Tommy Doyle

I think he could come in and do a solid job. He's not been a standout performer for Wolves, mainly because he's been used as a more conservative defensive midfielder a lot of the time - just in there to move the ball around the pitch for the more creative individuals to work their magic.

His passing numbers are actually pretty decent. 83.3% pass completion rate for Wolves is a solid number for a PL midfielder. Only 1 assist and no goals highlights how they have not required him to be an offensive presence.

And his defensive stats are reasonable too. His numbers for Wolves over the past 2 seasons, are on par with those he achieved in his season with us, and he has played approx. 200 minutes fewer for Wolves across his 2 seasons with them, than he did in one season for us.

Think he could come in and very adeptly take up the Arblaster role in our midfield - dictate play from a deep position, while supporting Souza with defensive contributions. If we're failing to get a move completed for others, I'd very much like to see us knock on Wolves' door.

It worries me that there are people who seem uk think he's not good enough for us.

Peck shows his inexperience at times and is still learning in his first full season in the first team. Davies is great but we are banking on him remaining fit.

Not sure why anyone would be against a cheeky loan for Doyle especially when we are being fucked about on other deals.

I'd take him on a loan with opton to buy end of season, he's young and knows the club, no certainty Arblaster will come back the same.

Sure Leicester don’t give a shit what we do. If they’re not overly bothered about getting rid of him since he was on the bench the other night, why would they care if we have other targets?

Leicester might not give a shit what we do but fact remains they are up shit street with PSR so need to move players, preferably home grown ones on.

I'm less keen on this one.

I'm not sure what Tommy Doyle brings to this team that Sydie Peck and Tom Davies don't. As many of us anticipated, he's struggled with the step-up... likely due to his physical limitations.

I'd prefer we loaned Choudhury or Charles.
Charles isn't in the same stratosphere as Doyle.

Doyle would be the best midfield signing we could make

He'd form the best partnership with Souza and would be the closest thing to an Arblaster replacement

Would be like Brereton with the extent he'd massively improve our chances of promotion - potentially a critical signing that tips us over the level required

i like choudray but if we could get tommy doyle back thats even better imo its certainly looking like we had deals in place for choudray and bbd but both their clubs seemed to have moved the goalposts so to speak

Would take that but could you see that happening given that he has done well for Wolves from what I have seen.
He's played like 17 games for them this season but on 4 games have been 90 minutes. Bit part role for them at the moment

Not a position we're particularly weak in once Souza & Arblaster eventually return, meaning any CM signing is likely going to be a loan with little chance of making it permanent.

One consideration with Tommy Doyle would be that we couldn’t automatically expect him to slip straight back into our current line up either.

Looking at our current squad of lads, he would only be familiar with a couple of them these days due to the heavily changed team since he left. Therefore he would have to get used to the new squad of players and a completely different style of play to what he played in before.

We know his strengths based on us as a team before and no doubt Wilder would get him firing within this set up. He seems the sort of hard working lad who would want to come back and put a positive stamp on things, he was after all open to that idea if he came back for a PL season with us.

But he would theoretically be in a similar position to any new recruit this season, but he would have a fantastic head start over many, which to be fair may be what we need if we are serious about kicking on for promotion.

Saw his cameo at Newcastle tonight, certainly lacks the physical presence to compete in Prem. Wolves set up for a battle and had the physique all over the pitch to carry it on. Only abysmal defending let them down.

They let Doyle on against tired opponents.

Osula, on the other hand, looking very comfortable.
Aye
I’d happily spend 78 minutes with him on those padded seats in the dugout watching Isak perform 😉

But the style we play now is very similar to Wolves (Only us with less technical ability )

Danny working overtime with those clickbait articles. Since the takeover completed he’s not had much to write about.
I don’t mind Danny Hall at all and I think he has decent connections at the club which leads to a sprinkling of info. But I hate the way he has to write for the Star. Cryptic social media posts which lead to articles that are horrendous to read because of all the pop-up ads.

Those in the NFL thread know that I’m a big follower of the Detroit Lions. One of their “beat reporters” recently broke out from one of the local publications, think the Star basically, to launch his own Substack. $7 a month, he gets to write whatever he likes and has a community of readers who are genuinely engaging with him and valuing being a part of it. Would it work here? I see the likes of Ramble charging for stuff but I can’t help feeling it just seems a bit amateur. Low standards on content, sourcing. The Detroit guy brings professionalism you can only get from years of covering the team/sport properly. He also actively engages in a chat. It’s like having a genuine insider on here. I don’t know, a discussion for another day/thread.

The NFL does it, all okay.

A Sheffield United fan does it via YouTube….

Are wolves interested in releasing him?
They are fighting to stay in the premier league so unless they have a better replacement lined up I'd be surprised they'd let him go.

Wolves might want to bring players in but up against FFP so need to loan him out to bring in
