Just put the kids new team posters up. As I took last years down I counted the number of players still at the club 12 months later...12 out of 24...and of that 12 Blackwell is trying to get rid of 2 (Sharp and Hendrie) and 2 can't play (Paddy and Speed). So that really leaves 8 players out of 24!!!

What is going on at the club? we signed Bromby a couple of months ago and now we're selling him (almost certainly for less than we payed as leeds have no money). We are now desperately short of cover at the back and if we get injuries or Killa goes then we are really up sh1t street. I know there are a few days left before the window closes but past experience tells me not hold my breath!!

i agree entirely.. we will be down to three proven? centre forwards and four defenders.. one goalkeeper , eight wingers and twenty 'holding' midfielders.. hopefully kev has some kind of masterplan

Re-profiling

According to Soccerbase (which I admit doesn't include signing on fees and wages and also may not be 100% accurate) we sold him to Watford for £600k, then got him back for nothing, so any money at all from Leeds is a bonus (although obviously we lose the player).

This is from Blackwell's mutterings on the official site.

As Monday's transfer deadline approaches United are hopeful that their major players will not be targeted by Premiership clubs hopeful of luring them to the top flight. .......... "When the deadline comes close there is always a worry because I think back to last year when we got a call at 10.30pm on deadline eve about Stoke's bid for Michael Tonge, and within half an hour he had gone," said Blackwell ............. "I wish the deadline would go away because I am well aware that there is always a danger that it could happen again."

I just don't understand this comment at all - if we have finished our dealings then switch the mobile off take the missus to Scarborough and have a paddle, if we are still looking to deal buy a new mobile on Saturday and use that. I've been on the end of 1001 different inventive delaying tactics is the club really that uncreative that he can't stall if he wants to?

It just goes to show that at the end of the day, the manager sometimes has little or no say in a deal going through.

Maybe this is Blacky's way of paving the way for Tonge's return?

I REALLY hope not!

I'd take Tonge back, decent centre mid at this level for me. More effective than Howard or Hendrie.

I'd rather have one of the youngsters from Spurs on loan, than take Tonge back.
He blew hot and cold too often with us, and hasn't been able to force himself the Stoke team.

Sonko from Stoke is a different matter though. Excellent centre half, who chips in with a few goals.
Rotting in the Stoke reserves. We should make a move for him.

Talking of the Spurs loaning, whatever happened to that?
Will he play in the friendly against Leeds?

What's your point NN6?

We are a team in transition. What kind of a manger takes over a team and doesn't ring changes??

Blackwell clearly wasn't happy with the team he had when he took over. He couldn't do anything about at the time apart from do his best with them. Slowly over the 18 months he's been in charge he's stamped his authority on the squad, keeping the players he wants and bringing in the players he wants.

What is difficult to comprehend about that???

Leeds have loads of money since they welched on their debt. Didn't they make £6 Million last season alone? They also have the Delph money to spend.

Finally yes we have apparently sold him for more than we bought him for, both times infact.

Allesendro, can you read? if so you must be thick if you can't understand what my point is!!!

Your point is a nothing point. That is what I am stating.

So a new manger comes in and makes some changes. Wow! What is happening to Sheffield United!? Blackwell shifts a load of big money earners from the Premiership/Robson era. Wow what a shocker. He gets rid of the players he doesn't like and brings in his own. My oh my, Bramall Lane is falling down.

Pathetic post NN6. Barely worth repsonding to.

And try spelling someones user name properly before you imply that they are thick!?!

'pathetic post barely worth responding to'...but you did didn't you? get your facts right 'a new manager comes in and makes some changes' he wasn't a new manager, he'd been in charge for 6 months and that squad picture already had numerous players in that he had brought in over the summer that have since left!

my point is... just to spell it out as you seem to have difficulty understanding it...that the turnover of players at Bramall Lane seems to be very high and that there seems to be no clear transfer policy, players come and go on a weekly basis. the latest example with Bromby caps it all, signed in the summer, sold in August, in a position that we now have virtually no cover in. what happens if Killa goes or when Killa or Morgs get injured/suspended which will happen sooner rather than later?

Barely worth responding to. Yes, unfortunately I chose to as now i am going to get into a pointless argument.

Who are all these signings that Blackwell has made and sold???

To answer your question. If the siutation remains as it is and Killa goes or either him or Morgs get suspened then we are up the shit creek. However, there are 4 days until the end of the transer window (and loan players available after that) and i'm pretty sure Blackwell has something up his sleeve.

Why can't you wait until Tuesday before you make a judgement. Bromby was not up to it and all Blades know that. If we bring someone else in who cares.

When did Blackwell ever have anything up his sleeve?
We all know that despite being linked to this player, that player we will not sign anyone - My bet is that Sharp plus one other will leave before the deadline leaving us desperately short in case of injuries and Blackwell will be bleating on about the economics of football. :(

Oi What's going on? Where's that come from?

It often surprises me too, when looking at the previous year's team photo, how many changes we make during a season. Building a younger squad would help, and we must avoid expensive signings who are not good or fit enough to make the team.

Looking at the current squad, how many will be here in a year?

2 Ryan France (M) - squad player, may stick around for this and next
3 Gary Naysmith (D) - getting older, expect him to leave in the summer
4 Nick Montgomery (M) - staying
5 Chris Morgan (D) - staying
6 Matt Kilgallon (D) - leaving, unless he signs a new deal
7 Darius Henderson (F) - staying
9 Ched Evans (F) - staying
10 Kyel Reid (M) - staying, unless he remains on the bench
11 David Cotterill (F) - hard to say, does KB really rate him?
12 Lee Williamson (M) - staying
13 Ian Bennett (G) - leaving.
14 David Carney (M) - already gone.
16 Andy Taylor (D) - staying, but expect him to become our back up LB
17 Lee Hendrie (M) - leaving
18 Jamie Ward (M) - staying
20 Brian Howard (M) - leaving, an expensive mistake
21 Leigh Bromby (D) - leaving
22 Justin Haber (G) - leaving
24 Billy Sharp (F) - leaving
25 Glen Little (M) - leaving, only one year contract
28 Stephen Quinn (M) - staying
Jordan Robertson (F) - leaving
Paddy Kenny (G) - who knows?

I haven't included the loan players, as they're not really ours even now.

So I predict these are still here in 12 months:

France, Monty, Morgan, Henderson, Evans, Reid, Williamson, Taylor, Ward, Quinn. (10 players)

Leaving:
Naysmith, Killgallon, Cotts, Bennett, Carney, Hendrie, Howard, Haber, Sharp, Little, Robertson. (11 players)

???:
Kenny

-----------------------------------

I've seen Blackwell focusing on the need for experienced signings, but let's try also to keep looking for younger players who can offer us something long term.

I will only really miss Killa and Cotts of the players I think may leave, the rest of the outgoings should enable us to build for the future. UNLESS we fill the squad up with SIMILAR signigns - aging, injury prone, not good enough or "Blades family" players.

Bergen, I agree entirely with your last point, as will many Blades, why sign these 30+ yr old ex premier players who've already made their fortune (Hendrie, Naysmith, Ugo, Speed)? They are seeing out their playing days and are/were all on massive salaries and contributed no more, and often less, than a young hungry lower league player. This lad Tracey looks like the sort we should be signing and Ched Evans also fits into that category, as does the new left back Taylor....however this is what makes it particularly disappointing that we sold the 2 Kyles. Both developed internally, both young, strong and quick with limitless potential. They were they type of player we should have been building the club around but they've gone. I know money talks but it grates that we sold those 2 lads partly as we have to continue paying the likes of Naysmith and Hendire their five figure a week salaries!!

Some thing is rotten either in the board room or dressing room with the odd transfer policies we loan players who impress then don’t sign them.
We finish high in the league due mainly to a strong defence then over the summer dismantle it and prop it up with a stick.
We sign players and don’t play them in the starting line up.
We sign lots of wingers then play our fastest striker as a winger

this is why I don’t like Blackwell

Who do we include in this? I'm sure everyone at the club would have liked to have signed Halford, but he went to the prem.

We can only play 11 men, and currently they aren't doing too badly!

Wardy has played on the wing before, so far, he's scoring goals and creating goals! Seems to be working in that position to me.

ok so what did we bother with all the wingers for then we could have used that to buy a midfielder of center back?

its easy to be pedantic and pick holes in posts isnt it

We needed genuine wingers are more pace, we also need options for when things aren't working or we get injuries.

Hopefully we'll be bringing in at least another midfielder and center back as well. If not, would be interesting to see if Harry Maguire gets near the first team squad, he's impressed so far this year.

I'm not being pedantic or picking holes :), just asking questions about your opinion, interested to see which loanee's people would have signed :)

It's even easier to pick holes in a football club :D
