Hi,

I'm new to Sheffield and as a neutral would love to take in tomorrows Sheffield derby in the home end.

Are tickets generally available outside from ground from touts etc and what am i likely to have to pay???

would really like to take this one in.

Many thanks

We don't tend to see many touts around the Lane as there's usually quite a high police presence... ticket touting of course being ever so slightly illegal :)

You could plead your case to the ticket office... there are still tickets available but I'm guessing the "existing database" requirement is your stumbling block?

ill be happy too help - im off to finally purchase my season ticket tmrw - after waiting 2 months for my uni acceptance letter - even though ive been there a week already!

There's a reason for this system - is it really a good idea helping total randoms get into the ground?

Each to their own if people want to help others out... I know I would be cautious if it were someone I hadn't met and wouldn't buy them tickets on my number.

I will admit to letting Wednesday fans use my customer number in the past though to allow them to get tickets in the home end when the Pigs had sold out... he knew he was on his best behaviour though :)

Each to their own if they want to break the rules? Rules put in place for a reason?

I guess you'll be stopping issuing infractions round here then. Each to their own.

Hi all.

yes the database is my problem. Don't worry I'm just a genuine football fan and really want to take this match in. Understand why clubs have these procedures in place but i can assure you i'm no football thug or suchlike.

also quite surprised that tickets will not have sold out by tomorrow.

It's up to Sheffield United to uphold their rules and it's up to us to uphold ours.

If you have any problem with the way this board is run, can I point you in the direction of the Comments, Suggestions and Problems forum which is in place for any criticisms you wish to level.

That wasn't the point I was making. I meant that the rules of this board are there for perfectly good reasons and they have a big role to play in the smooth functioning of the board, much like the current ticketing system we have in place at the Lane, particularly for this match.

a pig on the kop in the 2 all draw got chinned when pigs scored cos he jumped around cheering. Served him right I thought.

yeah i saw that and was sat near the police at the back. They saw the incident and said something along the lines of "lets wait 5 mins before going down so they get what they deserve the idiots"

Ahh - such a cynical and suspicious mind!! - Clearly been around BDTBL for a long time!!

I'm off to watch Northwich Victoria vs Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday (assuming of course that I'm not too hungover after our win - or [Heaven forbid] too depressed otherwise) - and the Vics fans have been really welcoming to a new face. Where to meet them, offers of first rounds and people offering to introduce me to what it's like being a long suffering Vics fan!

Haven't we lost something along the way - "Football Unites" or something rings a bell.

A fair point. If I'm anywhere new, I try to take in a game, especially if it's a lower league fixture where the club could use the money. I've been to places like Crawley and I've been to loads of Arbroath games when I used to stay up in Dundee. I've also been to Tannadice for matches against both Old Firm sides and even a European fixture.

BUT there were no restrictions in place to prevent me getting in to any of those matches. I went to the respective clubs and bought the tickets myself, no bother.

There is potential for trouble tomorrow night and a large part of me would indeed be suspicious of randoms trying to get in!

I surprised a few people at a recent Czech cup game. Bohemians were playing a small village team away from home and I decided to cycle there as it was only 30km from Prague. I stopepdby the village lake for a swim before the match and then carried on up a little track towards the stadium. I passed a couple of coppers and asked if I was on the right road and they said I was pretty much there.

30 metres further up the track I found I was actually in the stadium (if you could call it a stadium) on the grassy bank behind the goal. Free entry!!! But as it was sucha small team that might never have another game as big in their history, I decided to go and pay anyway (it was only about £1.50). Still felt a little strange cycling up to the ticket hut from insdie the ground to try to offer them money. They thought I was barmpot.

I think the reasons the restrictions are in place is to stop large numbers of Wednesday fans wandering into the ticket office and buying tickets for the home end. I don't think anyone's going to be unduly worried by a single Wednesday fan getting in by the cunning method of posting on an internet site that he's a neutral. How much trouble can he really cause on his own?

I think we can safely let one person in without full in-depth security checks, and not completely jeopardise the safety of the other 25,000 or so Blades.

:)

I remember a Wendy on the very back row of the south stand at a derby years ago. Alan Quinn scored straight from the kick off in the 2nd half, in his pre blade days! This prat jumped onto his seat and didn't even get to the end of his sentence before being punched to the ground. I swear as they carried this bloke down the stand that people were trying to reach round the coppers/stewards to crack him.
It would take a fool to go "behind enemy lines" on their own and start shouting their mouth off.

Yeah, obviously. And what if there's a few of them buying up the single tickets?

Yeah, obviously. And what if there's a few of them buying up the single tickets?

If they're out to cause trouble though, they'll soon be given a slap when they make themselves known, booted out and will have put £30 into United's coffers for nowt.

The rules only state that the person purchasing the ticket needs to be registered on the database... it doesn't say anything about the person sitting in the seat needing to be registered. Hence this year, I was able to buy two extra tickets for Come From Away who should be arriving in Sheffield from Canada shortly.

The rules also state that any Wednesday fans found in the home ends will be ejected.

If they only want to come and watch the game and not make themselves known though, I have no problem with it and it's up to United to enforce the rules (I've never known the ticket office stick 100% to what they're supposed to do!) My point of view might be something to do with sitting in front of the directors box which is usually full of pigs who are more than happy to let themselves be known... now that is irritating.

Another option for the students... are there any tickets available from SHU/SU outlets for the game? They might be more understanding of your predicament.

then they'l be nicely seperated and easy pickings if they make themselves known
