Errrmmmmmm, he’s gonna struggle here then ;)🤣

Whilst we might be a set of miserable bastards, who have been known to get on player's backs if they seemingly can't be bothered or aren't very good, the difference between our fanbase and the likes of Everton is that we don't have any sense of entitlement.

He is clearly a decent player, so if he puts in a shift for us, he'll be loved.

Totally uninspiring signing and a gamble with his injuries. Always thought he was bang average at best, bit of a nothing player, would have rather us gambled on Ross barkley who can be a match winner on his day

Coming back from injury and lack of pre season training too, so can't see him playing for a month. Hopefully he's just a squad filler on a small wage and not instead of Doyle...

Barkley has been crap for years mate. I really don't get the fuss around that guy.

We found a way to play but the fact is we have had so many midfield options that are physically limited.

The top flight is full of athletes, you only needed to look at the Palace team, and prior to now we have very few and we have to transition in this direction.

This new breed of player needs to have athleticism and end product or at least one!

Hamer is short in stature but he is an energetic livewire and has high output in terms of goals and assists. Souza seems a big athletic guy to have shielding the defence and whilst I too have reservations about the output levels of Tom Davies, he does appear to be involved and he does seem to have some athleticism.

It's not clear how many we bring in but the sooner we transition away from any reliance on Fleck, Osborn and Basham as midfield options, the better.

I've noticed that Rifle and Rocket have not had anything to say on Davie's potential signing, why?

Mentioned him plenty. Been top of our free list all summer. Us moving in on him broke fast yesterday and I hadn't checked re his name at that point of the day. Maybe knee jerk to get him in for Friday but we've fancied him all summer.

Does this impact the possibility of another perm signing in midfield? Doyle for instance? The scenario I’ve played out in my head this morning: we’ve pushed hard for archer and the fee has escalated, meaning we’ve had to rule out other permanent fees and looked into frees instead.

What I like about this signing is.... the combination of rejuvenating someone who may have a point to prove, who is naturally a hard worker (usually the ones that go off the rail have issues with graft). He had a prodigy element to him at a young age. He is still only 25 yet has a vast amount of Premier League experience.

As free signings go it's hard to find a once 'prodigious' talent who is still only 25, is known for working hard and maybe just needs the right team, manager and fan base to get him back on track. He instantly upgrades our bench, most probably our first xl and could see him becoming signing of the summer (Hamer apart).

You came to us as another ITK challenger, and after a promising start, then stumbled during NdiayeGate. To be fair however, it sounds like every fucker at the club believed he was about to sign on the dotted line.

So all is forgiven.

You got a bit of an hard on for 55 year old Stuart Ripley by any chance? I couldnt give a toss what he did in his career or what he's doing now. I just remembered him having a great game once v United up at Ayresome Park. That's it really. There are probably a thousand other players who I could have picked who have had a good game v Utd over the years. No need to check up on Slater though on my behalf cos I'm not interested in him either.
Aye
Tad unfortunate then that out of “a thousand other players” you chose the 55 year old Stuart Ripley that I’ve “got a bit of a hard on for” having also specifically asked what he was “up to these days” .
He certainly was a bonny lad mind.

I'd like to think not unless there was a breakdown with Doyle yesterday. My post about Davies being instead of Doyle from a while back was pre Flecks injury (us now wanting 4 more). The last information I had received was we were going for Doyle + Archer as some form of perms (possible LTB for one of them). As you can see with the link to the Hungarian wonder kid we are ramping up the options. Davies probably gives us loads of wriggle room now. Man City dragging us to the end of the window with hope of 3 of their players and our own injuries/squad needing quick improvement means that we may quickly move onto the next options / move the jigsaw pieces around a bit.

Ross Barkley’s “day” was a Tuesday in 2017
Tom Davies' day was the Thursday the week before

Hope the signing works out but hes never been that good and with the injury history I can just see him being another mate for Brewster in the physio room

Blades have such bad "luck" with injuries 🙄

Yes he was a good player.

I could have picked say Reda Khadra for instance as a player who had a good game v United and it transpired he wasn't up to much. Or Ian Ormondroyd, or Craig Maskell, or Trevor Senior from Reading. It matters not. My point really was that just because someone has a decent game v United they aren't necessarily a good player. Stuart Ripley was probably a bad example on my part as he was a decent player back in his time.

We could make a feature out of it. I could name a player from a bygone era and you could come on and tell us all what he's doing these days. And his career stats. A 'where are they now'. I'm game if you are. 😄

We can't he held to ransome by Ciry. I know they hold all the cards but Doyle is knowhere near their squad and is pure profit for FFP purposes.

They've already got one investigation going on and will want to be seen to be 'playing the game'. It serves them no purpose keeping Doye around as he's costing money and not playing.

None of those things make Ross Barkley good at football

I’d sign him, make sure there is good relegation wage clause, as he may only be an average Premier League performer but if (when) we go down he will be one of the better players in the Championship next season.

Wasn’t being / trying to argumentative & absolutely agree with the broader point

Equally (although I’m not suggesting Davies is one) there’s been plenty of lads that (you & I) have see agin us that we ‘should’ have bought on one sighting - Ray Houghton v Oxford ; McCall & Hendrie v Bradford immediately spring to mind. Bonnyman, Birch &/or Wilson (!) for Chesterfield we’re far better than most anything we had @ that time & Ill never understand how / why we never signed local talent (ooo err) like (Ian) Snodin, Ian Banks or (earlier than we did) Gerry Forrest

We couldn't afford Houghton or Forrest, sure we were after Dean Saunders when he was at Brighton around the same time.
Some things never change been a Blades fan.

I reckon this transfer strategy of Forest's is going to come back to bite them at some point, once prospective signings twig that if they fall out of favour they'll be prevented from leaving. O'Brien's probably earning decent coin but his career's completely stalled.

I am about as interested in fashion, as I am in Tango's love life, but I will say that DCL looks as cool as fuck there. By comparison, what on earth was young Thomas thinking?
Kings clothes ? Wear owt and his ”I know a football star” mates will say he looks good in binbags rather than calling him a daft tw@t
