Morgs has shown more than enough for me to know that he's not the answer. We knew Wilson wasn't the answer, but Morgs is even less so.

What's with the fascination of playing wingers on the wrong wing they both had/have?? We're a fucking slow side so lets make us even slower by having our wingers have to cut back inside to try to cross it, and lose any impetus we had. I can possibly go with it for a few minutes if they swap just to see what happens but come on all fucking match, really!?!?.

That alone tells me that he's not the answer, personally and I'm fucking scared that he will get the job and be in a position to spend what little money we have. We only need 2/3 players, apparently, FFS.

Thanks but no fucking thanks.

Oh and McCabe, you can fuck off too. Wanker!

At least I aint got to fork a few hundred quid to watch us get embarrassed at Wembley.

Good luck to Yeovil!
I don't think at Wembley their keeper will be allowed to walk the ball out of his area 15 yards with nobody challenging him .Worked all game for Yeovil ,Blades peel backwards and allow him to move up field before hoofing it forward under no pressure all the time in the world to pick out a player.
Why do the Blades cram everyone back into the box to defend corners with no outlet players it just invites the opposition in ,we sure wouldn't surprise them with our speed breaking out from the back.

This search for a managerial magic bullet will go on but it's facile.

The club needs long term planning to maximise its resources. Managers will come and go but they mustn't be allowed to set a direction too far removed from our wider plan and footballing principles.

Sadly we still have neither of these things so will remain at the mercy of the next Adams, Blackwell or whoever the hell McCabe's randomiser chooses for us.

I really don't understand this fascination some people have with playing the kids. Comments like "stick the youths in" and "the fans would give the kids more time". Why?

Fuck that. If you're so keen to see the kids play, go and watch the academy. I've paid for a season ticket to watch the grown-ups play. Footballers who can do things that I or the next bloke can't. I'm not talking about try really, really hard. I mean a bit of skill, or a creative pass. I can't care less how hard they try, as long as its hard enough to beat whoever we're playing. Ability, that's what it requires.

I want us to sign some footballers. Not kids with passion, adults with ability and talent. Enough ability and talent to get us out of this bag of shit, fucking wank division, please. Not Robson, whose legs don't do what his brain wants, not Higginbotham who can't run or position himself correctlyany more, proper footballers who, together, will make a proper team.

Today was wank, not because of lack of effort, or passion, but ability. The players we had tried hard but weren't good enough. Weren't good enough to beat fucking Yeovil for fuck's sake.

Ironside is one of the kids that many have been clamouring for us to "chuck in". To me, he doesn't look like he'll ever score. He should have put that header in which, granted had been given as off-side, but I think that's the first time I've seen him manage to actually get a shot off, and still it didn't beat the keeper. Usually it takes him two or three touches to line himself up, by which time a defender has conveniently positioned himself between the ball and the net. But never mind, hey? He's young and he does try very hard. Lets build a team around the likes of him...

No, let's get a real manager in, not some youth team coach, or someone who crops up because they played for someone once, and build a team of footballers with talent and ability. We had some good foundations, but we sold them for a quick buck or to make a few savings. Good move!

You can have pride and grit and still be shit though. And some of Bassett's side were hoofers with pride and grit who did well. It's easy stereotyping players into hoofers and non-hoofers, but a better division would be the shit from the non-shit, or perhaps the triers from the coasters.
this thing about Basset's side being a bunch of honest hoofers with passion is a total myth and is disrespectful to DB.. there were some good players in that team.. some of them full internationals.. deane, hodges, kelly.. this myth still rumbles on among the great and good at BDTB.. all teams can summon up passion. not all teams can summon ablility. you need both

as fans ,we really need to move on from this hoof non hoof shite. I agree with you on this ,there are times to play long ball ,short ball channel balls ,etc etc. The next manger should be defined as either hoofball or not ,it divides the fans and divides the club.

Some of our fellow posters should be made to read this sound and indisputable common sense, twice a day for the next year.

Unless, of course, they are busy shouting 'upanatem' at fourteen year olds.

we played some really good football under bassett.
the longball myth holds no water at all.
just an easy label used by the lazy.

anybody who thinks the likes of glyn hodges, dane whitehouse, ian bryson, tony agana and brian deane werent all very talented footballers is a mug. if david beckham had scored that goal deane scored by robbing bruce grabtheloot, everybody would be purring about it for a decade. but cos hes a big striker playing for a bassett team it was "a goalie mistake and an open goal".

Why Macdonald ,our creative player created fuck all today which had mirrored his season ,he just looks like he can pass because the others are so bad. The guff about having no one to pass to is bollocks ,he just along for the ride and would be out with rest of them unless he grows some bollocks.

Also, you'd think he'd know by now that when shooting, you keep your head over the ball and you don't lean back...

Tony Currie often used to launch the ball. Mind you, it was on a long piece of elastic attached to Woody's foot!

i'm totally perplexed why macdonald is so crap at shooting.. even doyle has more success.. jesus

Signing good players costs money. We don't have money so any players we sign will be shite, that is a fact, when was the last time we signed anyone decent? The products of the youth team don't cost us owt we're not already paying and could possibly be a diamond. A thousand times better than a 30 odd year old who we've got on a free transfer.

So how come the 5 teams who finished above us managed to find some decent players ?

no it doesnt , it means finding square pegs for square holes , weve been putting tringles in round holes
and having someone who understands that , ie experienced

We do have the money though or, more specifically, our owner has money. His regular appearances on the Times' rich list support this. The problem is we refuse to spend it when the time should be right, such as when Miller got injured. We should have signed a replacement for him, rather than selling Blackman a month later. Blackman being a good player at this level that didnt cost the earth.

It wouldn't cost a huge amount to build a decent side at this level anyway. Surely it's possible to build a good team for this level using the wages from Kitson, Higginbotham, Robson, McMahon and Forte. I'm sure we could afford to pay two decent wingers, an acceptable League 1 defender and a good striker from that lot.

Wiuth the assumption that those said players are going to be released, i'm looking forward to how McCabe is going to swindle us being on the 65% threshold again next season.

Absolutely spot on!

Leaving aside the whys and wherefores of what McCabe can or can't spend, you're right in that we have plenty in the wage budget this time round to bring in some quality (for this League) players given who won't be here.

Alan Judge would be the 1st name on my list, a Michael Brown type player who we could build the team around. Out of contract this Summer and whilst he's said he wants to go 'up a level' we might just get away with it.

I think we'd all love him here... which is why we won't get him.

He'll definitely be off to the Championship this season sadly.

when what players get here? if we actually signed anybody we could moan about the scouts being shit. but as we never do...

I was thinking of flynn & murphy specifically. But it also applies to porter, williams, robson, forte, mcmahon, westlake. none of whom have been any where near good enough.

What about lowton? we all thought he wouldn't make it in the top flight but he's played every game and people are raving about him, was something holding him back here? The coaching obviously isn't good enough

well the wilson style of play and cautious attitude has caused a lot of problems.
we take that long pissing about the strikers never see the ball.

flynn and murphy are ok, not great but ok.
we only signed robson and forte out of desperation, when there was nobody else to get in.
mcmahon and westlake i grant you are a bit crap, why we signed those ive no idea.

porter was a hilarious signing. did we even watch him play before we signed him?
only have to watch him for 5 minutes to see he's a big slow lump.

Bassett brought what was needed at the time. He did wonders for us. Let's not pretend, however, that it was Samba football. It was very basic longball stuff that wouldn't work today, even with the players you name.

Once he lost those players, through no fault of his own, he reverted to pure "lump it" and it was excruciating to watch. He would fail dismally in today's football. That's why he can't get a job apart from answering Quickfix Mickey's phone.

as fans ,we really need to move on from this hoof non hoof shite. I agree with you on this ,there are times to play long ball ,short ball channel balls ,etc etc. The next manger should be defined as either hoofball or not ,it divides the fans and divides the club.

We certainly need to get rid of the Hoof shite - you're right about that. I suggest you tell the Chairman, so as to make sure he doesn't appoint Morgan or some other "Muck and Nettles" aficionado.

As to dividing fans - only in S2 I'm afraid. The rest of football acknowledged reality and moved on long ago.

Thats the problem as soon as we get a new manager you will decide whether he is a 'hoof man' or a 'ball player'. How the fuck do you know what style Morgan would be ? Unfortunately fans like you have to tag a manager with a style and then think up a 'witty' nickname for him then he is labled with some of the easily leads. What about getting behind whoever is installed and stop scoring points against other fans with your lack of flexibilty.

Straight from the hip Sitters and spot on (as ever).
What pisses me off about the judges on here is how they quickly reach a conclusion about managers, players, styles and a host of other issues I can't be arsed to go through.
Chris Morgan may or may not turn out to be a successful manager, but I'm sure his enforced short tenure with SUFC isn't the all qualifying judgement on this issue.
How the fuck some can reach this conclusion after 5 or 6 games in a pressure situation is beyond me.
This much I know -
  • He was a whole hearted and committed player - not an ingredient to make a successful manager.
  • He played professional football for 15 or so years - This would suggest he's played under several managers, most of whom would have varying views and opinions of how a game should be won.
  • He's got all his required coaching badges - This could suggest he's been through all the various scenarios to help him understand what it takes to communicate ideas he's picked up on the way in gaining these badges.
  • He has a desire to manage at professional level and has cut his teeth on our U 21 team.
  • I'm guessing here - he has some considerable motivational qualities.
  • He knows the club after 8 or 9 years employment, most of it, save the first two years, on a downward spiral.
  • He's relatively cheap compared to someone else coming in with a 'better' track record. (Morgan hardly has any track record to be judged on yet)
This much I can give an opinion on - If Morgs gets the job, we won't be hoof, we won't be tip tap , ponderous and boring. What we will be is something of a mix, long ball when it suits, ball to feet on occasions, quick break from defending at times, difficult to break down at all times.
The above paragraph is what the majority of managers strive for in the teams they select to win a game, whether or not it pans out like that can depend on a multitude of factors and incidents/situations that occur during a game.

In short - I think Morgan is worth a gamble, the real issue is the squad of players he is allowed to assemble next season - regardless of who our manager is, that is the key!
