Tippy tappy fannying about in the final 3rd.

We all must sit in similar places or the gerritin early brigade are more prominent than I first thought. We are where we are, due to how we play and the patient build up, is integral to how we play.

I love watching this side play and the football we play is the best I've seen (80's onwards).

We attack in a patient way and it works.

Came out to Baldock, everyone screamed to cross it, he layed it off to Norwood (our best crosser) who was under no pressure and in a good position to cross. Goal.
Not only us fans that think this though, mcgoldrick was waving his arms in anger that the ball hadn't come in to the box earlier . For me we don't get the ball in early enough on to many occasions and I think Duffy and baldock are the main offenders , it's ok while it's going well and we're winning but I can think of a few games this season where we didn't get the ball in and didn't come away with maximum points

On those 3 occasions when the players ignored the ‘morons’ was it absolutely guaranteed that we wouldn’t have scored if the players had crossed it into the box?

The fact is that we won’t ever score if we don’t put the ball into the box (long range strikes aside). Those screaming for us to ‘Gerritintbox’ are, ultimately, correct in their desire to see us do it more often. What I think people are trying to say is that it’s about picking the best opportunity to ‘Gerritintbox’ in order to give us the best chance of scoring. What absolutely can’t be denied is that on many occasions in just about every game we seem to hold onto the ball for too long in the wide areas before even attempting to cross it, which often means that the momentum of the move has all gone, the opposition players have all got back into place and the chances of us scoring are slim. More often than not, on these occasions the ball never actually gets into the box because we’ve held onto it for so long.

Oh and in reply to the OP, goal difference counts for nothing, ever. Pinchy told me.

Chris Wilder thinks this sort of bollocks, now prevalent amongst neo-hoofers, is Noise and Nonsense. He’s absolutely right.

Your last remark is a classic example of a non-sequitur.

As for ‘us fans’, you don’t speak for me. I’m with the manager and assistant manager who say your view is Noise and Nonsense.

"I see no ships".

Well done Nelson. Carry on with the selective take on Wilder's views.

Utter disingenuous drivel. He says it as it is. He constantly preaches the right way and proper football. The Bassett Brigade and neo-hoofers cover their ears.

This early ball euphemism has now become an acute embarrassment. Both our manager and his assistant emphatically disagree with it. You may not like it but you’ll have to live with it I’m afraid. Long ball anti-football is a grotesque relic of the past. You hoofers have had your decades in the sun. Time for football fans in S2 to have a turn, few though they are.

Just imagine where we could have been if only they’d taken your advice? Ok we’ve already got 50 points and we’re lying second in the Championship and it’s not even mid January yet, but it could have been so much better...especially with the money that’s been invested. :(

That goal difference was earned when Wilder told the team to get the fucking ball in earlier! 9 goals in 3 games!
I rest my case. :)

He didn’t. You are fabricating to suit the party line. Listen to his interviews.

Noise and Nonsense.

The Bassett hoofers provided some of the best footballing moments in living memory for me. Hodges scored a goal v Luton that ended a 20+ passing move, not bad for long ball merchants. Pretty sure it was goal of the month on MOTD

Which bit exactly? Does he think that we can score without getting the ball into the box? (Long shots not permitting)

I think you’ve missed the point of my post, though I’m not entirely surprised.

For the hoofers and early-deliverers:

Think on before perpetuating your noise and nonsense.

Sheffield United play proper football now and it’s a delight.

You Bassett Boys have taken a hell of a beating. It ain’t coming back, thank Pele. Try your local park on Sunday Mornings for the garbage you want to see.

We do play excellent football now. It is a delight to watch. Probably the most consistently watchable football since John Harris.

But what do you have against Dave Bassett?

You mock and insult him at any possible opportunity.

Is your memory so short that you forget the appalling situation we were in when he became our manager. Did he not win consecutive promotions or perhaps I have imagined that?

Did we not stay in the first division for four consecutive seasons on a shoestring budget? Longer than anyone else has achieved since the early 1970s.

Clearly I have imagined all this and Bassett hadn't got a clue about football.

Our football under Wilder is good and as said earlier a delight to watch. But Bassett is still well ahead in terms of achievement and no amount of ridicule from you can change that.

That is a fact.

Gary Madine.
He's big and mean.
Chasing long balls
For his team

He looks up high
He looks down low
But big bad Gary
Knows where to go.

High high
So high in the sky.
Early delivery
Go on hoof it in quick.
Tippy tappy nonsense
Makes King Dave Bassett sick.

Is the radio on? There's a lot of noise in here.

Try and read and (more importantly) understand all my posts, there's a good fairy tail teller.

You assume that I regard everything you say as important?

Perhaps if the premature deliverers listened to what our management team have said, they’d stop claiming what ain’t so...

These premature deliverers...are they errant midwives inducing births early??
Or is it a man expelling his wares before a mutually acceptable moment??

Why Is it hoofing the ball if you put a cross in early , why not put a cross in when you have the opportunity rather then waiting and then trying to fashion another chance even though you had the chance seconds earlier , defenders have got back in the box by this time and managed to set them selves for what's coming . I don't scream and shout obcenitys when the balls not whipped in but I'd be lying if I said it didn't wind me up . Why work the ball down line constantly if your going to fanny about once you get down there , don't get me wrong we're doing really well at the minute but there's nothing wrong wanting even better .

Do I?

Pardon me for assuming that if you reply to one of my posts you might have some sort of interest in what we are debating and what other people's views are.

Obviously not. This forum and everyone contributing to it are quite clearly just vehicles for you to show your feeling superiority and spout your contempt at any differing views.

No it isn’t! We were promoted twice and relegated twice (and counting) under Diplodocus Dave. Tufty has taken us from league one obscurity to the auto places in the Championship.

The neo-hoofers pretend that reality ain’t so. They see things as they would like them to be, not how they are. They’re doing it again with the gerritintbox drivel. We’ll be crossing from the half-way line next.

Sometimes, I despair.

Tufty says Noise and Nonsense. You have no idea unless you’re the guy with the ball at his feet what is the optimum moment to cross the ball. The notion that that moment is always at the first opportunity is risible. I repeat, Tufty and Alan don’t agree.

The hoof onslaught continues. Will they never admit defeat?

Baffles me all this frustration from some when the ball isn’t released within three seconds.

Our success over the last three years has been built almost entirely on patient build up play. Just relax, enjoy the football and the ride.

Precisely so. Sadly the answer to your first paragraph is all too simple. They haven’t a clue. Happily, your second paragraph provides the remedy.

No one is advocating hoof though, just pointing out theres times when the ball can be whipped in earlier, we've all seen it. It's almost like they're preprogrammed to cut back and play 33 passes in case they get done off Wilder for not waiting on the perfect ball.
How often do we shoot from the edge of the box? Rarely is the answer. Earlier crosses (when appropriate) put fear Into defenders just to get something on it. That's where you get those knock down chances.

Sometimes yeah. I just trust they know more about what they’re doing than me though. I suppose that trust comes from being second in the league.
