My problem with the comedy free kick is that all it seems to do is get the defenders closer to the kick taker. We run up as if to hit it, they go to close it down. We don't then shift it wide while they are out of shape but still try to hit it the problem now being that the wall is 5 yards away.

Exactly. If it got the ball close to the goal more than the one time it worked, then perhaps it might have it's uses. As it is, we may as well just flick it to the opposing keeper, or punt it into the car park.
