At Gillingham 17 year old Evan Easton was on the bench ahead of him.
Gomis looked a good prospect a few years ago. Big, strong, quick and went forward from LCB like O'Connell. Looked too strong for his opponents at youth level and impressed with the first team in pre season friendlies. While those attributes aren't completely gone, he's not developed, his loans haven't worked out and he seems more error prone. Hope he'll get his career going at his next club.

Anyone got a list/link who's out on loan and left permanently? Seems like all of em have moved!
The club used to reveal the list of Academy players they have released but I noticed that they haven't been doing that for the past few seasons. Not sure if it is the same for the other clubs. Maybe Ball_Sup (Phil) will know the reasons?

Sorry I can't help. A few years ago, I decided to shift my attention to actually watching and enjoying the games & towns I visited. Rather than get sucked into detail and lists of who is where & why.

Myself and another forum member maintained a comprehensive "roster" list. But I got fed up of - ooohhh Hugo, what a posh name - ooohhh T'shae what a name, sounds like Too Shite - ooohhh why have you listed Drake as a Wing Back, he didn't play there the one time I saw him - comments.

So. I flounced. So sorry, can't help.

Your thoughts on Prince's plan to move our Academy to Category 1.

Expensive but might be worth it?

I mean. Firstly, I'm not sure where and how he's going to do that. Broadly, I think I'm still in favour of - if we can't make Cat 1, then don't worry, Cat 2 is fine, let's do good things, some Cat 1 things even. Most clubs moving to Cat 1 cite the improved quality of the games programme as an important factor.

I am pessimistic. It's so, so difficult to get a (say) 12 year old through the system and into the first team at (say) 19. The numbers just don't stack up. And I'm not sure Cat 1 changes that much for a club like ours. Sure, there's the Slave Trade argument. Where you look to make money by selling youngsters. And Cat 1 changes some of the compensation dynamics. But, I fear Cat 1 is a lot of investment, for little gain.

A Cat 2 Academy, with clear strategies, for instance on recruitment, is not a bad place imho. The kids we remember - N'Diaye, D Brooks, Osula - are often recruited. As opposed to brought through the years, like A Brooks.

Just because you're Cat 2 doesn't mean you can't have a fantastic coaching programme, a fantastic personal development programme, an ethic, fantastic recruitment strategy.

Strive for those anyway. And let the Cat sort itself out.

Cheers. This JTW seems to be the most active with the u21s. Even a few have left permanently.

I would always encourage people to follow the SUFCDevelopment X/Twitter. Not many clubs have a dedicated (all senses of the word) journalist/media guy solely for their Academy sides. The information put out is excellent. They even told me that "following Carrier Bag Firm feedback" they are putting out regular Academy Updates via the main club internet site.

Was you surprised with Josh Smith leaving Phil? Can't comment much but looked a decent little player when I saw him and still 19.

It's a tough old world. I'm not particularly analytical.

There are players I like because of their attitude, the cut of their jib. But, I know, deep down they're not quite good enough for the elite level. I'm always sad when they go.

There are players who are constantly involved, and constantly doing good things, they stand out. So, you hope.

And there are players, the rest, who have good attributes, play for your team, but you can understand when they're released to let the next lad on the rank have a go. I'd put Josh here. So I'm not surprised.

Surprised by Finley Potter going on a permanent though.

I remember when my son was playing for Greenhill u11s, the manager asked me for recommendations of players from Dronfield area. He said that the club keep looking for better players so they release some players now and then. Academies are no different. They usually keep an eye on one or two players per age group, the rest of the squad just make up the numbers (Josh could be one of these that make up the numbers?)

Looking at the twitter updates looks like the defence is allover and Faxon is keeping us in it.

And looks like we only have Marsh playing outfield..

Looks like we’ve won 2-1 now.

Marsh and Okyere.

That means we are 2 ahead of Brum with a better GD of +18.

So a draw does it and the remaining two fixtures are Crewe at home, on Monday, who are bottom of the North division and Colchester away, next weekend, who are bottom of the South division.

It then looks like Millwall v Birmingham and United v QPR in the semis.

We’ve struggled against our Southern counterparts and Millwall beat us last year.

Still, it all augers well for the future.
