Seems like we’ve taken the opportunity to trim some deadwood from the squad this transfer window. Which might be a risky strategy given Covid but was probably needed given the massively unbalanced nature of the side.

Ultimately we’ll have see how it goes but I reckon getting the likes of Burke, moose, verrips, Olsen, Freeman (might be off to Luton) would be about 50k a week off the wage bill. Not insignificant for the rest of the season especially when combined with any load fees.

Interesting to see if Goode (if he signs) in the only one we are interested in today - still feel we are light in midfield.

But I’d say one of the priorities of the window has been partially completed

If we got rid of McBurnie today, irrespective of whether we brought in a replacement, then I'd be happy. Yes in would leave us short up front, but he's contributed nothing for nearly two seasons. If he stays we get nothing from him. If he goes then there's nothing to miss.

Jebbo will get the chances and hopefully, unlike our front line, he'll actually take them and put them away.

It will have been an excellent window in that respect, especially if Freeman also goes.

It was a bloated, expensive squad and even though the transfer fees paid won't be recouped, getting these highly salaries off the wage bill for the remainder of the season will be good progress and hopefully allow PH more room to manoeuvre for his summer reshaping exercise.

50k a week? I would think it would be nearer double that....it's a start though pal.

You might be right tbf. Was airing on the side of caution.

But be well over a million saved in wages alone I’d have thought

I still think McB can be a player for us and if we unload him we would be very short up front with Brewster out for may 6 weeks. Cant expect Jebbo to step in and score us 15 goals. Look how long it took DCL to make an impact at Everton. At least 2 seasons of playing every week.

Verrips + Olsen was apparently £50k a week, so probably pushing £100k a week which is handy when you've not got a pot to piss in 😂

Fuckin hell. Just think about that for a moment. £50k a week on Olsen piss flap arms, and stay on mi line Verrips. Just.... just.... sheer unadulterated Fuckin hell.

I'd wager Olsen was costing us around that alone.

I'd guess Burke, Mousset and Freeman will be on at least 50k between them. Verrips 10k+ and Slater probably a few grand.

The amount of people who seemingly despise McBurnie is incredible.

We've got a LOT of games coming up and need to utilise the squad. McBurnie will play his part, i'm sure.

couldnt agree more just dont see what pro- mcburnie see in him offers us nothing imo apart from wasting 20k a week

I think 'despise' is a bit strong. I just don't like the fact that his drinking and banter output seems to be massively in excess of his footballing output for at least the last 18 months.

He looks like someone who is running a contract down to me, not busting his balls to become a first team player.

No doubt. The problem is that since Brighton away in 2019/20 McBurnie has done very little to endear himself to the supporters. Multiple Covid absences, altercations on the street (provoked or not), one league goal in over 18 months, a lackadaisical style which means he looks like he's putting next to no effort in, a terrible style of play when he's on the pitch...none of it is good news.

Oli McBurnie has 18 months left on his United contract. He needs to put that to good effect or his next move will be Rotherham or Bradford. He's got a real opportunity now Mousset and Brewster are out of the picture for the foreseeable future.

It's time for him to prove it now.

The club have stuck by him while:
  • his early promise of 6 the first season got diluted to 7 in 70 odd appearances.
  • then:

- then:

My point being he owes this club massively. To have not hung him out to dry for the first two and tolerated whatever personal choices he's made, leading to 3 spates of absences when we've needed all the help we can get, he owes us big time.

If there's any ounce of that player who scored 20+ goals for Swansea he needs to be busting a gut to show it.

For the limited minutes Mousset was able to provide, at least be bought us 2 wins which is more than his felow striker has managed so far.

Time to step up Oli McBurnie. Your club needs you and you owe them.

Totally agreed, he has got to be looking like Scotland's best EFL striker and getting some form. Not too worried about goals if he was match fit in the squad and creating chances for others
