(Maybe not the right section for this post but think it needs more attention)

Seeing that Stoke at home is a Cat A game got me thinking, why are we pricing fans out? I'm a ST holder so don't have these ridiculous prices but I have sympathy for the 'pick a game' fans.

Sorry but Stoke at home just isn't an exciting game you want to pay 40 odd quid for, i certainly wouldn't be paying that. I always thought we were good pricing and encouraged new and old fans to attend? People just can't afford it these days and 2 home games in 3 days is alot at our prices. Crowds aren't that high and we're winning games with a good feel factor creeping back in.

As Tuns25 said in another thread, whatever happend to the offers we used to have?
  • The new students £10-£20
  • ST bring a friend for a tenner
  • Buy a ticket for Swansea get Luton half price
  • Quid a kid
I dont really know the route to go down but personally I think this needs putting out there to the club. Bettis and Co.

The only rationale I can think of is perhaps the lack of 3pm kick offs at home? I know we have Luton, but the next one after Stoke is December I think?

It’s still not great though. As an aside, 10 years ago when I was a student there were regular £5 games if you bought through the Student Union. No idea if that relationship/offer is maintained.

Last night was the lowest home league crowd for 5 and a half years, so the effects of the pricing can be seen
Wasn’t it said on here yesterday there are 23,000 ST’s?

As the attendance was 25,100 and Swansea brought hardly any to be fair, it still means there are pretty much fuck all people turning up on the night. I suppose that’s the reality when you have 2 home games in a week. Be interesting to see how many more walk-ups on Saturday.

And before the usuals nobheads pipe up, it isn’t because buying a ticket is sooo hard, it’s clearly cost.

My son is a lapsed season ticket holder, and only working part time at the minute. He won't pay anywhere near current POTD prices, and just waits until one of ST holding mates isn't going. I suspect most people do the same. Every game being free to watch on TV exacerbates the problem.

I think it has an impact on the atmosphere at the grounds too because so many simply cannot afford to go anymore.

I havent had a season ticket this year for the first time since i can remember, Bought a ticket for Luton, £30 to sit on the kop, Its not exactly exciting opposition. With the current prices i dont think i'll go to more than 5 games this season.

More needs to be done, there needs to be more value to buying a membership too £40 for a membership to save 1-2 quid a ticket doesnt seem good value

It is difficult to buy tickets for the Stoke game. If you havent got a membership you can't buy until tomorrow, If you haven't got 500 loyalty points you can't buy at all, there appears to be no general sale. I have got enough points but a lot of casual fans, and those who live too far away for more than the odd visit won't.

It's not just at the Lane. It's rip off Britain!
Businesses are no longer happy Just to make a profit, they want to make a killing.
look at what has happened recently with concert tickets.
while ever punters are willing to pay these hyped up prices, they will keep on with such pricing.
For the record I've just paid €50 for my season ticket at US Lanzarote. Not exactly the Lane but the standard is entertaining most of the time.
Brexit benefit my arse!

If you look at the league table of POTD pricing, unfortunately you can say it it almost "just at the Lane". We've become very expensive, comparable with The Pigs.

Most games should start at 3 or midday on Saturdays or Sundays, especially when it's winter time, Sky have control of these ko times, but not many (unless we're at the top) are going to turn out on a cold winters evening to see Plymouth, Oxford etc, let alone travel up as away supporters

It's very easy to lose regular fans and bloody hard to get them back.

Blindingly obvious when the prices came out that attendances woud be well down on top of ST sales being down and especially for unattractive midweek matches and games being on TV. It's like we knew that but shrugged our shoulders and accepted it.

We should have worked our arses off to push season tickets. I didn't see or hear any motivational adverts to fans just the usual renewal emails and a video clip? We didn't even mention them at our last home game of the season when our target audience were all there. Open goal and shows up the general lack of nouse we have these days on tickets.

As well as the other ideas bove maybe anyone checking out of their ticket basket online should be offered to buy a seat for the next match as well at a discount. You've got a willing customer at that point make them an offer.

I know we can't make it more attractive to not be a ST holder than a pay on tghe day over the season as a whole but we seem to have given up on the idea of selling tickets for home games. Christ even Man City have had to do it with their all-stars team it's not below us.

Local businesses are struggling. Local shops, pubs, you name it. Not making a killing, trying to stay afloat.
Amazon and Oasis are different to everyday businesses.

It's happening in lots of things that require money and effort. Saturday nights out can very quiet, people don't have spare money. More people also seem to be avoiding going out and doing stuff in general. Stop in. Get things delivered. Watch YouTube. Times are changing.
There is another reason people have stopped going out on evenings into our towns and cities that isn't to do with money. It's no longer safe - particularly for girls and women. Sheffield and England have changed considerably, and not for the better. I'll leave it at that.

Not an aspect I've heard of from female friends and family. But there you go.

How much do clubs receive when their games are televised? I imagine it's less on Skyx than a main event or equivalent. Surely they should be able to do a bit of discounting which could be offset against the tv fees

Exactly this.
You can get a dodgy firestick membership for the year for the price of one ticket and youtube is literally free.

I've mentioned this on other threads, but the cost of a junior match day ticket really fucks me off and is pricing out future fans from going. I think the match day scheme for kids going along for the first time is great, but the cost to take a them to a game is a joke. I want to take my son to his first game soon, and was planning on taking him on Boxing Day along with my 2 nephews, but it'd cost nearly £60 for 3 under 7's to go, which is disgusting.

Other clubs in the division have under 11's priced at about £5, even the pigs have a category for under 11's and their pricing is bonkers.

Match day pricing is one of the reasons Yanks are buying up English clubs. They see ticket prices as being quite low comparable to US sports with plenty of headroom to increase given PL stadiums are full most weeks.

Price one life long fan out and there are plenty of day trippers waiting in the wings.

Took my 6 year old daughter to watch the Steelers on Sunday. £20 for both of us. Football is obviously a more popular sport so you’d expect a higher price but it would be closer to £60 to go to the lane pay on the day.

Took her to Hallam FC on Saturday as well, that was just £6 for both of us. People will eventually find other ways to spend their money. The PL can justify it as it’s such a sought after “product” with plenty willing to pay whatever it costs but the Championship isn’t.

But it isn’t just that, I don’t have a dodgy fire stick, but I have Sky so I didn’t need to travel last night, I could watch at home for no cost. I’m away on holiday but I wouldn’t have gone if I’d been at home. I shall go on Saturday.

Even without going down the dodgy route, there are so many of our games on Sky or Sky + now that is bound to have an effect. From the Leeds game on 18th Oct to Millwall on 11th Dec, the Stoke game is the only one of our 11 games not on.

The cost is the reason i cant take my son.

Id love to take him to games and he'd love to go, but its simply not worth the money.

Yes, when i was younger i had season tickets and travelled to watch United, which was part of my weekly routine.

Increasing costs in all areas of life mean a lot of people have decisions to make.

What can United do? I dont really know, as there costs are also increasing which means they need to find money where they can.

I guess it also adds to the stadium development thread. Whats the point in developing if people cant afford to go now?
If they develop, ticket prices will go up (even more) to try and get the money back, but after all, you are only going to the lane to watch 90mins of football 🤷‍♀️

To put it into perspective, my season ticket renewal would have been just over £400, so for arguments sake call it £400. If you POTD every game of the season assuming an average price of £30 it would come to £690, so you pay £290 more, that would put off alot of POTD fans attending regularly. If POTD was capped at £20 POTD over the season would pay £460, so incentive is still there for ST holders but also encourages POTD. Id take an educated guess tickets capped at £20 would mean we could easily achieve an average attendance of 30000. Pulling in more casual fans and families, they will buy a programme, buy items from the club shop etc increasing those revenues.

But what do i know?
