This was how we used to celebrate promotions

Anyone that still wants to invade the pitch will have a chance, book a ticket to see Rod Stewart, wear your United shirt and close your eyes.

We used to do a lot of things back in the “good old days”, times change, get over it!

Hopefully Silent Blade can help, but I used to have a scrapbook with an article (Star or Sheffield Telegraph) about when we clinched promotion in 1971 by winning 3-0 at home to Watford on the final day of the season. The main picture was Eddie Colquhoun in the dressing room, bottle of bubbly in one hand, fag in the other. The story said summat like 'as the final whistle approached, the normally conservative spectators in the centre of the John Street stand began stamping their feet!'

That's how it should be done! None of this bloody Peroni, flares and smoke bomb nonsense! :D
We are not promoted yet.

But we are! I'm not going to spend today and all week worry about losing a +11 GD.

WE ARE 'EFFIN UP, I SAY WE ARE 'EFFIN UP!

13 goal différence actually

We are not promoted yet.

That was half my point, yet unless he was faking it, he didn't want it today.

Call it superstition, wanting to fight for top spot or whatever, but they didn't want folk on the pitch.

TBH I don't think anyone knew what to do as we are not officially up yet , Chris seemed a little confused at the whistle as to celebrate or hold it in !!

There was definitely an air of understatement today. Think the club and the gaffer got it right not to have 1000's of balloons, free clappers, bog rolls etc. If it had gone tits up we would have looked pretty stupid like Norwich did a few weeks ago over celebrating.

We need an end of season giraffe to celebrate :)

The point is that this time, Wilder said to stay off the pitch - what he says goes.

The club had obviously made special 'daddy' United shirts for all the players' children and wanted them to be able to come on the pitch. Maybe it is PC nonsense to create a safe environment for the kids to come on but I think it's just reward for the players to be able share the big day with their families.

As the alternative is getting manhandled by a load of sweaty blokes, I can see their point. Even Billy looked pissed off at some guy grabbing him for a selfie - dealt with him with a smile though.

Why shouldn't us fans go on the pitch to celebrate, some of us had to watch in the main 45 years of dross, some even more years, on the rare occasions the good times roll around we've even more right to be on the pitch to celebrate than the players. Bar Sharp who out of that lot will be going to the Lane the next time we're shit (which will happen due to the continual string of hapless two-hats in the boardroom).

As for Wilder asking us not to go on the pitch, if you look closely enough I'm sure you'll see him on the OP on the pitch invasion photos v Peterborough or at Darlington.

Why do you need to go on the pitch though? Nobody has yet been able to answer that particular question.

Err its actually +13 goal difference advantage to us ! so even less worry !

Last home game of a tremendous season I’m sure going on to the pitch should have been ok.

Don’t get the whole running round the pitch like a headless chicken bit myself, especially when we’ve not won owt yet and there’s still another game to go! I’m far from PC but times have changed. Can’t believe dickheads complaining about this after one of the greatest seasons in our recent history. UTB!

"Fun".

Crushed by the jackboot of common sense and popular opinion.

You pathetic creature

Absolutely. Bear in mind that he’s an admirer of that loathsome piece of shit “Tommy Robinson” so anything more moderate than the EDL is part of the “pc brigade”.

I’m no part of any ‘we’ that involves people like him.

I appreciate this is a football forum, not a political one, but it’s part of the mentality.

Shocking OP, today was brilliant.

But we all know that Wilder has been told to say he wants fans off the pitch. He, like me, was then slightly annoyed that when it was clear a proper pitch invasion wasn't going to happen, a few idiots ran the stewards around anyway.

You’re far too ‘pc’. What right have you got to prevent self-entitled fuckers from going on the pitch, thereby masking the player’s celebrations from the vast majority, including the elderly and disabled, not to mention the sensible, who also want to enjoy the occasion?

You must be some sort of soft liberal.

Self-importance. Self-indulgence. Self-entitlement. Anything that begins with ‘self’ to be honest.

We didn’t need to go on the pitch, the day was already unbelievable.

I’m just glad I ended up getting in the ground to watch it, I wasn’t missing it for the world.
