You claimed he was going to be the second coming, playing regular Premiership and international football, certainly more than Bartley.
You doing another Wardy on us Len?

I tell you what you whisper in a 18 year olds ear than he can earn nearly 10 times he wages playing for Spurs or stay at United and he ain't going to stay. Especially when he is coming back to his team for a season long loan.

But hey you have all the answers don't you Len?

Oh how we recall your comical criticisms of Walker last season. All those goals, all those mistakes.
Here's the thing though. I thought it was brilliant we were bringing young players though, quality young players, players we could really relate to.
You, for some strange reason, seemed to resent we had actually brought through genuine quality.
Part of the reason so many fans have walked is what happened with those transfers. You rip out the soul of the club, the fans know it. Lowton doesn't look a patch on either but if he is, he'll also be gone in seconds. Nothing matters but a quick buck because we're so badly managed.
Just leads to fans thinking their own bucks are better off spent elsewhere.
You'll probably be desperately hoping Bartley plays more games than Walker this season. Who cares? Neither will be a United player next season.
As for Wardy, it's getting a bit tiresome laddie. Good sensible transfer, as was said at the time.
Just a pity that was the last time we look for potential lower down the leagues - other than poor old Tayls.

You been promoted to everyones mouthpiece now Len? I criticised him fairly and backed up my opinions what you said about Bartley was neither.
I don't believe I every said Walker lacked talent or was useless or anything similar. I said he needed to learn from his mistakes which he wasn't.

Really can you provide any evidence of that I resent our young players?
Whereas you wanted the academy disbanded as it was a waste of money. You doing some more dancin' Lenner, is the old hip upto it?

Nah Len you are the one who hopes players don't do well in order to prove you are always right.
I still think that Bartley will play more regularly at the top level and has more chance of regular international caps than Walker.
Remind us again Len what you said about Bartley?

There it is.... the laddie, sonny comment. Am I getting to you?
Len if you can't take it you shouldn't of said it and I ain't the only one who read you post.

Im saying Bob, that is one tactic a club does use in order to force a transfer that is beneficial to the club. Are you saying we are not a selling club?
Are you saying the Kyles were told they wouldn't be considered for selection?

If you are I believe someone is spinning you a line.

No I'm not I don't believe there is a club in this country that isn't a selling club, and certainly every club in the Championship would sell any of their players should the right deal be offered.

But I am saying the club didn't force the Kyles out and that both the Kyles wanted to go.

Yes Bob, the Ward comment is tiresome. I couldn't give a flying what anyone thinks about my opinions and I'm happy to defend them but I draw the line at someone saying I said something else entirely.
As for Walker, it was bizarre that you wanted to criticise our best player and suggested he was close to being dropped.
His mistakes were obviously so traumatic that Spurs couldn't possibly have conceived of wanting him back in January.
Jeez, when you've seen what we've had since, it's beyond comical.
As for the academy - who really cares now? The only two players of genuine talent have gone after one season and we're £50m in debt. What's it really matter? That, again, is the kind of thing that makes long-standing fans walk away.
I hope Bartley does well this season. He's played better so far but he hasn't really been tested other than when Parkin came on and upset him straightaway.
But ultimately, who cares? He's an Arsenal player, using us to get experience to potentially play for Arsenal.
You think and evidently hope Bartley turns out to be a better player than Walker.
I hope someone we brought through our ranks, from Sheffield, turns out to be the better player, however dumbly we transferred him.
That makes a lot more sense to me and I'd imagine 99% of our fans.

Len 3 - 0 Bob.

Ten minutes to go, game petering out, very solid victory.

Getting back to the reason of this thread, I think I am actually going to be gutted if nothing comes off in the next 30 minutes. They should have backed Speed just with a couple of players to allow him to do what is needed

There isn't anything to say that because it's 6pm and we haven't heard anything that nothing's happened, is there? Don't clubs have to file paperwork?

Yep, deals regularly get announced well after the deadline passes... but still...

its not been announced we havent made a signing/signings. there's plenty of passion from the 18000 that went on saturday. fuck the non-renewers, their loss. were not on our own with lack of investment, but id rather do it the right way than be like cardiff or pompey (fa cup final last year) now bottom of english 2nd division, no thanks! mccabe aint leaving till someone coughs up some serious cash.

get a grip.

I don't know what you expect from the club! We have to look at the positives like we haven't sold any of our star players, like, erm...

Anyway, would've been another transfer window of disappointment if it wasn't the norm and as expected.

Who was the underwelming dead cert signing that we didn't sign anyway Flatulent Bob?

Things must be bad if McCabe cant find owt to flog on Deadline Day ..........

It was a countdown like no other.

5.....4....3...2..1...................................................................................................erm, what happened?

Things must be bad if McCabe cant find owt to flog on Deadline Day ..........

I'm sure he's been trying to flog plenty of riverside apartments in Richmond - perfect for the young unemployed professional.

Time was whenever anyone offered up such an off-message opinion he or she would be overwhelmed with responses along the lines of "Mr McCabe, you are the best thing that's ever happened to this club...."

I cannot consciously recall seeing this phrase for at least six months now. Genuine question with no agenda to anyone who has ever uttered it ; why do you no longer do so?

It started turning sour as soon as he signed Robson

Firstly, most have never said that. I'm sure 'best in my lifetime' has been mentioned, but then the same was also said of Warnock.

I look at where we were before McCabe came in, and where we are now, and see a completely different club. I'll admit, in some ways, I wish the club weren't so impersonal, but times change. The opposite view is 'plus ça change ....'

In my lifetime, we have had a chairman about whom I wrote a bedtime story (search if you can be bothered) who nearly crippled the club, a couple of chairmen who were fans but either were bankrupt or wanted by Interpol, an Iraqi who nearly took over as all his/her assets were about to be frozen due to a high profile war )not to mention the laughing stock we'd have ended up as being (however unjustly), a property developer who gambled the lot (but did build a stand), and a mélange of the above before McCabe took over and gave anything like a stable footing. We missed out on staying in the top flight which is so coveted by one goal, and McCabe's only mistake really was the ludicrous appointment of Sornob.

It can be argued that things don't look rosy (not convinced that view is altogether wrong), and there are several similarities to various points in our relatively recent past, but compare now to how we were in 1981/85/87/95 to now, and decide what you'd prefer.

in football terms HH we're pretty much the same a 'mid table' Division 2 team.

Which is fair enough, and we can prove any point with glib comments such as that one. But it doesn't actually tell the whole story does it?

McCabe isn't perfect; however, I actually used to think he was quite close to the perfect chairman. Since we came back down, he's dropped some big ol' bollocks it's got to be said - two very poor managerial appointments being the main culprit.

I actually think that in a sense, one of the worst things he did for his own reputation was bringing in Beattie. Despite the parachute payments, we just couldn't afford him and so when the inevitable came and we had to let him go, the natives got restless and he stuttered his way through an awful interview on Radio Sheffield.

Personally, I think due to the complexities of the accounts, we can't really comment on our debt at this moment in time. Likewise, while it would seem that the 'Blades Family' has been a massive misstep, it may bear fruit in the future; whether that be through a player or through making us more attractive for investment.

Sadly, due to the free tickets, the low ticket prices, large transfer fees and large wages; we're back to playing catchup. Whereas with previous chairman we didn't know how to do this, at least with this one we have a solid plan in place, even if it does mean that we're consistently disappointing in the transfer market.
