Trams suspended on Sunday?

The Star, apparently, is reporting that trams between 10am and 12 noon, normal service from 12 noon until 1pm and then from 1pm until 3pm terminates at Shalesmoor. Pathetic or common sense?

Pathetic, Manchester does not suspend the metro on derby day.

They have not run the tram to Hillsborough when Leeds visit for the last couple of times, but that was due to the scum Leeds fans wrecking a tram a few years back, as far as I am aware no United or pig fans have damaged any trams on derby day before.

Or shall we all just magically and safely find our way there?

Last time I looked many of the buses go through to Hillsborough bus terminus with a nice drop off before the corner to walk through the gathering pork.

There’s no open pubs they just gather there with cans and bottles. I walked through last year down from Walkley and whilst unpleasant wasn’t horrific.

I do think this will cause more pockets of trouble dotted about that are way harder to police. And after the game any egress will be slower and harder without the option of a non stop tram away from the pork.

I hope not but let’s see what this decision causes..

In fact on reflection after match can be worse. What is the SYP plan to get 2300 people safely away?

Arrival can be staggered and potential for taxis or drop offs. Afterwards the staggered nature doesn’t exist and I doubt people including taxis and friends will wish to hang around waiting in an unpleasant area with no obvious waiting location.

As I say I await the official SYP publicity on how we will be kept safe and not sitting ducks.

Numbers 7/8, 81/82 are probably the most direct and frequent and the stops are next to each other on Arudel Gate Crucible

Don't get the 97/98 otherwise you'll feel like you've gone on a day trip going round the houses. Yeah it says Hillsborough on the front and it stops outside the ground.

Even then, have fun with the Sunday service guys!

I wouldn't rely on buses, last season when I tried to get on one I was told nothing was going to Hillsborough.

1st of all I'm a Blade.
Recently you have been very vocal in the press and in Parliament re the issues at Hillsborough.I have no problems with that, you are Pig and want to save your club.
What I can object to is the silence from you, following your City's Transport provider and probably its Police force's decision to cancel the Supertram service, before and after this weekends soccer Match. Hillsborough is not in the centre of Sheffield like its No1 club.
A journey for Many Blades, like me to the Pigsty, involves a Supertram journey from possibley Halfway.On a good day it takes at least 45 mins to the centre, with another probably 45 to Hillsborough Corner, if it gets that far, due to, your Police force, allowing Pig Fans to blockade the route from getting any further.
Now the tram has been suspended from mid morning and the Police have insisted on a Lunchtime Kick off!
It will be taking the best part of a day, to get to and from a major Football match in my City "Ridiculous".
Also are you going to arrange private security for the majority of 2300 Blades Fans,to walk back into town, following an enforced delayed exit, from the ground,making them easily identified and wide open to attacks from any of your ( minority)thug supporters
Please can you publish, as recent stories from Hillsborough, on the front page of "The Star", your suggestions for us on how to safely attend the Derby this Sunday.

The decision to remove the service has been taken by South Yorkshire Mayor, Oliver Coppard, who has responsibility for the Supertram network in Sheffield. The decision was taken based on police advice, following problems between both sets of supporters at previous derby games and at both grounds.

Mayor's statement on why trams will not run before Owls Vs Blades

Clive understands how frustrating this decision is, but it is a decision that has been taken on past occasions with other sets of fans, most notably Millwall. Clive is happy to write to both SUFC and SWFC to ask that they work to put on buses/coaches for the game and also work to ensure fan safety at the ground itself.

Thanks for your response, Do not know about the opposition, but We have private coaches and Club coaches travelling to Hillsborough, but due to SYP,again, they are not allowed to travel through the City centre,creating a journey probably 3 times the normal distance ensuring extra costs, again we supporters suffer.
Every other "City" Derby in the UK have similar issues on Derby Day to which you have raised, they do not reduce crowd capacity (SAG).They do not cancel Public Transport around match kick off Times,are you and SYP saying that the Sheffield football fans are the biggest hooligans in the UK?
Your response to what is happening on Sunday is inadequate, as it changes nothing, and your party, not only Govern this City but the Country, get a grip and start looking after the working man, who put you in charge.
