...are the return of the Paul “Pirlo” Coutts and the reformation of the Holy Trinity in midfield.

Plus the return of David Brooks, free from Glandular Fever, and back to Bouncing Day Massacre / Leeds away form.

You’d have to spend north of £10m to get two players of that quality in. It bodes well for next season.

You also forget the comeback kid. Two appearances and it just showed what we missed all season. Delivery and goals from other players.

I suspect those expecting Coutts to return at the same levels of fitness and quality as prior to his injury may be in for a shock. Whilst admittedly playing at a much lower level and far less fit, it took me the best part of a season to get back to anything like before I suffered an almost identical injury.

Last time Paul Coutts incurred an injury of that severity, he was anonymous for 18 months after he returned. Don't expect his return to bring about a sudden magical transformation, we need signings and strong ones.
He did, in all fairness come back into a side managed by a Nigel (does it matter which one?). Messi would have looked subdued.

Hopefully we'll have the new manager 'bounce' too.
Just hope we get lucky on the wank-manager-go-round.

His previous injury was quite a bit more complicated than a leg break.

It still involves a long recovery/rehabilitation period though.

I'm struggling to think of anyone who immediately returned to form from a leg break other than Henrik Larsson, who had a titanium rod inserted to speed up his recovery.

I'd be delighted to be proven wrong but if Coutts is pushing for a regular starting place this side of Xmas he'll be doing incredibly well.

Presumably you had a full rehabilitation team, top medical treatment, physios, dieticians, etc to keep things moving apace? ;)

I admire the OP’s positivity but Coutts could take an age to get back anywhere near his best and Brooks, I think, will be sold.

You could argue it'll be 3 new signings with Freeman.

As well as Baldock has done this year, Freeman is simply a better player with much greater output in the final third and boy we've missed that this season.

Another season of Baldock and Basham fancying around in the corner would drive me potty...

I know what you mean. I think both lads have done well for us tbh but it’s like the Chuckle brothers at times with them two on the flank. “ To me, To you”.

Gerra proper winger in! It’s alright maximising your wing half and full backs, getting them overlapping and “overloading” as Chris callls it. But a proper pacy winger would do far more damage. We really need one (or two) but from where?

To be honest I think it's as much a confidence thing as anything else. Stevens is the same on the other flank.

If you watch Freeman, or O'Connell for that matter, when they get close to the box they power in with purpose. Stevens/Baldock either fanny around or hit a pointless cross into the box. Baldock did get better as the season went but he's still light years behind Freeman.

Dunno bout that Mr Templar.

Freeman’s final ball was frequently poor, but Freeman had a more instinctive ability to put the ball in the net.

But Baldock is a more creative threat.

However, Freeman also has a better beard than Baldock, who I suspect is troubled by alopecia areata.

If im honest, I just want Freeman to get back to form and get picked for Wales so we have x3 Welsh players compared to Cardiff who have zero. It really does piss off my Cardiff supporting mate!!

To be fair the OP is correct. 2 of our players back to full fitness will be a huge bonus.

I know sometimes they say players may not come back the same. To be fair Coutts wasn’t a fan favourite for his running.

Brooks being sold? You may well be right.

I think Chris was hoping that planning application was going to be refused.

We need some Pace in the squad, especially up top.

A midfielder who can score goals 8-10 goals a season would be handy

Also need a decent LWB / Left full back. (Unless we sign another left sided Centre back and move JOC wider)
Or perhaps a RWB who can get into double figures on the goals front;) and supply a cross as well as being able to pick up the second loose ball as it is cleared.

I didn’t realise we’d applied for planning permission to turn Brooks into a man. If it gets granted he’ll be invincible!
