Rumour has it that Charlton are to make a £2million bid for Mr Tonge.

Interesting!

Yes guys, cos we've got loads of other options in midfield, haven't we?

I agree, we do have a lot of other options without Tonge.

Martin, Speed, Carney, Gillespie, Montgomery, Hendrie, Armstrong, A Quinn, S Quinn, Law.

From that list you can remove Nicky Law, A Quinn, S Quinn for a start.

Also take out Stretch as he was only ever a makeshift midfielder - and wasn't very good.

It's a long time since Tonge played 2 consecutive games at right midfield not to mention how consistently piss-poor Gillespie has been.

Martin is an unknown quantity.

Carney and Hendrie - both of which are better suited out wide and I'm far from convinced by Hendrie.

That leaves Speed and Monty who I don't think you can fairly compare to Tonge.

If we're signed up to Robson's ethos of only replacing players with better options then it's a no-brainer.

Don't get me wrong, Tonge has done enough to warrant receiving a poke in the eye from every paying fan for some of his performances over the last couple of years, but it doesn't mean we should all offer to "drive him there ourselves" as soon as the first sign of interest is shown. Unless, of course, I'm completely wrong when I say we need to strengthen our creative midfield options.

The emphasis is on the price tag though. If someone offers £2 million for a player who hasn't been up to scratch for a very long time, I think is very good business.

That wasn't my point though.

But seeing as though you mention it, what's the point of cashing in at this stage?

Exactly. Which he hasn't. So why is everyone desperate to offload him?

I'm not desperate to offload him but I think a new challenge would be good for him.......unless he can get some consistancy here.

Ps......and not drop his head everytime something goes wrong.

:)

Cash in now, because I highly doubt anyone will match or better that offer now or in the future.

Get him off the wage bill, he isn't performing. So no point him being here.

But at the moment we haven't got much of an alternative, and we're not haemmoraging money. We're going around in circles.

This is what I'm saying,

In my opinion Tonge isn't part of the answer. The alternative I believe is no worse than Tonge.
I agree Robbie! I'd personally prefer to see Alan Quinn in Tongey's roll but it clearly isn't going to happen because King Robbo has made up his mind that Tonge is much further up the pecking order. What I am saying is that there is NO-ONE else that is anywhere near the standard needed to replace him. So I think it's very premature to think about offloading him.

Ahhhh I see, we're taking in to account what Robbo thinks :D Forget him haha.

My position as a final note on this is that, If I were manager I would snap their hands off at £2 million

Tongey has been crap since Browny left (apart from that spell in 2005/06 where he came back from being dropped) so sell him, im sure Robson will bring someone else in

i would sell him in a second, especially for 2 mil
would prefer to see quin coming in to the frame

I think im one of few that actually doesn't mind tongey!! But still............ 2mill thankyou very much bye bye tongey

We've apparently turned down a £1.5m bid.
