Yeah, until Reuben said he didn’t want him?
I can imagine Reuben Selles studying videos checking out McBurnies quality and concluding he’s not good enough.
I can understand that because at times our fans used to joke about McBurnie being such a talentless basic footballer…some called him a donkey.
His best quality was defensive headers….however for some reason he was never as good regards attacking headers.
True story….I was in Tenerife a few year ago and met a group of Glaswegians of different age groups, all Celtic fans.
When I told them I was a Sheff Utd fan they asked me what I thought of McBurnie.
Told them he sometimes lacks quality but he’s a handful and defenders in the PL struggled to cope with him.
They said they’ve watched him playing for Scotland and they can’t believe how poor he is. They were being serious and said he’s one of the worse players they’ve ever seen wear a Scotland shirt…saying he always has shockers wearing the dark blue shirt….altho Scotland were a struggling team back then.
Comparing Selles to Wilder….Wilder is more old school and realises that quality/ ability can be over rated.
Sometimes you need players who have the right character and mentality, the will to win and always give 100%.
Wilder will have seen that McBurnie is a bit of a joker and has a positive effect around the training ground.
Really think our big problem last season was the players were mentally weak, no characters, no leaders….and this is one of McBurnies strengths.
