Those going mad about Hanson

We're signing him just cause he can head a ball. We're getting rid of one striker who won't be good enough for the championship to get another. Brilliant.

I think I will just get pissed and write the season off or is it write the season off and then get pissed.

I'm getting tired of people banging on about signing players for next season like we've already got out of this god awful league. We haven't earned any right yet and these last 2 games should be an eye opener for any fellow blade. We need to just get out of this division 1st, period!

Yes but how many teams go up and change most of their team in the summer and stay up. How many can afford to do this when every other club knows they are desperate for good players and so put their price up ?. How many of our current squad are good enough ? 3 or 4 maybe ? Does anyone think on past evidence our owners would stump up the cash for a mega cash injection in the summer ?

If we got to a place where 6 or 7 of our players were good enough by the end of Jan I'd think we'd have a chance of staying up and buying the one's with 6 months left on their contracts now usually means decent prices, they are distressed sales.

Not much point going up ill prepared and coming straight back down, its 2 years wasted.

Basically, I thought this nice attacking football we have been playing had moved us away from a big lummox up front whose job is to make sure the ball bounces off them.
Personally I think hanson is ok but thats it.If he comes clarke goes, simple as that.Theres obviously a problem but not convinced thats the solution.Goalscorer needed asap but who

You never know what he might bring if he does come ,
He might be a higdon or he may be a master stroke and be a new chieeeeeeeef or ships ,

have faith in CW and I really hope all give him a chance ( if he comes )

Did

I keep seeing people saying we need a goalscorer, yet we are scoring goals. Sharp isn't in question, that much is obvious. But his partner for the past 3 games? Has started what, 3 or maybe 4 league games? In his time he has 2 goals and 3 or 4 assists, it's really not a bad return from someone who has had very limited game time, coming back from a long stretch out of the game. We score enough goals, which is shown by the fact we have the equal top in the league. However, goals conceded, only Rochdale are worse than us in the top 6 goals conceded.

On the point that people keep saying about us dominating games and not scoring enough, surely the opposite is true defensively? For a team dominating such large amounts of games, we shouldn't be conceding as much. 8 goals in 3 is bad for anyone, never mind the team at the top of the league that control huge portions of each game.

I must admit I don't know much about Hanson, but I hope he's good in the air. We really do lack an aerial threat at times.

Anyone who thinks that because we have signed Hanson we are suddenly going to become a route one team and neglect by far the best midfield 3 in the league is living in cloud cuckoo land

You reckon?

So why sign an Imobile carthorse totally unsuited to the style of play that has taken us to the top of the division?

Real game changing ambition would be Blackman on loan until the end of the season, the equivalent of when the pigs signed Antonio on loan in 2012.

I will say it now, waste money on Hanson, we won't finish top two.

I'll take that bet :)

Wow, that's some post ,the wrongest Ive seen on here in ages ,and who the fuck is Antonio ?

As long as we also sign another attacking player and Clarke's leaving this signing makes sense football wise.

The least he'll give us is a target in the box off the bench for the last 20 minutes and a real boost at set pieces at both ends of the pitch. We won't resort to hoofball as plan A but when the ball does go up it'll stick more often, we'll spend longer in the oppositions half and be more of a threat from crosses.

Wouldn't be keen on him from the start though as him and Sharp would be a snail paced pairing. He could do well with Lavery but I suppose we'd never see that with Sharp around.

Hanson being signed as an impact player would lesson the damage, the mood music from the Wilder interview tonight indicates that he isn't happy with Lavery, for some unfathomable reason.

I think by the Scunny / Bolton fortnight we will be seeing Sharp and Hanson start together.. :(

So you seen no reason for us to have a plan B because we've got to the top playing how we have been recently? Today proves we need a different option up top when it's not working for us.

Hanson would have been far more effective for us than Blackman today as it was his type of game and because Blackman is not going to sign for us no matter how much ambition we show.

Plan B is sort out the defence. Plan C should be the tricky game breaker who will run at the opposition and create the different angle.

Hanson is about plan H.

It is quite enlightening to read the comments of all the wannabe managers. You are all entitled to your opinions, and your input has been noted, but I will go with the judgement of Wilder who is far more qualified for the job.

Harry,

You seem to be ignoring that we totally dominate matches, away teams make no attempt to go toe to toe with us. We are top of the possession league, top of the corners league and top of the shots league. I agree that we are scoring loads of goals but we are missing more chances.

Our defenders seem to be struggling becuase the wing backs are too attack minded.
Teams seem to have sussed us out by defending deep parking the bus then breaking on us.
Playing such attacking football means the defence are vulnerable to rare counterattacks.

Wilder tactics are working well in that we are constantly the superior team playing great football
BUT we're becoming the Man City of league 1, we look good, create chances for fun but struggle to convert.

Wilder has experimented in several game recently by putting EEL up front for the last 5 minutes
And he DOES make a difference, call it nuisance value but his physical presence upsets teams that park the bus. We also have loads of corners most matches, we had 20 corners agaisnt Shrewsbury.

So when teams defend deep in numbers then I believe Hanson would be a great option.
My only concern is that in some games (especially away) he will be ineffective
But he won't be gauranteed a starting place and will only be used as a tactical weapon.

If we want to sort the defence out then we probably have to go back to 4-4-2 and then we won't be as affective going forward because Lafferty and Freeman will be forced to play as full backs.

In league 1 we have the players good enough to be postive and go for wins home and away.
We'll score loads of goals but we're concede the odd goal or two.
This style is much better than Clough and Adkins who had us playing like a game of chess.
Ultra defensive first half so it was always 0-0 at half time, then we'd risk it more and try to sneak a 1-0.

First of all, forget the championship and whether Hanson is good enough. We are not in the championship, we are in league one. We can look at further recruitment if we get there. I also do not believe we are going to change our whole style of play for one player who is probably there to just act as a more physical presence up front. I dont think anyone expects him to score shitloads, but he might tenderise defences.

It is a little frustrating that more exciting targets seem to have drifted away. Gregory and Bogle both scored again today.
