Is exactly how I feel about the club at the moment.

I'm glad Blackwell was booted, albeit far too long after he should have been and I'm also pleased Speed is being given a chance but I can’t build up any enthusiasm for United whatsoever at the moment, (I’ve been watching them for over 30 years) and it seems as though I am not alone. This is the lowest I have ever felt about my club, lower than half-way through last season when we were shouting for Blackwells head, lower than the division 3 relegation, lower than the Adrian Heath era.

The lack of at least one signing before the transfer window closed has been the final straw for me. Speed identified within a few days of taking the post that we lacked pace going forward, something that had been blatantly obvious for the last 2 years to the rest of us and yet we still don’t sign anyone......why? I know we will get the same excuses today, (wages, agents, yada, yada, blah, blah) but it’s worn too thin now.

A crowd of sub 20K for the first time in years rocked up to BDTBL on Saturday and watched a poor victory over a poor side who, let’s be honest, would have had at least a point with a bit more luck. McCabe and Birch sacked Blackwell citing, “we MUST be challenging for promotion” yet they are already expecting Speed, (who I am afraid is on a hiding to nothing) to perform miracles with a very weak and talentless squad. They had one chance to bring in a little bit of quality before the window shut, one chance to give the long suffering fans a little bit of hope that we have a bit of “ambition” and they blew it.

We will now rely, once again, on the loan market. Something that they swore wouldn’t happen again after last season.

Broken promises, broken dreams, a club in free-fall.

McCabe out.

Who did you expect us to sign ? How many additions do you think we need ? Who do you think we should have signed(Realistically) United do right not to give in to players and their agents asking for over inflated wages. Speed will know who and what he wants and he will get em' in the next couple of weeks.

What lies where these ? When did he lie about Beattie or Tevez ? People often misquote what McCabe said in his RS interview about Beattie and as for tevez...where has that some from ?

What are they trying to get away with ?

I can't believe that anyone who heard the Beattie interview can come to any other conclusion than McCabe lied. Of course it's all in the interpretation but I've never known him so uncomfortable as he was in that interview.

With Beattie it is likely we would have been promoted so of course it didn't benefit the club. Beattie's high wages would have been covered 10 times over had we gone up.

I'd say it was a stronger possibility that we would be promoted, but it wasn't likely.

Had we not gone up, we'd have been in the shitter even more.

McCabe's biggest mistake (or mistakes) wasn't selling Beattie; it was buying him in the first place and then not being totally honest about why we needed to sell him.

Top post. All those bemoaning how we've been worse off in the past don't get it.
When we were under the likes of Heath, the only way was up, we knew we were at the bottom - and around that time the fans actually cared enough to force through change at the top.
The sense of possibility was there.
What we're being served up now is drivel with the clear sense that potential now really means nothing.
In a sense, that isn't just McCabe's fault as the game has changed.
But there's no sense of direction now, just downward drift and the knowledge that any good players will be sold and nothing is really being built.
The real killer remains selling off good young players in the blink of an eye.
We're a business, part of McCabe's wider business interests, and the football club doesn't matter much.
It's not hard to see why, despite still being higher than we were in the past, people feel they don't care anymore.

If we're just another business in McCabe's portfolio then I'd have some suggestions for him regarding profitability:

Sell the ground, charge interest on loans, increase executive salaries...

Just because he's no longer throwing cash at it like he used to doesn't make United a pure business. It just means it needs to be run within its means.

Can I ask a general question, you talk about the club and the running of a club, have you ever done anything like that, the adminstration side of running a club?

So you admit he didn't lie re Beattie....he was just uncomfortable ?what about the other so called lies mentioned on here ? Any evidence ?

Bartman, During the forum McCabe categorically stated that the club would not be in the same position again as regards to loan players - they had tried it and it had backfired costing them as much money if not more than permanent signings.
He also blamed the fact the the Blades were in the Play Off Final making it very late to consider permanent signings but it was not the case this year!
We are in exactly the same place with a threadbare squad open to injury problems just as last year. We already have 3 out of the back 4 as loan players- if thats not reliance I don't know what is!

we had over a dozen loans last season didn't we? (I am sure someone will correct me)....we had three in the team on Saturday and we are starting to use the kids .Isn't this an improvement ? If we have been unable to sign the right players permanantly ,are we supposed to ignore loan signings that will improve the squad ?

Did last season backfire becuase of loan signings,or that we didn't get an good enough replacement for Bunn and a striker who didn't score enough goals(who the Board provided funds for and we got Evans). Also, last season we had short term loans(Davies,Bunn,Walker,Nos,Treacy,Bartley etc). Nos,Bartley and Calve are all full season loans,so in effect permanant players similar to Jordan who has a 12 month contract.

I can't see where MCCabe has lied...in the end he has stated what he wants..in the end isn't it the manager's choice re the players. The loan market I would have thought will be very buoyant for all clubs over the next few weeks

What money has he thrown at United?

Can I ask a general question, you talk about the club and the running of a club, have you ever done anything like that, the adminstration side of running a club?

No, and I'd guess none of the posters on here have played Championship football either.

Last season backfired for several reasons:
Poor Manager - both tactics, man management, playing players out of position, not playing available players ie Reid, Little, Hendrie etc, arrogant, bully etc, etc, etc
Loan Players - both number of loans and quality of loans Davies, Bunn, Treacy, not good enough Loan players are not necessarily good team players
Injuries - Far too many run of the mill injuries eg calf and groin strains, pulled muscles etc - a broken leg is bad luck a calf strain is poor fitness
Club Management - McCabe trying to run the club on a shoestring selling Kyles, Howard, Killgallon, Bromby, Cotterill, Sharp (on loan) and not replacing them!
Poor Signings - Evans, France, Henderson, Taylor, Reid,
McCabe alluded to most of these points at the Forum yet:
Kept Blackwell throughout the summer before sacking him in August, Made more loan signings and obviously told Speedo that there was some money to sign players before the deadline!
McCabes a liar and Birch is his mouthpiece - wouldn't trust them full stop

No, and I'd guess none of the posters on here have played Championship football either.

No I just asked you about the adminstration side of things, not about the level of football people have played. I wanted to know if you had any background knowlegde of that, thats all.

top thread Torrix. I've been getting all kinds of stick for posting something similar as a different thread. I state that things look really bleak and get subjected to a load of abuse from a load of 'clappers'. Typical. The new trend is to try and shoot down the 'knockers' or throw personal insults at 'sunshine band' members. All we are doing is coming on and saying that there is not a lot to be positive about at the moment. We're skint, McCabe's sold all our best players and Blackwell's brought in utter garbage and no bugger wants to watch us.

It's nice to see some real sunshine being thrown about on this thread too!!!? (see below).

Love the last line Torrix, my old mucker - great stuff. Can I use it in future? Money man without the money - like it alot.

Only the very, very lucky can ride a property bubble for an entire career. His luck has run out and it has gone horribly wrong for him, unfortunately SUFC have been caught up in it.

yep.

Without getting paranoid I was very disappointed that we didn't make any signings before the deadline!
Disappointed YES
Surprised NO
Speedo got everyones expectations up when he alluded to making one or two permanent signings before the deadline.
But No, we are yet again relying on loan players to make up the numbers.
Message to Messrs McCabe and Birch - Don't be surprised by sub 20,000 gates get used to them, you cannot continue to lie to the fans about promotion ambitions
You cannot continue to lie, lie, and lie again and get away with it!
I have had phone calls, letters, and even Speedo is writing to the stay aways to beg support - You lied at the forum Mr McCabe, you lied about Beattie, you lied about Tevez money
Peaple are calling your bluff
Good luck Speedo, you will need it working for those w***kers!!!

same owd, same owd Fiery.

Oh no, no, no Lenners, you are not allowed to point out home truths. They are merely your opinions!? Why can't you be rosy and clap your hands despite everything that is happening?

On top of this the pies have really gone downhill. There no steak in the steak and kidney and the curry one's get all over your hands. The bovril is weak as piss and all conjugates at the bottom of the cup. The girls in the ticket office are muppets and the new stock at the club shop is crap. There's nowhere decent to park your car near the ground and the pubs are always too busy. Even the chairs are shit and give me a bad back. And then there's them fooking posts in the kop. It;s a good job no fiucker wants to watch us, so that it's no obscuring people's points of view. Weather's been shite all summer too. Our lass is doing my head in n all. Fook, fook, fook.

So you admit he didn't lie re Beattie....he was just uncomfortable ?what about the other so called lies mentioned on here ? Any evidence ?

You have an odd way of interpreting things. I am clearly suggesting that IMO McCabe lied.

And so the 'Knocker' persecution complex begins. Don't disagree otherwise they might cry.

Insults are out of order yes, but if you don't expect lots of people to disagree, then you're entirely naive.

You're slagging off the club we support, and whether you're fellow Blades or not, that's going to get a fierce response.

No I just asked you about the adminstration side of things, not about the level of football people have played. I wanted to know if you had any background knowlegde of that, thats all.

I know. And it was a pretty pointless question.

Impossible to prove it obvioulsy but I totally agree. Up to that point McCabe thought he could come in and sort things out with a quick no nonsense interview which would set the fans mind at ease. Ten minutes of been run ragged by Paul Walker and his reputation had gone. Better keeping totally quiet rather spouting the 'no, it's speculation' shite.

Unfortunately there are plenty of our fans who still think that efforst like the recent forum are brilliant and a sign of his honesty, openness and integrity. Trevor Birch sounded like he was at a funeral and the club is a shambolic mess.

I know. And it was a pretty pointless question.

Not for me it wasn't. See you speak like you know the workings of a club, so I wanted to know if you'd been involved at a club, be it small or large in anyway, or if you'd done any of the course material on the subject.

I love how people are getting het up about us not signing anyone before the transfer window closed.
The same people would more than likely (if we had signed someone) be saying how much of a waste of money the player was and how it was a step backwards and they weren't good enough :D

He's a nobody.

I think I predicted that once they'd got Blackwell out a new crusade would start against someone else. Looks like McCabe's turn this time - but hey, at least the heat is off Monty's back for a while

Blades fans - bunch of whinging jessies, grow a fucking pair and support your club

Agree with every word. Speed says he would try and get a player in before the window closed and because he didn't all the usual moaners get themselves in a frenzy. Your description of em' is spot on. Speed will get the players he wants in before the Derby game week on Saturday IMO. UTB.
