I am fairly new to the DoF principle, what qualities are we looking for ? From my understanding they are there to manage the player transfers, and run the football operations side of the business, working with the Head coach and other Board of Directors. Does this person need to be a former player at an elite level? Or are we looking at more of a negotiator/businessman than can manage people and processes? For example at Man City they have Txiki Begiristain who has had a high profile Barca and Spain career which makes sense for them where Gary Probert at Ipswich has only really been highlighted as an Academy coach. Could someone like Del Geary be able to step into a role such as that?
A lot at our level have a background in coaching normally at academy level and go from being something like academy director to a director of football as really the roles are very similar as an academy director you’re responsible for overseeing both the recruitment and coaching departments setting out the long term vision for the whole set up which is effectively what you’re then doing at senior level just with a lot higher stakes.

There’s no reason though that we’d have to go for a first timer. Stuart Webber is making noises about wanting to get back into football following a break after leaving Norwich he masterminded the very impressive recruitment which saw Huddersfield have their stint in the prem and then Norwich’s period of success completely transforming them on and off the pitch building a new academy and completely overhauling their recruitment infrastructure. He’s a very smart football obsessed bloke.

He’s still only 41 and if the new owners are serious about starting an ambitious project to modernise the club on and off the pitch he’s a name which should be at the top of their list.

Similar to Nick Cox’s career path. After transforming the operations of our academy he was headhunted to the Academy Director role at Man Utd and became Technical Director at Everton this summer. Never kicked a ball professionally in his life.

Yep it seems to be the career path for academy specialists now.

My concern is always the same; if the team doesn’t perform, how do you evaluate whether the Coach was good but the DoF bought incorrect players or the opposite?

You have to give the DoF a longer leash than the manager/coach they are also judged by slightly different criteria. It is possible for example for a team to struggle but for players and signings to increase in value in that instance you could be reasonably sure that the DoF was bringing in decent players but the coach was failing to use them to get results. Also if a DoF brings in several coaches who fail then he’s failed to indenting good coaches and should go.

Effectively as an ownership group you’re hiring someone who’s expertise you are relying on to run the club recognising that whilst you are a rich and successful individual you know little to nothing about football. If that person you hired is failing then you hire another. It’s much easier than changing ownership for example.

Basically, PANIC. Lots of names flying about after 2 miserable defeats, owners realising they are not playing Fantisy Football where they can buy cheap and sell high from day 1. Penny seems to have dropped they own a football club that needs players and needs to win games.
Wilder is expected to replace Sellés by November but fans split over a third return.
Mixed up in potential player trafficking after not understanding basic rules of EU and foreign transfer ESC slots. Investors running for the hills like Wylie Coyote but tapping up a Singapore billionaire called Lim who’s a multi club owner that fans hate.
Private jets are circling Sheffield as we speak looking for somewhere to land to drop of a player on loan at treble our going wage rate for top earners.
We are potentially having Coventry's pants down (again) and Wrexham are having ours down (again) but then we are having Wrexhams pants down (again) if we get a fee for JLT and QPR have gone Kamikaze on RND.

The Dore trading ground has been sub divided into allotments for unused young talent we’ve bought on ESC contracts. Beer in the fan zone has dropped so some lucky few hundred get a cheap pint while beer in the ground has gone up 45p after the results of the fans responses in the catering questionnaire.

Potentially, we can field a starting XI of CB’s if all the players the ITKers are confirming as ‘Done’ come in. That all said, we’ve not signed anyone yet and we are bottom of the league, going to be an interesting presser.

Meanwhile in S6 🤣
