Ok given a choice of winning tonight and getting back into the play-off hunt or winning on Sunday, which would you choose.

For me Sunday wins hands down. Having followed the Blades for the last 50yrs (55 yrs old!!), I have seen a good few promotions and relegations, Ive even seen three FA cup semis, but I have never seen us in a cup final. It would probably be a once in a life-time experience, and one I would love to have whilst I'm still young enough to enjoy it!.

I'm not saying we would win the semi, but if we avoid Man City we would have a small chance and that has to be worth having. Another year in league 1 does not worry me, after all up until a few weeks ago we were looking at a year in league 2.

I look forward to hearing others views, which may well differ according to age.

Yes Sunday for me as well. Love going to Wembley, love the build up! And unlike when we usually go, we wouldn't be expecting to win.

... To follow this up. I played futsal tonight with a load of Japanese lads. We took a water break and as I was in the bibs team my blades badge on my home shirt was covered up. One of the lads came over and asked if it was Sunderland. I politely showed him the badge and he said "ohhh Sheffield United. Which division now?"
"Third" I replied, but followed it up with a very proud "but into the quarter final of the FA cup"

His face lit up as I said this and he nodded. Most Japanese I've spoken to since I moved here almost a year ago have almost lost interest as soon as I mentioned a team outside the PL. But he was genuinely excited, so I asked if he knew we were in the cup still. He said it was on Japanese TV about it. He knew it was a Sheffield team but couldn't remember which one! He also couldn't believe that a side from the third tier was still in the cup.

My response was short and sharp. "Well it wouldn't be the other one would it?"
"Why not?"
"Because the pigs are shite" in fairness the last bit went over his head.

So for me, it puts us back on the map.

A draw tonight and a win Sunday would suit me

as long as it didn't mean our wheels had fallen off and we end up back in a relegation fight then i'd say lose tonight and win sunday as i would enjoy a semi final day out at Wembley. Personally i think we will draw tonight and sunday well who knows.

Sunday for me too ,to further that ,would you rather reach the cup final or the play off final and would you rather have promotion or win the cup ?

Sunday ,Cup final, cup for me.

NO!!!!! A win tonight and a win on Sunday! :p

Wouldn't argue with that.

Doubt I'll ever see us win a cup. I can see us getting auto promotion next season though.

Proof, not that it's needed, that you're new around these parts. In the end, it's the hope that kills you.

For me, the best aspect to a dismal season until very recently, has been the FA Cup.

Villa away and absolutely no expectation of anything, even a draw. It was only when the final whistle went that I believed we'd do it

Fulham at home and again, no expectation and after Doyle's sending off, I thought we'd lose, so a draw was a bonus.

Fulham away and between the home and away game, we'd turned in one of our worst perfornances ever (and there have been plenty to select from over the years), to lose 3-0 at Crewe. It was surely only a matter of time before Fulham would score and if not, the best we could hope for is that we'd hang on through extra time and lose on penalties.

Forest at home and they're at sixteen games unbeaten and we went 1-0 down so the tiny flame of expectation was immediately snuffed out, except that isn't quite how it worked out.

That's four games and for me, the thing they all have in common is that before kick off, I couldn't see us winning any of them.

Now, suddenly, there's optimism again and I think we may even be the favourites to beat Charlton, they're the worst team we've played so far and it's deadly.

I'm settling for an honourable and narrow defeat. Apart from anything else, we never score at Wembley (Alan Cork apart and look what good that did), so we may as well save ourselves the misery and cost. And even if we fluked a win in the semi-final, we'd never win the ultimate prize, so best not bother.

I absolutely fecking HATE Wembley - too many times have I been there and not even seen us score a goal
(I was abroad for the 93 Semi vs Pigs - how the fuck did I know we would get a semi on :o)

Anyway, if - I said IF we get to the semi final - and that is a big IF cos we have to get past Charlton first then I may actually have a chance of enjoying a trip there for a change as I will have absolutely no expectation or concern for the final result - it will be a complete bonus as far as I will be concerned

...... mind you - no doubt I will still be completely fecked off about being fleeced and financially fucked up the 'arris big style by those thieving FA b'tards cos they want us all to pay for their stupid decision to built such a toss end of a stadium in a toss end part of London where it's difficult to get to.

Who would you replace Murphy and Brayford with tonight? I'm guessing it will be Davies right back, Baxter moving to the left and Paynter or Porter starting upfront.

Sunday ,Cup final, cup for me.

As above.

I'm almost in tears now just thinking about being at Wembley for the final and the band striking up the first notes of Abide with Me. What happens after that is irrelevant (I mean the rest of my life, not just the game).

Sunday for me. I think Cloughy thinks that as well. As the revenue goes up under the ffp rules for next year as a practical point, and the P.O's are so unlikely its not worth going for. I just hope the three injured lads return in time.;)

Brett, remind me, how come you're on this board? (You've very welcome BTW). Do I remember right that the Blades are part of an accumulator you've got?

Yes that's correct........OR I could be David Weir in disguise, looking at my minions opinions and trying to find out what they think of me! :)

How good would a semi-final at Wembley be??

FOr the first time in my life, I could turn up with no expectations and I wouldn't be at all bothered if we lost. It's a no-lose situation. A perfect scenario for a Wembley visit where we could just enjoy the day.

Indecently, I reckon the players will think the same and that's why we won't win tonight IMO

Brett is Weir, Brett is Weir, Brett is Weir in disguise, Brett is Weeeiir in disguise. Repeat....

Every game from now until the end of the season is a knock out. If we lose tonight the long shot of plays offs are off and will leave us with only the cup.

We have the squad and confidence to give both a good go.

I'm going to swim against the tide as I would take a win tonight against a win on Sunday, mainly because I'm a one game at a time sort of guy.

We're just SIX points above the relegation places, and I'd rather be NINE, plus it's three points closer to the 50 point mark. When we're mathematically certain to avoid relegation, I might call it the other way.
