I wonder what those managers like McCall, who turned us down, feel now? At the time the club had no money, a poor squad with the prospect of selling the better players, now we are suddenly on the verge of great things (maybe a slight exaggeration) but certainly more potential than there was 3 months ago.
Were they told that there was a possibility of new investors?
How certain was McCabe of the money coming in and if he was why didn't he go for someone more high profile/experienced?
How long could he have waited to appoint a new manager, or would the unrest from the fans been too great?
Would we/Morgan accepted continuing to be a temporary manager until the deal had been confirmed?

I can only presume the possibility of investment at the time was just that, a possibility. McCabe may have mentioned to the candidates that there could be something on the horizon but the other side of the coin, (and more probable at the time) was that they would have to work within a strict budget and could lose 2 or 3 members of the squad should the right offers come in.

If you remember a week before the Bradford game McCall said he expected United to sell more players before the window shut, so this for me says he didn't know.

We had to choose a manager for the worst case scenario which we did.

just don't see the big deal with McCall ,he was a good player for us ,a poor manager for Bradford and now hes doing ok in a league akin to the Meadowhall judging by the players we have coming from there.

I'm almost 100% sure they wouldn't have known. McCabe didn't want or get any leaks on the investment and its to his and the others involved's credit that the deal went through before the media got wind of it.

I'd also think that he might want the new manager to come because it was a challenging job and not because we had a huge pile of cash.

It's perhaps also to Weirs credit then that he came and gave us a go when he thought there was no cash.

Now all Weir needs to do is turn the shite around and get polishing the turd

This wasn't really a call for McCall as his track record, as you point out, is not that fantastic, but he must be a bit gutted having turned the job down due to the state of the finances to find out that the club has just been part bought by a very wealthy Saudi Prince. I am sure Alanis Morisette has a song about this somewhere:-)
