First poster here,

Most of the fans wanting us to buy pace (me included), however what about giving Thomas a bit more of a look in? Think he could be more than useful if we were to play counter attacking football against the better sides in the division or to bring off the bench against tiring defenders with his pace.

Granted he may not be the finished article etc, but thought against Leicester tonight he might've had some game time to give us more movement even if it was just coming on as a sub.

As a side note think Baldock will be a regular starter, looked quality tonight and very good competition for Freeman, also thought Coutts showed his class coming off the bench.

Yeah was hoping he'd get a game tonight.
Lafferty for me clearly not even close to being good enough, and never rated him last season personally.
Liked Thomas in pre season and in the first cup game.
Seems an odd one to buy a player who doesn't make the squad usually

I thought the same, looked a good player pre season. Think he would be a good option if we were to ever switch formation. Will back Wilders judgement though!

He was interviewed after the Walsall game and suggested he'd found the step up a challenge. Think atm he's working to get to the required standard to make a proper impact. Suspect we will see more of him soon tho - like you say changing games from the bench rather than being slotted in out of position at wing back.

I like Thomas, hope he gets a chance too. Looks good when he has played.

Wilder made two very strange subs tonight when the game was all but lost, now I know Wilder doesn't like to lose but I thought it was the perfect opportunity for players like Thomas to get a run tonight when we had absolutely nothing to lose. Like I said, a really strange one for me in that respect tonight.

Oh I didn't see that mate, makes more sense now then.

Think it would've been perfect to go 4-3-3 just to give it a go near the end

Freeman, Basham, O'Connell, Lafferty

Coutts
Lundstram, Brooks

Lavery Sharp Thomas

That's 4 subs, fella:

Basham, Coutts, Sharp, Thomas

I assumed he was just going to sure it up and keep the score as it was, but we were still charging forward. I'd have given Thomas a run but maybe thinking of the weekend in terms of Baldock and Wright.

He said in the post-match interview that a couple of players picked up knocks. I assume Wright was one of them, as I don't know why else he would have been brought off, he was having a solid game. I hope neither of them are serious.

Thanks, that explains part of it and I suppose the other part could be explained by us being a bit threadbare in terms of the squad replacements.

Your thinking looks to be correct, r666.
