I'm going from players I've seen so 1980 the starting point for me, but others can go back further. Not the best striker but best goalscorer.
For me:
1. Keith Edwards, could do nothing all game and pop up and get the winner in 90 minutes. Always had a yard of space.
2. Billy Sharp, always liked him and was twice annoyed when we sold him. Very close between him and Edwards and very similar.
3. Jan Aage Fjortoft, wish we had seem him for longer. At the backpost was deadly and the best celebration.
4. Brian Deane, the best forward we have had, but not the best natural goalscorer. His goal against Liverpool (the lob) one of the best goals I have seen.
5. Bobby Hatton, my first hero, we were relegated to the 4th division my first season, but he was still banging them in. His goal when through against Arsenal my favourite.
6. Tony Agana, a lethal combination with Deane the best partnership in my lifetime.
7. James Beattie, certainly no one better from the penalty spot!
8. Leon Clarke, particularly the purple patch he had in our first year back in the Championship. The four goals against Hull, when he should have scored six was the highlight.
9. Andy Walker. Did very little but score from six yards out. Which he did well.
10. Andy Gray. In every other respect he was poor for us. I always left a game saying 'he was rubbish apart from that goal he scored'. We got a lot of money for him, but I don't think he scored as many elsewhere.

Sharp by a mile in my time.

Slim pickings after that on the whole but honourable mentions for Beattie, Evans and Clarke.

For about 10 years from 1995 to 2005 our strikers were shit. You could count on one hand the number of players who scored 20+ goals for us.

Yes Ched Evans how could I forget him! Make him number five and I will move everyone else down a place.

If ched gets in for one season, I'd be tempted to put Michael brown in aswell

I'd agree. Brownie had one of 'those' seasons (2002-03 'Triple Assault') when he scored 22 goals. His career lasted 22 years and he scored a total of 58 goals, explain that! True, he took his fair share of penalties and I still blame him for missing a penalty in the PO Final at Cardiff, he always seemed to put it in the same place and the Wolves 'keeper had obviously done his homework. :(

Ched was phenomenal in the 2011-12 season - scoring 29 league goals in 30 starting appearances (+ 6 on as sub.) until his season was cut short with three games left. :(

Like the MoTD stitch-up, it's an impossible argument. Brownie cost us £400k, Ched £3m and Brian Deane - later to play for England - cost us £25k from Donnie.

Keith Edwards is my favourite. As 1973Blade says, I remember standing on a freezing cold, foggy terrace at Spotland in the fourth division. This game v. Rochdale was heading for 0-0 and a bloke stood along the crush barrier from me shouted 'Edwards! Tha's a lazy ***!' We won 1-0 with a late goal from...

Billy Sharp is a very similar kind of poacher and will go down in Blades folklore - rightly so.

I suppose the only positive to come out of the loss of Ched is that - unlike the other the other four - we didn't flog him to Leeds.

Ched seemed to score with every chance he got in that one season (often made for himself). I know it was third tier but he was utterly unplayable.
The only (footballing) disappointment for me was when he had the opportunity to show it against better opposition in the cup but didn't.

Think Marcelo dos Santos Cipriano get in there somewhere.
25 goals in 65 appearances

Interesting that we didn’t have a prolific goalscorer even when we had our golden period around 1900.

Walter Bennett was our top league goalscorer with 13 from 30 games when we won the league title in 1898.
That first sentence says it all. 😭

My top ten

Arthur Brown (scored 20 goals in a season 3 times - top goalscorer 5 times) 1902-08
Joe Kitchen (1/5) 1908-21

Offside rules changed in 1925 making it easier for teams to score more

Harry Johnson (4/8) 1919-1931
Jimmy Dunne (4/4) 1926-33

Relegated to 2nd division for first time in 41 years

Jock Dodds (3/5) 1934-1939
Derek Pace (4/7) 1957- 1964 Promotion to division 1 in 1961
Mick Jones (1/3) 1963-67

Keith Edwards (3/5) 1976-78 and 1981-86 scored more than 20 in 2nd division once 35 in 4th div and 34 in 3rd div
Brian Deane (2/4) 1988-93, 1997-98 and 2006 scored more than 20 in 3rd div and 2nd div
Billy Sharp (3/3) 2004-05, 2007-10 and 2015 to present scored more than 20 twice in 3rd tier.

Wingers who were season's top scorers

Alan Woodward 7 seasons
Colin Collindridge and Alf Ringstead 3

Surprised no one mentioned Billy Dearden. Not sure of his goal scoring figures but he always seemed to be on the score sheet. All ways remember him playing against the two England center backs Todd and MacFarland who played for Derby and he made them look really poor, think he scored a hatrick that day if my memory serves me well.Should have been four but they pulled him down when clean through.

Just think about that for a minute...for ages it seemed like EVERY time we had a goal scorer, every fucking time...of they went up the same road. Not any more though. Finally. Thank fuck.

Nathan Blake and Marcelo (albeit his was off the back of one prolific season).

Petr Katchouro also bagged 14 during 96/97, wouldn’t really call him a “goal scorer” though.

I had him in my list of 12 so he and Harry Hammond missed the cut when I had to narrow it down to 10

Always liked him cost 10.000 quid from Chester best 10 grand the blades have parted with.Mind you he had Woodward to thank for those superb crosses and corners.

Sharp hands-down for me. Prolific for us in League 1. Prolific for us in the Championship after that (so ahead of Evans). And still doing it as a lethal goalscorer in the Prem (unlike those that have only done it in lower leagues for us). He might not be the best striker, but he is the best goalscorer certainly that I’ve seen.

Dearden scored 2 in the 3-1 win against Derby in March 1973. His hat trick was against West Ham in a midweek afternoon in February 1972.

Scored the second goal on my first ever visit to BDTBL

I would go for;
1. HARRY JOHNSON Jnr - in 351 appearances got 252 goals, wow he was lethal.
2. BILLY SHARP - Top scorer in the 21st Century has scored in the top three divisions.
3. BRIAN DEANE - Scored in top three divisions for us we declined when he left.
4. DOC PACE - 301 Appearances with 175 goals over 1 in 2 great record.
5. JAMES BEATTIE - Was a great finisher and England level quality amazing free kick v the pigs and great penalty taker.
6. KEITH EDWARDS - Great finisher, had very little other involvement but even celebrated before he scored his fourth against Gillingham, such was his confidence.
7. TONY AGANA - Fast had a great turn and a 1 in 3 record brilliant partnership with Brian Deane.
8. JAN AAGE FJORTOFT - Brilliant finisher in the second tier and worked well with Brian Deane.
9. CHED EVENS - Shame about his career would have gone on to better things but prolific in the third tier.
10. BOB HATTON - Some great memories of Hatton he was mainly a lower league striker.

Would have preferred Ched Six to Four but Evens is fair 🤪.
