1. Was Micky Adams watching?

2. Does this increase pressure on him to include some of these players in the 1st team?

I would like to think the answer is yes to both. thoughts?

None of them look like first team players yet.
Run outs as subs or possibly from the start for Maguire and Harriot when we're down, but nothing more.

Don't know for first one, should hope so!

As for the second, we are doomed and we know it, just waiting for the fat bitch to sing, give a few of em a go I say, we'll need them next year as I doubt we will be signing many players over the summer due to the limited resources available!

Sad isn't it, that in a few weeks, our youth squad have a chance to have a more successful career than much of our first team.

Was thinking the same thing Yossa, the fruits of the Academy final show signs of collective success as the 1st team sink to their lowest level for 20 years.

Non are ready quite yet. Can you imagine Mr Long coming up against big experienced strikers.
So no it dont increase pressure on micky. Those who want them in dont know enough about youth developement.

On the mark Len! As much as i enjyed last nights game and the way the young lads adapted themselves, looking to the future, if we get three of those lads appearing in the 1st team or moved on for a fee, we'll have done exceptionally well! As you say the obvious stand outs are Maguire, Harriott and possibly George Long who looked competent to say the least. Also Ben Montgomery at right back had a bit of something in a Geary like sense, but the rest may well disappear into oblivion like most young apprentice pros.
However, they were a far better team unit than Villa who had a few talented individuals and thoroughly deserved their victory (marred slightly by by our skipper's sending off, a lesson learned in daftness at an early stage for him hopefully?)

I know what you mean, but any success for the Youth team means that it gives our academy an extra pedigree!

We'll be able to sell even more of our star assets!

I asked the MA question last night and someone said he was definately there.

Aye, although Villa lost it wouldn't be a surprise if more of their individuals made it and we didn't have anyone who looked a new Walker or Naughton.
But we did have some players who I think will make it and most impressively we had a system of playing football which they were all comfortable with.
That was the best thing for me and said a lot about Pembo. We ought to build from the bottom up, stamp our own footballing culture on our club from the kids upwards (something I believe they said they would do at the AGM).

Trouble is Len, once they get to play at 1st team level, its a whole new situation in how the game is played and what is needed to achieve success. Nothing like what we witnessed last night unfortunately! We can but lament....

Only way I'd want any of them near the first team atm would be if Morgs was fit to pair with Maguire. They need good role models to play alongised and we don't have many. Can't see any of the other lads benefitting from being put under professional levels of pressure just yet and would prefer them to continue enjoying and developing their games.

To be fair Raul, if some of them are going to make it they're going to have to be in or near the first team shortly.
None of them should play until we're down but I would fully expect Maguire and Harriot to play when it's confirmed.
They're young but if they're closing in on 18 the next step if they are going to progress is the first team.

I imagine McCabe will insist that the likes of Maguire and Harriot are part of the first team squad next season. We're so skint it's surely now the only way forward for United. They will both be far cheaper options than loans or signing established players - even established lower league players.

Having said that, having watched them last night, they both deserve their chance on merit anyway. Both look to have the potential to at least play league one and relegation could even help their careers as they'll get more chance of first team football and to learn their trade.

Very good team performance last night looks like we are still producing decent defensive players. Icing on the cake would be to produce an attacking player with pace and flair which I thought we lacked last night, though I haven't seen Slew play.

I think the only way you put an U-18 in is if he's head and shoulders above eveything else in his league - a la the Kyles - and has nothing more to learn from the environment he's in. If I'm making a judgement based on only seeing them the once, I'd say none of them, as good as they played, can truly be said to be so.

I woudn't want them in the first team and on the scrapheap a year later if they've been promoted ahead of their years. Get them nearer the finished product, and they'll have more chance of a good career. If they absolutely have to play because there's no-one else, then that's a different story, but I'd be wanting to keep them away from a relegated team's mentality and bring them in when we're on the front foot, not the back.

It's great that the young lads will be playing Chelsea or Man U in the final as this will give them (Man U and Chelsea) an excellent idea of which of our young talent is ready to pluck from us.;)

I hope us Blades are not gretting misty eyed about any of these talents developing into first team utd players - it won't happen... If they are good they will be gone a la Walker, Naughton, Mellis etc

McCabe must be licking his lips at the prospect of another bumper £10m payday, when this youth team gets broken up and sold en masse.

Aye but Raul we are talking about the two players that do stand out in the team that's got to the final of the Youth Cup.
In terms of their peer group, there's nowt else for them to do.
And if you're waiting until we're on the front foot, you could be waiting a heck of a long time. In some respects with all players it's ultimately sink or swim.
They both look to have the ability and composure to play once we're down.

What you say is undoubtedly true for our ragamuffin, upanatem, gerritintbox 'style' of play. It ain't true of the vast majority of clubs that play the game properly!

We  Hoofing.

Some well meaning advice to our sensational youth team from a concerned fan.

Enjoy the final, thanks very much but you need to get out of SUFC as soon as possible. Get away from Alehouse, Bassett and Corky to have any chance of a career in football.

Unfortunately a significant number of our fans enjoy watching Monty and even have opinions that Doyle is somehow worth persevering with.

Your future lies away from our shambolic club. Sign for Chesterfield or someone like that if you are any good.

He was watching though I'd prefer he wasn't. The footballing philosophy instilled in these lads by the admirable Pemberton is totally alien to Quickfix Micky and his Hoofing coaches.

The only pressure on Adams ought to be how quickly he can clear his office at the end of the season to make way for football.

Ahh the footballing guru fails to give his blessing to Micky watching the Youth team.

I really enjoyed last night. No nasty atmosphere/drunks, people actually enjoying a game of football rather than moaning - even sympathetic applause when their keeper was sent off. I liked Pembo's approach - he was in constant touch with the players with support and advice. We looked like a team! Very strong at the back and composed in midifield - more of that please.

You are no fan if you feel the need to post that advice

I thought that in previous seasons, the final (two legs) had been televised on Sky.

Can anyone confirm whether this years is to be shown on the box?

But the vast majority of clubs don't play your version of 'properly' Pinchy, thats my point. If you really look at it dispassionately, the clubs who achieve success (top of prem apart), the formula is pretty much the same. The similarities between QPR and our recent promotion side of 2006 are quite apparent to the discerning eye, but when NW was our boss, people of your opinion were labellling us long ball!
