Thought I would have a look at the number of players we have signed / got rid of since the prince came in, considering we never sign anyone etc. (The ones in red were signed pre-prince) - The prices can be ignored obviously as it appears they dont have the info but jesus we have signed alot of shit......

Christ that's a lot of crap.

And who the fuck is Jake Phillips?

I think it would be fair to remove the red line. If the Prince wasn't involved in the business throughout that summer I'd be very surprised. If I recall correctly, the deal was announced just after the transfer window closed - I always assumed that this was to ensure that any transfer fees weren't inflated.

All in all, chuck in the managerial and backroom staff turnover and it hardly screams 'stability' does it?

Danny Coyne?
Aaron Barry?

Far, far too many 'young prospect', 'one for the future' types on that list. Just reads like Clough signed a mixture of players who would hopefully be brilliant in two or three years and others who were second or third choice on the list (Higdon, McEveley). That man banged on and on about wanting promotion whilst playing a brand of football which could send a cokehead to sleep, with a side of bang average players.

That fucking January last year. Yes, I'm happy with Coutts, Done and the Beard now, but how the fuck could you not replace Harry Maguire in that period? What was he thinking?

I don't think Clough signed Coyne or Barry.

I know, fella. I was questioning who on earth they were. Perhaps I should have separated that from the rest of the post.
Barry was highly rated when we signed him. I think we picked him up from a little Irish club we had links with for a while. Not sure what happened with that.

Christ that list is seriously depressing, that turnover of players and we are still stagnating. Whatever cash the managers have had it hasn't been used wisely.

Goes a long way to explaining the mess we are in and there's maybe another 15 to shift out in the summer.

The scouting and transfers over the last 18-24 months. Abysmal.

I bet Burton and Walsall have signed less than a dozen players over the last 2-3 seasons!

Don't the ins & the outs amount to pretty much the same? And doesn't that mean we've been burdened with the legendary "vast squad" for three seasons now?

Ahh, that may appear to be the case but it disperses one of the main Twatteratti claims that it was all Clough's fault. Whatever, and how many pieces of, shite we have now is nowhere near as bad as the squad Weir left (not that he brought them all in but they were still here) in the likes of Westlake, Hill, Williams, Johns, McGinty. McGinn etc.

Diabolical recruitment. No other word for it.

Total scattergun approach by everyone involved.

Ever worked for a company that keeps changing managers. I have. It's a nightmare, one comes in, says everything's wrong, changes it, next one comes in, does the same. No one knows what the fuck they're supposed to be doing. All the staff look for new jobs. Half leave. Another manager comes in to address the slide. Half of those who stayed don't like him, some of those who were recruited by the former manager don't like him and now they don't like the big bosses either because they sacked their mate.
It goes on like that until some large company takes them over or they go bust.
That's basically where we are.

Yes, the worst thing is we have no logical approach when sacking managers. We don't think about what's coming next.
Think back, even before the Prince came in, the management decisions and their style of play.

Warnock - hoof and crosses into the box, high tempo.
Robson - slow tepid football on the floor
Blackwell - high tempo hoof (granted this one actually worked! for a while)
Speed - slow football on the floor
Adams - hoof. not much else.
Wilson - largely football on the floor but more boring hoof in the second season.
Weir - total football on the deck
Clough - defensive minded counter-attacking football
Adkins - so far hasn't nailed down a 'style' but prefers it on the deck.

Compare that to Swansea who have achieved what we want to achieve, promotion to the prem. Every manager they've had players football. Southampton the same. Watford, even though they're crazy with the sackings are the same. Everyone buys into the same methology, we don't think about that. Adkins needs a whole new team to even stand a chance, and then it seems like we're back at square one again if it doesnt work.

Transfers in/out show that the board do back the managers.

The manager list proves the board couldn't pick their own noses.
