I am having a debate who sang it first and I for some reason thought it was the Blades is it so or am I clueless?

No GC just makes up his own bullshit versions and then peddles them as fact.

I thought it was Rotherham, no wait, Grimsby, er no Cheltnham, or maybe Alfreton under 19's womens reserve team.
anyone but United, we haven't enough inspiration and imagination to think up our own songs! :D

I think Elias & His Zig Zag Jive Flutes had a bash at it before us along with various other teams ;)

I know we were one of if not the first English club to use it.

Unfortunately, half of the clubs in the football league seem to use it as their goal celebration music, it's a shame really, because it's utter shite. Cringeworthy shite, and the sooner we get rid of it the better. It takes a lot of the passion out of goal celebrations and makes us seem like 'plastics'.

I was at Uni in 1995 and a Forest fan in my halls informed me that Forest were using it way back then...

Walthamstow Snr says it was used as the theme tune to some kids show about treasure in the 1950's.

Not sure about its use as a goal celebration but I remember the tune being used in the early eighties,
something along the lines of

'"The Wednesday (or whoever we were playing)sing, I don't know why, 'cos after the match they're gonna die".

The song was a hit for the Piranhas around 1979, 1980

bl6 is right .. but so many fans use versions of it.. it's a bit like 'who wrote the bloody bible'
also there was a version that went.. 'killing a pig.. killing a pig'.. yadda yadda

yes, it's shite actually. Helsingborg here in Sweden also use it...horrible!

Whilst I was sure we nicked it from Burnley, I can reveal that I went for a night on the tiles in Rotherham on Friday. During this night out I heard no mention of Tom Hark, but I did an "assumed poll" and this poll assumed that if i asked someone from Rotherham then they would categorically state that it was Rotherham that started it. Fact.

I wish we didn't have the song anymore - it's cringeworthy and embarrassing imo anyway.

It also impedes spontaneous celebrations and noise.

amen to that girl.. if they could add to our wish list the suspension of playing the first two bars of annies song at the kick off i'd be well pleased.. we are capable of doing it ourselves!.. fancy that!

Nicked the pirannas version from Burnley, remized by GS for us to use, was then used at Rotherham by one of GS's mates who does the annoucing there
