Despite all this Bruce's 'reputation' seems to remain intact. Some of those wages are astonishing for a second tier club even taking into account the parachute payments !

Might all be media bollocks but thought this little section of a report on Birmingham live was very interesting....

Mirror Sport
understands Mile Jedinak still has one-year left on his £50,000-a-week deal after joining from Premier League Crystal Palace.

Midfielder Henri Lansbury is on £40,000-a-week and has three years left. Striker Ross McCormack earns £40,000-a-week and has two years left.

Ivory Coast international Jonathan Kodjia is on £35,000-a-week with two years left. James Chester is on £30,000-a-week and has two years left.

While even rookie full-back James Bree, 20, signed in January 2017 from Barnsley, is on £23,000-a-week, with three years left.

Villa reportedly owe up to £11m in fees for transfer signings.

A report in the Times states that the club still have outstanding payments to make for players like Ross McCormack, James Chester and Scott Hogan.

As the extent of Villa's financial problems deepens, the Times states that that under the football creditors' rule, these clubs are entitled to be paid before HM Revenue and Customs, who Villa have to pay an outstanding tax bill.

Money is reportedly still owed to Fulham (£6m), West Brom (£2m) and Fulham (£3m) respectively.

Fuck. And if you weren't grateful for Wilder's cautious approach before, you are now.

That's just the tip of the iceberg too when you consider players like Glenn Whelan and Micah Richards on 40k plus.

Bonkers.

There wage bill will be well over £50m a year. Adding to the players already mentioned they've been paying Snodgrass, Terry, Hutton, Agbonlahor, Elmohamady, Adomah, Grabban, Whelan, Samba and Taylor, who will all be on over £30,000 a week. They've still on Micah Richards who will be earning a similar amount.

A blades fan for over 55 years, here a bit more information, wilder turn down the jobs at Stoke, Leeds, Sunderland and West Brom.

Actually turned down offers (so attended interviews) or simply rejected potential interest to sound him out?

I know it's bitter but Id really like to see Wednesday end up in "villa type" financial trouble.
I feel a bit for Villa, their club is that big they were damned if they did and damned if they didn't in terms of spending big. Their fans almost demanded they spent like that. The pigs just seem to throw money at problems, is live to see it come back and bit them in the arse.

For the accounts side of things Villa need to recoup money and fast. If they still owe money on players such as Hogan we could maybe make there final instalments of the payment to help with FFP.

But in essence they need as much money and wages gone. There negotiatiing power is at zero. Couple of million and a majority of his wages may make him move. He’s third choice there at least and he knows he isn’t getting paid up any time soon!

Both would be excellent players. If we can now shop in this market year on year we will be a force to be reckoned with.

Staggering that, and James Bree £23,000 is unbelievable.

He was probably on £5,000 a week at Barnsley. Why offer him that much of an increase? Its not like he was going to turn down £15,000 a week. Suppose to be successful businessmen running these clubs. The new Sunderland manager has gone from £50,000 a year to £350,000 a year. Did they really need to offer that much of an increase to get him? There needs to be some incentive based pay in football.

Paying James Bree that amount is indicative of a reckless club who don't know what the sensible limits are. A typical Steve Bruce club. As if they had to offer him that much, he was a young lad coming from Barnsley FFS. They were obviously still in 'big Premier League club mode' and paid a player far more than necessary just for the sake of it.

It's like some kid has entered a cheat code on FIFA and gone on a mad one.

There needs to be some repercussions for people who do this kind of damage to football clubs. Dr. Xia will probably fuck off back to China and sulk a bit whilst Villa fans deal with the damage.

Can't see what the fuss is about Hogan; functional (average) Championship striker brings nothing new to the team except youth (26) not worth the investment given wages alone.

Scored 21 in 30 odd games for Brentford only two seasons ago...

Totally agree.... but this is where agents flourish and get their teeth into players and managers. Every agent of players looking to go to Villa will have just added an extra £5-£10k pw, to try their luck, then skipped to the bank absolutely pissing themselves with their big % fee, whilst sticking two fingers up at Villa for being stupid enough to accept!

Hogan would be a case of signing a player who has underperformed and has a point to prove, but the only risk with him would be his knee. He was out for over a year with an ACL injury. There's no doubting his quality and as long as he avoided injury he'd be an outstanding player for us.

Bree's agent will have known that Villa's players were on ridiculous salaries. If you earned £15k per year were joining a firm paying its staff an average of £100k per year would you accept £20k? Of course you wouldn't, you'd want to be closer to the existing salaries. Villa have made a rod for their own back.

Strewth, another defender to go with all the others we have and Scott scored 5 in 34 appearances at Villa which is hardly great and their fans want to get rid. We need strikers or players who can shoot on the way up, not ones who've had a decent recent run and done little.

Who, realistically, would you prefer Utd to sign?

That’s what’s annoying about Villa. People on this forum can work or basic finances. Aston Villa must have some decent accountants in Birmingham saying this could go wrong here.

Much as I would like to see us sign Scott Hogan I really doubt we can afford his fee or wages.

We’re not shopping in that store yet.

With the amount of shit villa are in. I think a half eaten pack of after eights would be enough lol. In all seriousness, I'm sure a deal could be struck.
