Having posted on another thread how pleasing it was to put a marker down like that on live Television I thought I may canvas opinions on what other live TV performances stand out.. here are my top 5

5th, Blades 2-0 Sunderland. 1998
Brain Deane's return Spackmans first game in charge, Borborkis and Fjortoft running riot, a team if we kept it together would have pissed the League.

4th. Portsmouth 1-2 Blades 2003
Portsmouth storming the league and virtually invincible at home are comprehensively outplayed by a Brown and McCall inspired United 1-2 flattered Pompey on the night.

3rd. Blades 3-1 Wednesday 2003
United hammer Wednesday despite the pigs taking the lead against the run of play, 7-2 would have been a fairer reflection of the performance.

2nd. Blades 1-0 Arsenal 2006
One of the gutsiest displays seen against a world class Arsenal team. Leading at half time but Paddy Kenny is injured and no keeper on the bench. Jags goes In goal and Morgan and co perform heroics in defence.

1st. Blades 2-1 Manchester Utd. 1993.
FA Cup 5th round against a Man U side heading for the title, Blades come from behind and beat Man U, Deane gives the legendary Bruce and Palister partnership a run araound and Glenn Hodges has one of his best Blades performances to edge a thriller.

So that's mine, I thought about the Forest play off final but considered that more of a great game than great performance.

Any more that could be added to the list?

Decent list, but I would have had The Forest game on it and at number 1.

I immediately thought of that game at Pompey, glad you had it in your list.

It is hard to remember what was live on TV live. If you class the Arsenal game as gutsy then if the Spurs game at Bramall lane a couple of years ago was on tele then that was as gutsy and what about the Southampton game?
What about the Semi against Hull?
EDIT: Arsenal Semi?

The last two minutes against Leeds.
Actually, now you mention that, that was a real gutsy performance and we were the better team and got what we deserved in the end. was it live on tele though?

A related question: What was the first game featuring United that was televised live?

The 3-2 defeat to Leeds at the end of 1991-2 was televised live. I am struggling to remember an earlier game that was live, though I may have missed an obvious one.
I guess our last cup final appearance won't have been live!

The BBC and the FA fell out so there was no footage from inside the stadium at all - there wasn't the usual newsreel. I think the 1937 final - the year after - was the first televised live, though there were very few TV sets.

It was great. Them lot singing 'Harry and Jim' right through the first half and them less so as Brown and McCall started to take control of the game. And that they did.

Wasn't our season opener against Leicester on sky when we won 4-1(?)?

Also special mention for our 1-0 away win at Newcastle in the prem, was that our first away win that season?

6th August 2005, the day after my wedding.

Plenty of my mates had made the trip over to Malta and i wanted to show my appreciation by going out and watching the match with them, our lass isn't happy to this day that the day after our wedding i chose to watch football rather than spend time with her, though she was invited.

Great day, a wonderful win and the start of great things, and to end with promotion was the icing on the cake and justified my decision.

I'm still married (just) despite a few wobbles and this being mentioned more than once (start as you mean to go on i say :) )
