Top 10 Blades Goals

Brown at number 4? No way! Number 1 by a country mile!

Currie's was a superb goal although I missed out on that era. Deane's was well taken (Liverpool) but like Beckham's halfway liner, I wouldn't call it that good a goal. Jagielka's goal was worth a place in the top three.

Goals missing: Davison's second vs Wednesday at Swillsborough; Peschisolido and maybe Kabba vs Forest; Tonge's second against Liverpool; Webber at Cardiff to secure promotion.

Maybe a top twenty would be better!

What about a Blades forum vote and a video from that? Would be interesting!

Where was Jags' away at Brighton in the promotion season?

rayt build up, 4 1 touch flick ons resulting in a goal.

Jags > Shipps flicked back onto jags then a one 2 with Kabba then a goal.

Brilliant

That was a good one you're right. I guess importance also counts as well as quality though. It was an important win but not in the same way as those in the top ten video there.

Who cares about the order of the goals? They were all good, and I bet you were all watching with a wry smile, and said something along the lines of "Get in there", "Go on Jags" or "Pick that out, you pig bastard". I said all three.....

Try these goals too.

Yeah just being picky! ;)

The hairs on my neck stand up every time I see the Brown volley!

Whitehouse should be there with his goal against Wednesday at the lane.Keith Edwards second against Everton.
But the No1 all time goal for me was Gary Hamson V Liverpool right in front of me as a 14 year old. Anyone know if it's available anywhere that one

The Dean Saunders one was sheer class. As I remember we were 1 up with very little time left and Port Vale had thrown everyone forward except the keeper. Saunders chased a long hoofed clearance and their keeper just beat him to it and knocked it out.
On the video you can see Saunders having a look for someone to throw it to but we still had everyone camped back in our half! Absolute genius to throw it off the keeper's arse!

best ever goal was steve cammack 40 yarder against leeds in 1974 through the firework mist..

My vote always has to go to the Dean Saunders goal - simply for quick thinking.

Second would come Deano's goal through (I think he was England keeper at the time) Wood's legs.

But they were all good.

As i remember the Ispswich goal was during the miner's strike when we played in the afternoon because of not being able to use floodlights.

Mind Lewis Buxton's was a good goal last Friday!!

Sorry if these are on that clip but I can't see it at work!!

The only thing he ever did, but Steve Wigley at the BL end, dribbling around 3 or 4 then lashing it into the top corner.

In a similar vein, Tony Field beating half the Ipswich side before sliding it home at the Kop end, about 1975 that was!

Peter Anderson against Sunderland, great ball from Sabella, Anderson heads it around a defender runs around the other side and fires it into the far corner at the BL end.

....and of course a quality goal by a quality player always sits on top

Now you've started something!

Strangely I was present at all those goals. I'd agree with Wombwell that no top 10 should exclude Pesch's v. Forest (nine touches!) and probably Kabba's in the same game.

As somebody has said, it's more about the importance of a goal than it's spectacularity. I remember a late goal at the Lane v. Port Vale towards the end of the 89-90 season when I genuinely thought I'd faint.

Also, goals v Pigs are obviously mighty satisfying but now we are the top team in Sheffield, let's leave the 'our Cup Final' mentality to the pigs. Having said that, some of the goals v. pigs were genuinely impressive given the huge gap between the teams at the time.

So my #1? Pesch. The control, execution, occasion, atmosphere etc.would be hard to repeat anywhere in the world.

I was going to mention the Steve Wigley goal. If I remember rightly it was a 3-3 draw with Blackburn (although I could be wrong) and I seem to remember John Burridge letting in a howler that went in off his chest in the same game.

Best goal I've ever seen by a United player.

That's right - it was the 3-3 draw with Blackburn. That put us 3-2 up before Budgie's clanger.

You're seriously getting your Ipswich games mixed up! The one you are thinking off was played at the Lane on the tuesday afternoon of 12th March 1974. We lost 3-0. There had been a miners' strike beginning in Feb 74, which prompted Tory PM Ted Heath to put the country on a 3 day week, call a general election and ban the use of floodlights at football grouns (hence the Tuesday afternoon game).

Heath lost the election (held on Feb 28) and Labour came back to power and promptly settled with the miners. So I think the miners strike had finished by the time of the Ipswich game, but the floodlight ban remained for a while afterwards.

Those 4 games....

16/11/85 D3-3 (McNaught, Morris, Wigley)
31/8/74 W3-1 (Mills og, Field 2)
7/10/78 W3-2 (Anderson 2, Finnieston)
22/3/75 W3-2 (Currie 2, Woodward)

One of the best I've seen is Whitehouse's rocket Vs West Ham. We were two nil down and won 3-2, Gayle and Rodgers got the others. Unfortunately I don't have it on video because it's the season we were relegated.

Quite a few of our great goals were scored by players who wouldnt get anywhere near an all-time Blades XI. In addition to Field, Lake and Wigley, I remember Peter Duffield lashing in a corking volley from a Deano flick on that had had us going mental on the kop. Apart from a few penalties I cant remember Duffer doing much else after that.

I think that was his goal in the 5-1 win over Huddersfield in the 1989 promotion season. A strange game. We came away wondering how United had won at all, yet alone 5-1.

Huddersfield missed a penalty when it was 0-0, gave us a daft one, Duffield scored and then got his volley just after half time, they were all over us for 20 minutes before Andy May scored a daft own goal, and then they caved in and we scored twice more in the last 10 minutes, Deano with a header and I think Bryson got the other.

Mind you, we lost 3-2 there earlier in the season despite dominating so I suppose it evened things out a bit.

I remember that game. 11th March 1989. It was Tracey's league debut as Benstead was suspended. Tracey looked very wonky and it may have been him who gave away the pen. Chris Marsden got Huddersfield's goal back I think after around 55 mins and, as you say, they were all over us after that. The OG seemed to knock the stuffing out of them, though, and they just gave up, allowing Bryson and Deane to get a couple of goals in the last 10 mins.

Well there's a shock and a surprise!

Ah right fair enough then :D

Do you remember that West Ham game I mentioned? The details may be sketchy because it was my first night match, I was only six!
