Trigger Warning - Play-Offs

It was the Wolves game for me - 3-0 down and shell shocked. We'd had so many good results in big games that season that I actually went into the game feeling confident for once. Even when we got the penalty I thought the comeback could be on (with the the Forest game still fresh in my mind). When Browny missed the penalty it was an absolute sickener and I've not felt confident going into a big game since.
I had to check the posters name twice, I thought I must've written this and forgot about it, this is exactly how I felt,

Brentford have been as unlucky/bad as us in play off finals and last season they went up. Why not the Blades this time? I will apply for a ticket and try and go with an expectation of a Blades win on the hallowed turf.

If we do get to the play-offs, I actually don't fear the prospect of facing Wilder's Boro in that situation. I can see how people think of it being sod's law that our old manager would succeed at our expense, but I genuinely think we could beat them again. Perhaps Boro had an off night that night, but that was probably the best and most complete United performance since Wilder was our manager. I appreciate anything can happen in these games, but after the performance against them a few weeks ago, I think their players might have that in the back of their minds, and might fear playing us a bit more.

I would be more concerned about the prospect of playing a Coventry or a Forest to be honest. Both teams who have the style to keep us on the back foot for large parts of the game, and the attackers to get in behind and seriously unsettle our backline. Wouldn't want to play Millwall again either because they have become our bogey team in recent times.

what are you on about

We won 2 promotions in the previous 4 seasons
we attacked the prem with gusto in the first season

let's just ignore that eh
we last lost a play off final a decade ago

you can only win things as Liverpool do and Chelsea. and man city when you spend a billion.pounds on a squad

We are like 80 per cent of EFL clubs
living from hand to mouth

We must play in a play off final to win or lose it

That's an achievement in.itself

considering in October our can do fans had us down in division one and that was down to club mentality ....but it was not a dont try attitude thats put us in 5th spot
I certainly admire your optimism!

In 1997 we smashed Palace 3-0 at the Lane a few weeks previously.

Well before my time that one, I was 6!

In 2008/09 Burnley did the double over us in the league, I seem to recall they beat us 1-0 at Turf Moor on a Monday night a few weeks before the P/O final. The P/O final was just a repeat of that league game, both performance and scoreline. I think that defeat was a lot more nailed on - we just couldn't deal with Burnley that season. Although it probably wasn't helped we had a striker shortage with Darius Henderson out, Blackwell wanted to lump it long to 5 foot 3 Jamie Ward, and Greg Halford then had to play up front I recall. Craig Beattie didn't do a lot.

Anything can happen on any given day. But I think Forest are one of the best teams we've played at home this season, and although we haven't lost to them, I felt they dominated us and we were fortunate to get a point. Millwall are just awkward wherever you play them, and Coventry completely dominated us. I would view those three teams like Burnley in 2008/09, in terms of I'm not sure we can deal with them. The other teams, of course they have their threats, but I would feel slightly more positive about our chances and I don't look too much into the Wilder factor. I suspect in PH we have a sensible manager who's quite cool with the psychology of managing that situation. If we were to get there of course.
