Today's Thought Provoking Question.

I think the defining moment of the season so far has been the signing of the players during the Jan trf window couple with not selling a first team player.

Suddenly transformed a good squad in to a vary good squad that should achieve automatic promotion ( I typed 'will' then deleted and changed for 'should')

LYDON

Ta.

My defining moment I owe to the largely forgotten James Wilson. His goal against Oxford United was the start of this team developing a spirit that put us on a lengthy unbeaten run and set a new standard for the season. I'm grateful for that.

Definitely. Oxford was the fifth game of the season on August 27th. We'd started the season badly (L,D,L,L) while Chris embarked on a major re-building job of the dross that Adkins had left. Outplayed by Oxford in the first half by Oxford, we went in at half-time 0-1 down. Coming out, we were transformed and won this game 2-1. After that, we didn't lose for 14 League games until Walsall beat us at home on November 29th.

Without a doubt, Oxford was the 'game-changer'.

The moment CW dropped Hussey (even though he signed him) realising he wasn't good enough.
Nice change from having a fucktard manager who insists on playing his signings regardless of performance
Two fucktards. Both called Nigel.
Coincidence?

Technically pre season but the appointment of CW.

Most entertaining game - surely Bradford away 3-3

Defining moment - the switch to 3-5-2

Best moment - Oxford first win of the season. I was on holiday with 2 Rotherham fans and was getting the whole this chip shop fork has more points than UTD when we went behind. We ended up coming from behind to win and Rotherham lost 4-0 to Barnsley :D They got some stick after that!

Easy this one!!

Chris Wilder and Alan Kill being announced as our new management set up!!!!!!!

Mine and Bombers legacy lives on :D

Tell Aussie that I never "hated his guts" at all. I found him to be very articulate and respectable, and that the main reason I say this is that it will piss him off no end :)

And please thank Block D for his kind words. He was one of the best contributors on there as far as I'm concerned.
A quick five minutes on there reminded me why it's been a couple of years since I posted on there.

What a pile of shite. I thought Aussie was OK when he first started on BM but if you saw his posts on PigmutualwankTalk it became apparent he was a bit of a snide. Must be shit though, emigrating to a beautiful country then spending all your life online.

The moment Chris Wilder came out before the U21 final at Bramall Lane waving and smiling. His appointment was confirmed.

Hearing of the signings of Fleck and O' Connell and thinking, "this guy knows how to build a good, young side. We have to give him at least two seasons to get us up".

Always makes me nervous posts like this!

But like many have already said Oxford for me.
Wright coming in and the team showing some bollocks to come back when teams from previous seasons would have lost.
Also saw that CW was not like what had gone most recently before.
At that point I thought we might have a chance.

Been a slow burner for me so far. Didn't rate Wilder at all, wasn't happy that the first home games made my assessment look spot on, didn't see anything coming for us this season, and just went through that stage where you know you have to give a manager a fair shot but have rock bottom expectations. And then he started proving me wrong and I haven't loved a style of play this much for a long time (not since I were a lad and thought Spackman's 5-3-2 was the most genius idea in all of football).

Even when we started winning games, I thought that Scunthorpe, Bolton, Bradford, were all looking too strong and was only looking for Wilder to keep up the gradual improvement. Then we kept creeping up the table, and now we're points clear, and all I can say is the nerves are starting to get to me too much to get overly positive. Still think everything can turn in a very short space of time, but at least if it all goes sour I have faith that the manager has put us in a hugely improved position on and off the pitch. Can't say that about our last few managers.

What has been your 'defining moment' of the 16/17 Sheffield United season, so far?

Could be anything. Transfer in, off the field appointment, player performance, team result, refereeing decision....

Thank You Tyler Durden for this thread request!

I think for me it was the reinstatement of Coutts (and Freeman but mainly Coutts) to the team.

In those first few games we were lacking some composure with our passing and I wrote on here at the time that he should be in the team because whatever other shortcomings he has, he could do that linking up defence and attack job better than most.

Since he came back into the side we've never looked back tbh and the lad has really proved his value to the team. So has Freeman of course - although he still needs to work on his final ball.

Fleck is another who was on the fringes at the start of the season but he's simply brilliant when he's on his game and a real driving force for the team.

The goalkeeper is a massive improvement over previous although I'm not convinced totally if I'm honest.

And Jake Wright has really steadied the defence.

But the defining moment of the season has to be the appointment of Wilder (and Knill - let's give that lad some credit too because Wilder wouldn't entertain him if he wasn't a bloody good coach.

For me this season it was the Bury game in November. For years and years in this division we've had so many chances/so much possession in a game but just not killed teams off. Usually resulting ion a frustrating draw or, in the case of last season, usually an embarrassing loss.

This game showed that we're different this season. We're pushing that little bit extra, absolutely hammering forward until the very last seconds and it's paying off. We have turned draws into wins and it has given us all more belief that we're going to do something special this season.

Ebanks-Landell's goal made me think "this is the season".

Let's hope it carries on, we've served our time now. Time for Championship football again.

I'm going to say Oxford too. The stats on our ability to recover from conceding the first goal were scandalous* last season and the season before.

We finally did it against the Gills on TV, albeit with a daft penalty. But the Oxford one proved that the team's attitude had changed. We looked far from promotion candidates at that stage, but it did show we would actually compete this year and team was genuinely changing under Wilder.

* and I do mean scandalous.

It has to be Oxford at home as others have said. My second moment was EEL's last minute winner against nine man Bury. To have failed to score in that game would have been a big failing and have got the fans on edge.

Difficult to pin it down to one moment, but obviously the appointment of Wilder and Knill, but beyond that a combination of installing a midfield of Coutts,Fleck,Duffy along with Freeman coming in as an outlet down the right.

Been quite a few moments this season already for me but last saturday stands out in my mind,0-0 would have been accepted as a half decent point at Posh, not for Chris Wilder, 3 up top with o shea tucked in behind for 10-15mins, go and win this game.

Chrissy Wilder is not a loser, he doesn't do silvers he does Golds! We will be league champions come may!
