 1,6,7 for the most part. Nobody else made me raise an eyebrow.

Thought McCallum was really poor in 1st half. Seriki did ok I thought. Robbo looked comfortable and Marsh did enough.

Worst bit by far was choosing to have a salad bowl pre-match from Waitrose, instead of the usual fare. Shockingly shite. My son asked me if I was having a mid life crisis. Maybe…

Thought Seriki had a good game and was the standout player. Blades more of the ball first half but they had the better chances and Faxon made a good save. Second half blades, comfortably on top. For them thought Fusire (no8) looked useful. Moses (9) and Sequiri (2) were ok. And their sub Phuthi (16) made two good runs. Saw Hamer, Brooks and Peck watching. Chris Morgan, Knill and Lester too.

Agree that number 8 caused us all sorts of problems.

Any chance we can snatch him off them 🤪

Our goal from open play was a good example of keeping a cool head in front of goal. He was set up nicely, but Instead of leathering it, his football brain kicked in, and he placed it perfectly.
I hope Moore can do the same.?

Coulibaly really looks the part for 75% of the time yet unfortunately for the other 25% he just switches of and either gets caught in possession or gives it away
Someone needs to teach him to concentrate

Honestly, how do you get this angry about losing a U21 game?
All whilst being in denial that, despite it being a poorer performance from a Blades' perspective, we quite clearly have a far superior academy (the proof is in the pudding!).

We won the battle, whilst not being at our best. But we are a lightyears ahead in the 'war'.

I just can't understand how you get that angry over a u21 game. He was fuming with the ref all game on that thread. As you say, even if they had won it wouldn't have meant anything. We obviously have a miles better academy.

I'd switch those percentages around. 75% of the time he is woeful, even at U21 level.

Their academy is a disgrace for a team in a big city, they have produced the square route of fuck all for decades.
Their big ‘prospect’ is on loan at Lincoln and hardly pulling up any trees.
Let them look on, green with envy as we continue to produce quality first team players whilst they huddle under their tarpaulin.

Their thread on last night’s game has a list of six of their team who have a future in the game, admittedly suggesting lower league loans to start with.

Our academy has consistently brought good youngsters through, but never half a dozen at a time, which is what they’re hoping for.

Went last night, good turnout from fans. I thought we made hard work of the game, as mentioned already they had a few players like the number 8 who caused us problems. Would imagine it might have been different with a Peck in the middle rather than IC.

My (probably rather unpopular) view on acadamy is, I like to see ALL local clubs develop their own players, rather than just buy in all the time. Obviously we've been spoiled in the past 20 years or so with ours but so what if Owls have some decent players coming through, the more locally produced talent the better as far as I'm concerned.

They do this every year - and every year those players they predict will have a ‘big future’ are released to ply their trade in non-league or League 2 (im being generous here..)- examples include Liam Shaw, Sean Clare, Ciaran Brennan, Jack Stobbs- the list goes on. All the above were ‘tipped for the top’ by the megaminds on Porktalk.
