No this isn't a post about that we haven't signed anyone yet during this transfer window.

Moreover the pressing and more on point problem we have right now....

It's now the 5th of January.

It's been 23 days since we were supposed to play QPR.
It's been 7 days since we were supposed to play Hull.
And it's been 4 days since we were supposed to play Boro.

It took 4 days to re-arrange the Preston game so in all of this it's fair to say they haven't messed us around.
Boro too currently it's still not been long since we were scheduled to play.

Why on earth QPR can't pick a date with us is ridiculous and it's surely time now we arranged with Hull too?

Well we know why in QPRs case I feel but surely the EFL have to intervene a little here. If we are proposing dates weeks in advance that don't clash with either of our schedules then there is no reason a date can't be arranged. It sounds like QPR are using the African Cup of Nations potentially as a reason too but does that mean they will postpone other dates in Jan? I doubt it.

This isn't a post about them not wanting to play us or even that it's somehow a ploy against us. More so that it shouldn't be difficult to arrange these dates, even if they end up being 1, 2 or 3 months away!

The ONLY plus to the shithousing by QPR and others is that is gives some of our lads to get fit.

  • Brewster is back in training.
  • MGW is getting treatment back at Wolves.
  • Didsy back from COVID?
  • Fleck easing his way back to fitness
  • Baldock is returning from injury

Should imagine they're waiting to see who gets knocked out the cup this weekend. Could free up a weekend to play one of the above.

I think that the EFL should've intervened and as soon as it looked like Boro was off, they could've rearranged our game against QPR on 2nd Jan rather than have them play Birmingham, with QPR putting on transport for their fans.

We now have a division where we have a couple of teams on 26 games: Hudds, Blackpool. And 6 sides on 25 games.
However, Swansea, Luton and ourselves are on 22 games.

If we get anymore postponed whilst some of those on 24-26 games play, then we're really going to be in a bit of a situation. Especially if we then manage to get through in the cup as well...

Out of interest does anyone know why we couldn’t have played QPR or Hull City tonight? They’re both at home Saturday and Hull City could’ve made the short trip over since they’ve not played since Saturday

Yes because they are waiting to finalise their transfer deals to me just cheating
Some disgraceful behaviour. Liverpool standout as well - fine to play kids/ 2nd string and ignore the shit they got from everyone else when it suited them - under Benitez and then under Klopp, so what do we expect Championship clubs to do when we get the European super league sides doing what they want again

Clubs should be forced to pick academy players to stop this bollocks from happening. Season will finish in 2024 at this rate.

There’s a chance that some of the rearranged games will be postponed…. Imagine if we have an ‘outbreak’ just before we play preston

I’m still away and I asked them to wait until I get back 👍

What is slightly unfair is that because of where the window falls, you are effectively supposed to play each team after transfer window one but before transfer window two. That allows for each team to play similar opponents.

Not sure how th fixtures work out but if you end up playing Newcastle in Feb and in May rather than in December, you are going to be facing a very different iteration of the Barcodes.

So there is a bit lf luck of the draw about this though. The assumption that everyone improves in Jan may not be true.

Injuries aside, I doubt QPR as a collective will be much better than previous. I'm not overly convinced, takeover or not, that Hull will be attracting a significantly higher calibre of player. Boro have already flashed the cash and that is what makes it unfair to allow all the newly signed players to be selected. Boro were known as being a bit impotent in front of goal and whilst there are no guarantees, they will have added at least a couple, from Brighton and Arsenal to improve this meaning we will face a Boro 2.0 twice which isn't the intention. Preston could go either way. The whole new manager syndrome should have settled down by end Jan and I can't see them investing significantly this month.

I suppose the main positive for us is that we are unlikely to lose players we have relied upon in the recent good run.

There won't be any interest for Wes, despite his good performances.

It's very unlikely we'll receive offers for any of the back 5.

Fleck's recent episode will probably see clubs hang fire and Norwood has seldom been seen as a target for others.

We might drum up interest for forwards but given Didzy and Billy are first picks, it's unlikely to be for them and N'Diaye only recently signed a deal, likewise Jebbo so not much logic there.

In the end, just like when we went down, our mediocrity will save us from being pillaged.

With a slight nod and a wink I think we all know we'd hit better form of late and that the ceiling under Hecky is probably higher with this group than under Slav or that our league position suggests.

Maybe it's no bad thing that we be the ones who fly under the radar this Jan.

But you could flip it the other way too. Let's say the EFL insist that for the rearranged games both teams must only field players that were registered and eligible to play at the time of the original fixture.

If (and whoa what a big if it is!) we sign a number of first team additions in January who all hit the ground running, would you be happy if we were prevented from fielding them in the rearranged fixture?

There will be a fucking huge fixture pile up no doubt with previously convenient games to attend (for away support) being stuffed in midweek with something like a Monday-Thursday-Sunday-Wednesday-Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday combination which will both fuck the players and rinse supporters' bank accounts clean.

And we'll end up scrapping for the final play off spot on that las Saturday fixture with six players injured or isolating.

*not the players, natch

If it applied to both teams, yes because I think we have a better team right now than Boro.

But potentially without MGW?
That's a fair point. Although he's had quieter games, he's pretty much been a fixture and on the backdrop of all our moaning he's been one of, if not THE standout player in our league, so every day that ticks by without a match is one closer to him being available. Fingers crossed.

Just looking at the FA Cup fixtures doesn’t look to be one postponement so far. Strange how all of a sudden all these clubs can field an 11. How very odd.

Deadbat . Hmm, interesting!

I'm not surprised by that. QPR are probably taking longer to rearrange due to the AFCON. As I said in the other thread, we'd do the same.

As Karaoke Blade said, if our success or otherwise depends on whether we play QPR in a month or two months, then we are clutching a bit. There's tons of games left v lots of teams. I do think way too much is being made of one rearranged game. It's not as if it won't get played! Are people that bothered or think I is that important to our season?

Dont think the public will find out whether Swansea offered 25th Jan to QPR before us or vice versa. If it was us first then we have a strong case in making a complaint to the EFL.

Complaints are being made with the EFL already:

I know the comments about 25 Jan and I may be proved totally wrong again in next couple of days but I'd be very surprised if we wanted play on that date. After such a long lay off to Derby game from the Fulham game (not withstanding todays match) then I couldn't see us wanting to go Sat-Tue-Sat-Tue-Sat. After two away and a home game, I should imagine we would want the week to next away game.
