Thought I had posted this the other day but appears my old age got the better of me :fishbowl:

Anyhow, I was listening to a 5 live debate from Liverpool the other day and it got me thinking about ground sharing. Yes, I know I can hear the howls as we speak but at least hear my logic out.

Firstly, we are both skint. We have no cash. A ground share would generate millions from the sale of BDTBL and hopefully Sheffield Council would dip in ala Manchester City (even if its only a percentage) to save its 2 major footballing icons in the City of Sheffield.

Then there is Word Cup 2018 (if we get it). Now lets be honest, whilever Elland Road is where it is, Hillsborough hasn't got a cat in hells chance of getting final selection. My though, lets share a new ground with a 40k capacity, all nice and shiny and take the World Cup from Leeds to Sheffield. How could the FA et al say no to the cradle of footballing civilization when it has a new ground that would have the biggest capacity in Yorkshire?

So, why ground share with them? Well whether we like it or not we are both of similar quality albeit we are slightly better than them. We both get similar crowds (like it or not) and we could both do justice to the capacity. Also, if McCabe uses his noggin it would save him battling to extend BDTBL and dipping into his own funds (which he doesn't seem to want to do in any case).

I have always baulked at the idea of a ground share but I guarantee you that it will come to many cities in the future. The game cannot keep expanding and while the Premiership will get bigger (perhaps) the Championship will be littered with clubs going bust in the coming years if this carries on. Perhaps we should be the forward thinking city for a change and not stick our heads in the sand to something that makes massive financial sense. Why have millions tied up in a ground of your own, with all the problems that brings, when you can share the cost and invest the money raised from the sale of Bramall Lane into the thing that matters most to all of us, the team?

Take the red and white specs off, just for a minute and it makes business sense. This isn't a merger, but a chance for us to improve the first team without actually breaking our own bank.

If we ever sell Bramall Lane I'll be gutted and disgusted.

No no no no no and fecking no. I don't want my season ticket being shared with a pig.

Absolutely not! Bramall lane is a major part of our identity.

Just because we're skint doesn't mean that we have to sell our ground to survive.

We don't even fill the ground we have so why move to a bigger new, sterile ground away from S2?

New grounds are all well and good and look pretty, but I find that they don't have the heart of a ground like the lane

A big part of football is history and tradition for me, and Im proud of having the oldest stadium in the world still used for professional sport.

With my red and white specs off, yes I do see a business case.

But I'm sick of football being a business. Tired of seeing the world's finest sport bend over for big corporations. Repulsed that success is directly proportional to the wealth of your oligarch, or the generosity of your overdraft.

Football should be a social phenomonon first and foremost. And the society I live in has chosen two separate football clubs and two separate homes for them, both with incredible pride and tradition. (well us more than them, obviously :) )

The day we play in an identikit stadium with purple seats in an industrial estate near the M1. Well, that's the day I'm off to watch Chezzie, Donny or Sheffield FC.

No and more no's... although you put forward some pretty valid reasons I just wouldn't want to replace The Lane with one of those souless, off the peg, identikit 'football arenas'. Places like Pride Park and The Reebok are just such soul destroying places to watch football. Plus we'd more than likely have it named after a shite sponser and the Sheffield derby would be played in front of 40'000 screaming fans in the WeBuyAnyCar.com Arena.

Chezzie and Donny who'll be playing in brand new bowls? :D

Bladesway, go and spend an hour with John Garrett at Legends of the Lane and then you'll know why we should never ever leave the Lane. There are so many firsts that have occurred there over the years. It is as much a part of football history as Sheffield FC.

I've nothing against new stadia, even if many of them are dull as ditchwater. I like Huddersfield's stadium - it's architecturally interesting. And having been to the old Leeds Road, and walked through the 6 inches of shit that used to line the path there, what they have now is progress.

As for Chezzie and Donny, neither could realistically redevelop on-site, whereas United can and have done.

What's more, neither share with Wendy.

Yet. ;)

My grandad played cricket at Bramall lane, my dad's cousin scored bags of goals for us. Most of us have memories of dead relatives and friends that are tied up with the place as much as football business that plays there.

It might only be a bit of land in an a run down part of of town it's choice between keeping our ground and winning the league at Hillsborough I know what I'd choose.

now then bladesway, you have overlooked one thing here, this pathetic FA we have, have not and will not do sufc any favours whatsoever after we made them look complete arseholes, especially whilst dave richards is on board.remember tevez and world cup venues, need i say more

Why is the simple question, what benefit do we get from it?

We don't sell out our current ground, we have plans in place for this to be increased to 37,000 and 45,000 if necessary which with Premiership money wouldn't hit our finances too hard.
We also have the potential to generate a lot of money from our ground, at the moment Wednesday don't. For Wednesday this deal would make sense but it simply doesn't for us.

Forget all the justification and reasoning for not ground sharing.....Bladesway, you have to be out of your mind!!! Share with the fuckin pigs?! Get outta town!

I loathe the fact that I share oxygen with them. I'm certainly not sharing a seat with them! Besides its like Bob said, it would benefit Wednesday alone.

NO........ (8 dot ellipsis.. i won't accept anything less)
please..we always get onto this.. we'll have the 'i have a great idea.. lets merge the team' one coming up next.. one of the bosses at work (not from round here btw) says 'wouldn't it be better if wednesday stay up it is better for the city.. he looked at me gone out when i told him 'umm no actually i'd like them to go out of existence.. i can't stand them).. same goes for the ground. get your own.. you're not sharing ours.
