Those going mad about Hanson

It all depends what you mean about being hasty.

Yes we are having a good season - all based around the 3-4-1-2 formation we have played since game 5 or 6.

We may need a new striker, but I am yet to see any reasonable liking for Hanson. Clarke/Sharp has been tried 3 times now with not a lot of success when we start with it.

The fear of a lot is what Hanson brings......potential for hoofball, which will not go down well with a lot of fans.

Again, an opinion - we don't need another striker (like Hanson) - we need the defence not to concede. If the defence had been on their game yesterday we would have won - comfortably.

What appears to be creeping in now, is other managers are sussing us out - we have to now second guess these teams.

Fleetwood (IMHO) is for me, harder than Scunny or Bolton. We battered Fleetwood at their ground - but they did on numerous occasions get at us with pace - and it's pace we don't seem to handle at present.

AK should be only with the defence on Monday and reaffirm things on Tuesday - the midfield and front two actually take care of themselves for a short while.

UTB.

I agree with everything said in this post.

I would 100% rather be playing Scunny or Bolton than Fleetwood On Tuesday.

I highly doubt Hanson is coming to be a twenty minute impact sub, I think he is coming to start games and that is concerning.

Is CW losing his nerve with the style of play and going to revert to a more direct type? A bit like how we started the season? I sincerely hope not.

We have to get out of this god forsaken league before we can look at better quality players if that means bring in Hanson to bully us out so be it. We've got to stay behind wilder & knill they know what is required utb
Totally agree also free kicks and corners are a big part of the modern game and our success ratio needs improving Hanson would a big factor in improving it. Anyone who can motivate players and himself and get promotion and after not getting wages for three months needs a medal not criticism

Also the many crosses that get played in with nobody on the end of it. Far to many are not converted
. Think Wilder highlighted that yesterday.

Me too - I seem to recall Wilson launching balls at Clarke, which drew un-approving noises from the fans.

Just don't want it to be plan A.

I seem to remember Bradford City fans saying that if only Billy Sharp was alongside Hanson they'd destroy League one, now he's shit and they can't get rid of him quickly enough?

I'll stick my neck out and say I reckon he'd prove to be a great signing, if it happens. He's not big time, he's an honest pro who comes from humble beginnings and I think he would give the opportunity his absolute last breath in order to be a success. Let's not forget he was the reason Nakki Wells scored so many, so why couldn't he do the same for Billy Sharp?

Whatever, if it means Leon Clarke is surplus to requirements, it's good business :)

I know nothing of him but i trust Tufty's judgement. He knows exactly what is required and as he sees the training pitch action too......we do not.If CW says we need him, thatll do for me !

Remind me of the kind of reaction to when we first signed the likes of Neill Shipperly, Jon Stead and even Wayne Allison.

Seems clear (imo) he's being brought in as an impact player, to help cause more chaos in the opposition box in the last 15 minutes when teams are sitting back.

Much bigger physical presence than Clarke and should hopefully make the ball stick better up front.

Think Lavery will still be the first choice partner for Sharp. Sort the defence out (wright and lafferty back in), get Carruthers fit and we should still be top two.

Fuming at full time today mind

Up the enfuriating Blades
Other then it provide a different option I'm surprised CW is not looking for a good finisher as we are clearly creating chances, converting more of them is the issue and a leaky defence - good luck to him if he comes but feel Clarke is a better finisher

But is Ckarke not putting them away when he does play?

Clarke works with Wilder everyday and so far failed to get into his scoring stride. Yes he's been absent due to injury or bench warming but when he has played he hasn't really stood out so maybe it is time for a change for all concerned.

I can understand the argument that we see lots of the ball, get lots of crosses in and we get lots of corners, therefore Hanson would be effective.

My immediate thought is that, with Hanson in the team, we wouldn't play in the way that creates all those corners in the first place.

Posted similar on the rumour thread but would be happy for Hanson to sign if only for set pieces alone which we waste an enormous amount of.

He used to work in co-op and before that sing MMMM-bop , if he is no good ,we can always use him to serve us a pint at half-time whilst singing MMMM-B0P to us .

Don't expect him to start a game - I reckon it's a short-term deal to give us a Plan B when teams inevitably sit back with everyone behind the ball.

If we have to go route one some games or towards the end of games to get us up who cares !! We are in this league and need to get out by all costs , we have played some lovely football this season but in all honesty would take scrappy 1-0 wins from now to the end of the season !
(Get wright back in to shore up the defence also)

As wilder says we are not putting chances away and can't rely on Billy (and freeman !)

I'm with the op on this. More and more teams now come to BL to park the bus. This signing maybe the difference in turning 1 point into 3.
This now gives us a plan C

Watching the goal yesterday and that nice knock down from Hanson to Sharp for the winner, I couldn't help but think back to this thread and some of the words of wisdom from some who like to have a pop at an incoming player before he's even had time to get changed into the Blades kit and have the ink on his contract dry.

I said after the Gillingham game (see earlier in this thread) that if CW wanted Hanson then that was good enough for me, that perhaps CW shold be given the benefit of the doubt before he gets slated for bringing in a big lump, and that I thought he would be a very useful signing for us. Some thought otherwise. Put simply, without the big man we wouldn't have had anyone to win that far post header, and Sharp wouldn't have scored that winner. He's not doing too badly is he that lump up top is he?!

Mobile for a big lad, puts himself about, and when teams camp in their own box, we now have the tall player to get in amongst them cause issues.

I thought he played very well yesterday, and on another day, his shot in the first half would have gone in.

Still think Hanson is a bit limited but he has a good brain and knows his limitations so keeps it simple.
Also there's no denying his effectness and he DOES give us a new dimension.
Sharp must be loving it. He now has a proper support striker to help set him up.

Looks a good signing but it's still early days.

All fair comments I think.
