Before Evans made his first start this season, our record was:- P8 W6 D1 L1 F14 A7 Pts 19

Cresswell started all 8 matches, 5 of them paired with Porter and 3 with Slew

Cresswell scored 3 goals, Porter and Lowton scored 2 each and 7 other players chipped in with a goal apiece

The conclusion to be drawn from this is that we don’t need Evans to win promotion

Manager, players and fans alike have to forget about the court case and just act like he’s picked up a groin-strain

Creswell and Porter should start up front together as they’re a proven, successful partnership

O Halloran to come off the bench and provide the pacy option we had previously with Slew

I don't have a problem with Cresswell and Porter up front as it will be a tough physical test against their defence, but it will need us to be effective from wide to turn Stevenage around and get crosses in they can attack.

They are a decent, hard working side, but at home and with promotion the aim there are no excuses, we have to win.

And we fucking will.

Three years ago we were 1 game away from automatic promotion to the PL and Stevenage were non-league. The fact that we are now meeting on equal terms is actually quite wonderful and all part of the romance of football, but are we seriously fallen so low that we are scared of them?

I see what you're saying. My concern is that we've got so used to playing around Ched that we are going to look clueless . My genuine hope is that the midfielders will do the business Saturday. I dont see many goals in BT, Porter and Cressy. I think Willo, K-Mac and perhaps Lowton are the more likely saviours.

The main thing Ched brought to the side is that he scored goals out of nothing, often creating them himself. Unfortunately I don't think our remaining strikers are capable of that (in fact I don't think anyone else in League One is). Without him, I think we will need to play with more width and get more crosses in. And I think Lowton could help with this by getting forward more, which I've always thought is his main strength.

I don't think anyone is saying we should fear Stevenage. However, we should respect them and bne wary. Whether they were non league a few years ago has no bearing on the fact that they have beaten us, Charlton, hammered Wednesday and outplayed Spurs this season. They are well drilled and well organised and if they do their homework, they can trouble us.

Good post though Sothall. Think I would start Cressy and Porter and have O'Hallarhan as an 'impact' sub. The other option might be to start Flynn or O'Hallarhan out wide, but this would mean dropping one of our more creative players in Quinn or Willo. But it probably makes sense to play the team that has got us here (barring Ched's absence) and bring in Cressy for Hoskinsl. Having Flynn, O'Hallaran and BT on the bench would at least give us options if we need them. I am pretty sure that Wilson will go with what has worked for him most of the season.
