I wouldn't judge West Ham on 1 game.
I'd expect us to finish above at least 4 of those 6 teams I listed.

Well quite, I just thought the timing was funny, especially seeing as how the team they thumped were Wolves, and everyone was saying don't worry about our defeat to Wolves cos they're an amazing side who will definitely be in the top six.

Need to rejig the system, its tired and predictable.

So you joined the forum 5 years ago, in 2015, and you posted for the first time today?, really?

Didn't post during the Nigel Adkins era?

Didn't post when Chris Wilder was appointed?

Didn't post when we won League 1, on 100 points?

Didn't post during our first season in the Championship when we were competing at the top end of the table?

Didn't post during our first season in the Championship when Paul Coutts took a shocking foul which broke his leg and hampered our chances of promotion?

Didn't post during our second season in the Championship when we were promoted before the end of the season, and could have gone top during the final game?

Didn't post all last season when we were fantastic and finished 9th?

Hope this doesn't offend you, but you come across like a fan of the grubby cheats.

You are not alone, by the way, lots on here at the moment, it's the only chance of commenting on Premier League football.

Everything surrounding football is wank at present. As such, I feel more an observer than a supporter. As an observer, I can't see us surviving this season - toothless, fragile and deserve to be bottom. I can only assume those that confidently say we'll finish mid table have managed to maintain the blind optimism I had as a supporter and really fcking miss. Please keep it up

I have it on good authority we are skint and unless we borrow monies gone.

Would anyone be surprised really it just smacks of the same old for us.

I really thought we were going places and going to kick on and invest properly this summer and establish ourselves.

But all we have done bar Ramsdale is add squad players it has been an awful window so far.

The fact we still don't have the strikers we have been crying out for and an attacking midfielder says it all.

Why we let Freeman go without getting a replacement in I will never know awful decision to let him go when we have no strength in depth.

As soon as I read Jack O'Connell maybe out for the season I knew we were fucked. A more defensive style of play, absolutely no goals from the midfield or forwards can only mean one thing. Without 2 or 3 new players then I don't see how we can get the points required. Prince it's up to you now, back Wilder or expect relegation and losing him.

If we are in a relegation fight who is to say the Prince won't blink first and pull the trigger on CW?

A goal poacher that's all is needed may be easier said than done. We played well against Leeds.their goalkeeper got man of the match-bt sport.
Enough chances to score. Leeds goal with two mins to go did us. Berger starting to show why we paid £20m for him.potencial to be out best player.since Tony Currie.
Sir Chris has asked the board to sign a goal poacher. they cost £25-£30m.the board has a choice.get the player now or we could be in for a relegation. where does the money come from mainly tv and sponserships.they are talking about improving the ground.I say leave that and get the player Sir Chris wants.leave the ground improvements, for now, .staying in the premier league is far more inportant.

I agree mate... positive mindset is how you should approach every situation in life... even the most difficult and one a that actually matter (outside of football)

We have to be realists though... these lads will always give their all and today the. Performance was there.

But (and it’s a big but) they stats don’t lie we don’t score enough and now we concede too. Wilder is starting to sound frustrated and the board seemingly don’t want to spend anymore cash. I’m addition we now have lost our 1st choice centre back and our rock in the middle is to miss another two games.

Anyone can smell relegation in the air - the harsh reality is we could be cut adrift 10 games in - not negative just realist.
I think our realities differ mate. Let's park it there😉

There are more than a few things going wrong at the moment and whether we can remedy some of them (or not) will be the difference:

  • Loss of JOC
  • Defence not keeping clean sheets
  • Our most threating striker out (Mouss)
  • A lack of a new striker
  • Our inability to create IF our wingbacks are taken out of the game
  • In the window, perhaps a focus too much on squad building rather than two/three quality additions to go straight in first 11
  • Small wage budget and small transfer budget, limiting our competitiveness in the window (which also can explain the above) and therefore not built on qualify additions like Berger.
  • We played out of our skin last year, which never lasts forever (the likes of Stevens, Fleck may not be able to re-create that form)
  • Other teams in transition last year are getting more stable (Man United, Everton etc)
  • Appalling decisions against us by refs and VAR.

Some of these things can be remedied of course - we can get tighter in defence, Mouss will come back from injury. But we are up against it right now, without doubt.

We were in a false postion last season in relation to our quality - which has raised expections too high. But I still think we can do better and if enough of the above issues are resolved quickly, we will stay up. We have the best manager to do this. It would be a massive, massive shame for us to drop after establishing ourselves so well last year, which to me, makes our current league position all the more frustrating.

So essentially you're saying O'Connell is worth 20 points?

I can't for the life of me understand why we didn't sign a replacement for Jack when we knew he was injured from last season. I would rather have kept Kieron Freeman at right back cover and spent the Bogle money on a left sided centre half. As I said previously, I really think the injury to JOC will see us relegated. We don't look the same in defence or attack without him.

We tried, Kongolo.

Don't know the veracity of reports that he failed a medical with us and with Fulham before Fulham bought him anyway, but he is currently injured so wouldn't have been available for a while anyway.

Freeman wasn't sufficient at this level, so we needed to get Bogle and Lowe in. Just because we also needed to get a CB in and didn't doesn't mean we shouldn't have brought them in when we had the opportunity.

Any free agents knocking about?

Wilder has said that Jack wasn't right from the restart of lock down. On that basis it was criminal we didn't sign another left sided centre back (Surely we knew Kongolo was injured seeing as he hasn't played for a while, and surely we didn't just have a list consisting of 1 target). Wilder also said we can't rely Robinson there all season, so I'm perplexed why it wasn't one of the first positions on the list. I disagree with you about Bogle, you sort the first team out before you sort the squad members out. If the first team isn't strong enough, the reserves aren't going to make much difference and you will struggle. That's no disrespect to Bogle by the way, he might end up being a good player, but our entire system relys on the right and left centre backs getting forward. If they don't, we are toothless and predictable.

Presumably the money for kongole was still available. I would have liked to have seen us bring a LCB in e.g.the kid at Millwall. Stevens, Robinson and even Ampadu seem like make do and mend options.

JOC and fleck have not been the same/carrying injuries since lockdown. Whilst Robinson and Osborn have had decent games in that time, they are both bit part players. For me the left hand side should have been strengthened in the window after the obvious shortcomings in goal and up front.

As are the supporters.
Totally agree, our supporters are looking like as big a problem as the team. We need them in the ground being positive, but similarly can offer unwaivering love to players online.

The reason for kissing our players arses, is the same reason you tell opposition players that they're shit... Psychology.

We're supposed to offer our players blind support.

Players get criticism from our management team.. coming from the fans it can only knock their confidence.

Also, people saying we're definitely getting relegated after a tiny portion of the season are ridiculous doom merchants.

Time will tell

As an eternal dreamer, I have to say that I am worried just now. However I am consoling myself with the fact that the Messiah just does not do relegation. Never has, and hopefully never will.

How many players are you suggesting and how much would you like him to spend?
Thought today we looked very average but at the moment we’re far better than a relegation team.
Also to be honest it’s 3 games.....the table doesn’t start revealing the good and weak teams until the 10 game played point.

10 games played, so you still confident we're far better than a relegation team?

My reputation disappeared far, far away into Row Z along with Lys Mousset's attempt on goal from all of 1 yard out at the Hawthorns. That was the night I finally realised how fucked we are.
Good of you to admit your mistake mate, we've all made them!
