Soon it'll be time to play wendy, and just like the last derby at their ground we've managed to find one of their 'cast offs' to lead the line.
The difference this time is that we have an improved version of Leon, at least that's my generous description of Gary Madine. We now have a far wider skill-set to call upon, and whether GM actually starts, or is thrown on at some later stage, we've definitely improved in most departments and will have no concerns about the blue and white numpties and their super sophisticated generalissimo, Steve Bruce.
Having read their posts on Porktalk, it's obvious that they see this game as a matter so profoundly important to their season that they base everything on whether they win or not. One of the topsy-turvy jewels that I've seen on their threads is how we must not be allowed to win this game, and that Bruce will be judged accordingly should they fail this test. They've concentrated so much into the outcome of this game that it wouldn't surprise me if the fall-out was such that it carried over into next season. By which time we may well be in a different division to Chansiri's toerags, so we'll have other matters to consider, like visiting Man Citeh, or Arsenal, or Liverpool, but you get my drift. No doubt it'll be tough for us, but then would we prefer it any other way?
While we're doing this amongst many other things, imagine the blue and white army plodding along to such exotic sights as downtown rovrum, or any one of a number of similarly forgetful grounds that we've managed to put behind us. I know that might sound hurtful, and I no more wish our friends at the New York stadium any ill-will than most other clubs, but for far too long the gloaters over at S6 have wallowed in our misfortune, imagining that it was fate that consigned us to a future as their laughing material. Fortunately, we've managed to fast forward that future and watch as Bruce's boys are reduced to no more than a small team in a big ground. They also have the ace card of an owner who is as deluded as some of their fan base, something that I couldn't have dreamt would happen. So, all in all, they're well and truly buggered, and I mean that in the biblical sense.
But, returning to this thread's main theme, our forward options now make us a threat to any side in this division, and wendy are by far the least impressive of the sides left that we're still to play. It doesn't mean a great deal though unless we turn up on the day, just as we did last season when we played at their ground. When you, dear reader, might need reminding of just how effective, at times even imperious, we were compared to the mediocrities that wore the blue and white that day.
The thing I look forward to most of all are the posts written by their supporters after the game. But I'll leave that 'til another time.
Yours, in anticipation of thrashing the buggers as only they deserve, so down with their shorts and over the knee say I.
