Will either make or break our season? If the board have a brain cell between them, they'll go running to the messiah (Wilder) and tell him to buy whoever he wants (within reason) because as it is, we're 5th with basically the same pub team league players from last season? My faith in CW/AK is such, that I believe we're currently 4 quality players away from a guaranteed top 6 finish, be that loans, or permanent signings.
2 pacey forwards. Coady/Leonard for midfield, and another defender. Strike be proactive and back our manager from a position of strength Blades.

I'd be more concerned about losing what we already have in this transfer window. Not too sure I'd describe the side that romped L1 and is happily holding their own against established Championship sides as 'the same pub team' either. Does the lads a massive disservice.

A potentially good post until you mentioned "pub team league players", at which point I went for a dump

I took it as tongue in cheek rather that being actual opinion.....

Superb that we beat Derby as we did with only one new outfield player on the pitch.

But if they don't substantially back Wilder at some point then they're missing the best opportunity we've had since 2007. It would be incredibly stupid and unambitious not to see just how far he can take us. Next summer is probably the time to really commit. In the meantime we need to keep what we've got and sort out new contracts for them.

Leonard
Irvine
Maddison
Murphy (season loan)
Lenihan

That's around £6-7 million I reckon

None of them will be on enormous wages except maybe Murphy and Brighton might pay some of them if we loan him

I've left Coady off the list because I don't think we can get him

Get these players and I think we will change from a club that might struggle over a full season into one that will be very comfortable this season.

Irvine is off to Hull.

I'm not sure we're still in for Lenihan now we've brought in CCV in. I believe Lenihan is predominantly a defender. I'm also uncomfortable with the amount of money we're allegedly bidding for him. Seems a huge gamble, but I've not seen enough of him really.

Leonard for me will still be a top signing. I'd be happy shelling out up to £1 million for him. We need another in midfield to bolster the squad.

I think Murphy would be good away from home, help us on the counter. I remember him being very good at that even when we weren't playing very well. Whether he'd work next to Billy up-front is another issue. I believe he played wide for Brighton last season?

I like Maddison as a player, but I think we have more pressing positions to full. He's a wide man and we don't really play that way.

I'd say, we definitely need a striker and a midfielder before the window closes. In a perfect world, we'd bring in a couple of strikers (maybe Murphy and someone who would work well with Sharp at home) a midfielder and an attacking player who can create chances out of nothing.

We'll see.

I still think Marcus Maddison would be a great addition to be fair. But I'm not sure we need him with the emergence of Brooks.

They will all be going somewhere because they're decent players

If we're going to adopt the same transfer policy of the past in buying players nobody else wants it won't be long before we end up back in League One

So each of those would be a starter? Presumably, because if they're not 'better' than what we already have then what's the point? If so, you're advocating changing almost 50% of the team. A team that just made championship stalwarts look very ordinary.

I do think we need depth for forward positions, and pace up top, to capitalise on the fantastic work Coutts, Duffy and Fleck do in midfield and stretch teams, but 50% of the team? Again, l think it does the current lads, who are performing admirably, a disservice.

I'm astounded that nobody has come in for Duane Holmes at Scunthorpe. I rate him very highly indeed.
Although we're pretty much covered on the right.

Brookes will improve with further competition.
He's not going to start many games anyway, he will get sub appearances in games where he's not under enormous pressure.

I think he d have got on for 15 minutes yesterday if we didn't have forced changes because of injuries

I'm thinking each of them is a first team player, yes

Along with Fleck and Coutts and Duffy

Fleck would do more damage in a more advanced role with a combination of Leonard and Coutts or Leonard and Maddison or Maddison and Coutts playing more traditional midfield roles

If Fleck loses form Maddison goes further forward and Leonard and Coutts play in the middle

There's so many combinations if we had these players because all of them can do the defensive duties as well as get forward and help Billy up the pitch

Irvine's going to Hull for £2.5m, isn't he?

If that's right then I'm sure he must have had a release clause. And I'm very surprised it's taken him this long to get a move. Really wish we'd have got in there early, and signed him instead of the two we'll probably end up with.

That's a lot of money for more of the same... Agree we could do with one more in there to provide depth and allow for dips in form / injury, but IMO, such wholesale recruitment would (A) cost a fk'in fortune (B) be more of the same and (C) unsettle what's continuing to be a very good thing.

If the club are looking to spend £5M+ better get some real pace and quality up front and bolster midfield with a quality playmaker that can help stretch a team with 40yrd pearlers.

I wonder if £2m plus Brayford might have done it...

I would've been delighted with £2.5m + Brayford. It could've also been the only way to use Brayford to help recoup the value we lost with him - Irvine could easily be worth £5m this time next year, in fact I'm confident he will be.

He would've had to play every game though, maybe that sum of money was too much to pay for Wilder if he wasn't clear how he'd fit him in with Coutts and Fleck.

Absolutely
This season is about adding two or three players that can absolutely and undoubtedly play at this level

Next season is about adding five more

And if this means that Sharp, Coutts, Freeman, Duffy and even Fleck cannot be guaranteed to start, so be it.

It will mean we've improved

We've got to aim to be in a position next summer where we don't need many signings to put together a team that can challenge for promotion.

You should look to improve in every transfer window - with permanent signings. Ideally get a couple more now, 1 or 2 more in January and most importantly of all, get our existing players on new contracts - O'Connell, Fleck and Brooks mainly.

But will we still be 5th in January? Give him what he needs now to guarantee we're top 6 at January then we can really push on again if need be? Momentum is everything.

If Blackburn are reportedly after Hanson then that could be a sweetener to get Lernihan ? But I genuinely believe that we are just a couple of players short of being a challenger for a play off spot. The main one is a fast physical forward as the strike force is our weekest link at the moment esepecially if Billy gets injured etc

There's so many players that we've been linked with over the last few months. I'm just happy to leave it in wilder's capable hands!!. He knows what we need after these first 5 games and will be doing his best to improve the team within the obvious financial restrictions!. I M H O. In wilder we trust. Utb

There's definitely a case for spending significant money now to capitalise on the momentum. It just doesn't seem likely, and I can't argue with it too much - our current players deserve a chance at this level and trying to change too much too soon can be risky.

I just hope we don't get tempted to swap him for Danny Graham. Don't think we'll pursue Lenihan any further. Hope not too.

You haven't got a clue, have you?
If we all individually name almost everybody and anybody, the next time we lose a game after the window, no matter who CW has actually bought - there will be lots of names who the skin-flint Board have missed out on - so lots of 'justified' moaning
