Thoughts on Baldock and Stevens position on this graph vs other prem fullbacks?

It's full back progressive runs vs tackles made in the prem compared to each other. I honestly thought they would be one of the best. Considering we have second least goals conceded and we rely on them to go forwards, but apparently they are not doing so well compared to others.

We've been nowhere near as expansive this season which I'd imagine is the main reason.

However also, we're the only side who's fucking centre backs play a part in overlapping, meaning our wing backs aren't always the ones sprinting towards the corner flags.

It would be interesting to see JOC and Bash on that same graph.

i read this as they dont play the long pass over the top and progress though mid field sharing the progressive passes.
the defensive tackels are not (entirerly) down to them. the way we play as a team

An interesting stat but difficult to know what to make of it unless you know what a 'progressive run' is.

Equally players like Bobby Moore, Paul McGrath and to a much lesser extent Bladey Shaky Jakey didn't make that many tackles, as they had great reading of the game and positioned themselves accordingly.

Vinnie Jones put lots of 'tackles' in!

No it’s not. It’s progressive runs + progressive passes v tackles.

Ourss are wing backs not full backs.

Last season"s graph would have been different for our lads.

Here lies our strikers' isolation problem.

The flat 3 have their hands full/ tied too.

Understandable at this stage of the season.

Be interesting to see how this compares with them both last season

They aren't fullbacks though, they can't be compared to any of the others as their wingback positions probably means they make less tackles and make less runs with the ball, due to their position on the pitch.

Truth is our WBs have been pretty average this year. Their main role has been back-up to the back three who have been immense. Their attacking contribution has been on a par with our attack as a whole which has been a bit of a damp squib. The stats back this up and there's no point in skirting round the subject or feigning shock when presented with stats such as these.

I'm not alarmed by any of this as our defence has shown itself to be PL grade. The rest just need to pull their socks up a bit.

I’m not sure about that.

Our defence 'is P.L. grade' simply because we are protecting them with withdrawn wing backs and a flat middle 3.

This is what lesser teams have to do in the P.L., keep it tight and attack on the counter or when some other occurrence falls into their path e,g, break of the ball, luck, referee error, sending-off' key injuries etc.

That's what we are doing and when we ventured too far upfield v Watford we nearly conceded two big chances for Watford.

Wilder knows exactly what he is doing and we would have seen a totally different performance by the wing backs and the middle 3 if we had dropped a goal behind, bit like Chelsea in fact. Thing is, any point away from home is like gold dust and we will be cautious as to open up runs big risk of losing the game.

Home games we will attack to win the game even if we are level but it depends on the opposition. We'll get their measure first and choose our moments/phases.

Once he decides we are strong enough to compete further upfield he will do it.

One year I remember Leicester being way adrift at Xmas ( year before they were Champions). At the turn of the year they all-out attacked teams and stayed up quite comfortably but that was 'last chance saloon'. Let's hope we avoid getting anywhere near there!!

Weapons grade nonsense.
