Like everybody else I am enjoying watching the current style of football, strong at the back, creative in midfield and the pressing style all over the pitch for 90 minutes, however, yesterday, particularly in the first half there were a few occasions when the ball was put into the box and there was either nobody there or on at least one occasion when sharp was on his own surrounded by defenders, we,Sat on the kop started noticing that it seemed to be because done and sharp were closing down in other areas that they couldn't get back in the box, not sure if this is something that has been happening earlier in the season but it definitely did yesterday, not complaining just an observation

I mentioned this in another thread, I think it's down to the 352 formation, which is good, but we are struggling to get men in the box at times

I still think the delivery in to the front two needs improving (when they are in the box of course, which is an issue by itself as highlighted in the OP).

While the shirts are theirs for the time being, I am not sure Sharp n Done have a great understanding as a front 2 in terms of feeding off each other. On paper it should work a treat but somehow, it just doesn't (or hasn't to date).

However, Yesterday was a watershed in terms of quality chances created. Owing much to the superiority of Fleck, Coutts and Duffey, as has been discussed elsewhere.

If the chance creation continues on or around this level, the front two will have a field day in coming games.

You may well have a point, that this was the case yesterday. I often complained last season, that Billy, as a goalscorer would often find himself battling for the ball out wide, putting a cross in for himself...

However, its worth looking at the goals from yesterday (and the ones disallowed). We had a number of players in the box. Done and Sharp finding themselves in good positions and but for a slightly later run or a bit of smarter thinking they would have had a few more goals.

I think the counter to your argument is both Duffy and Scougs goals, both scored in the second half and both from a few yards out. Dufffy having made a very clever diagonal run, finds himself in a perfect position to tap in the rebound and Scougs there with the header.

I didn't see the rest of the game, but from the chances and goals, i think we have consciously worked on getting midfield players into the box, in case Done and Sharp are dragged out or pushed out wide

It's quite challenging to press correctly. If you can do it right you can play more creative players and you don't have to lose a place to a Doyle or Monty type.
If you press wrong you can be caught out ppf position and give theither players too much space when they haven't got the ball.
If you press as a unit and cover the spaces the pressing players leave, not only do you make the opposition rush and make errors but you don't need big tackling midfielders either.

As the season progress s we are getting better and wasting less opportunities. That is to be expected as the team gells .Decision making and the final ball has been our big problem it is improving game on game.Still feel we are short up front as I have said earlier, once we get that right (window?) no reason why we can't go up this season.
