International break question:

Last game was Wrexham, next game is Swansea - two Welsh teams in a row.

Have we ever played three Welsh teams in a row?

Have we ever played three Welsh teams in a row at home?

Last season as well.

Swansea and Cardiff in the league and Wrexham in the League Cup.
Ah yes, forgot that.

Between playing Wrexham in the league in 1982-3 and this year we played them 9 times in cups: 3 times in the FA Cup (1984, 2022-3 twice), 4 times in the League Cup (1997-8 twice, 2003-4, 2024-5) and in what was then the Sherpa Van trophy twice (both in 1988-9). We have won 5, drawn 3 and lost only one of those games. That's a lot of times being drawn together. I suspect Arsenal are also up there in that period for Cup games played.

Saturday was their first win at Bramall Lane, the latest club in a long line to break their duck in the last 15 years or so.

I’m yet to hear a coherent argument as to why the three Welsh teams are allowed in the English football league. There’s a functioning Welsh league, why don’t they play in that?

Because they were professional sides long before there was a proper Welsh league, I think.

Theres no logical reason why the UK has 4 international football teams. Every other sovereign state (even those with strong regional/national identities like Spain and Canada) has one.

Is all dowm to history and tradition. Ditto Welsh clubs in the English league.

All reasons but none compelling enough. If a Welsh team qualifies for European competition do they take the place of an English team even though they’re under the control of the Welsh FA?

I also remember how frequently the Welsh FA seemed to overturn any appealed red cards given in EFL competitions. It’s a joke.

As long as we don’t let the jocks in as well. It’s weird that they all hate the English, but want to play in our football pyramid!

That's an interesting question because when Swansea won the League Cup in 2013 they qualified for the 2013-14 Europa League but any coefficient points they earned counted towards England and not Wales.
