This lad Diego?

With all the dog shit abuse the bloke McEverely has taken , hats off to the bloke . It's about being professional in what you do both on and off the pitch . Ok he may not be good enough for a promotion winning side , but he ain't a billy big bollocks , as Diego is certainly giving a good impression that he is.

Both may not be good enough , but at least one is trying his hardest , the other with bucket loads of talent , is coming across he ain't good enough , not with talent but with attitude.

Don't rate McEverly but if it was a swipe at Diego , it's only what the majority of fans are thinking , and also it appears senior pros at the club . For any young player , show talent , attitude and commitment , you have a chance .
Diego has done fuckall to date , and playing in u21 games is light years playing in the first team .

Chesterfield , Mansfield and a non league club interested in taking him on loan - tells all .

Hope Diego makes it , like we all do , but it's up to him , everyone one is IMO routing for him to succeed , but the lad does not help himself .

Fair point .......

I suppose the question to ask is, if he were in the team where would he play ......... would anybody put him upfront instead of Sharp ?

The season long question is who partners Sharp. Adams has the spot at the moment but has been up and down. I don't think many want him to start though, just make the matchday squad to try to earn a place with some cameos as a sub.

Diego has been injured for most of this season, but has come back and scored goals for the U21s.
2 more at Millwall last time out.

He must have done something wrong behind the scenes, hes not getting a look in, despite his form.

Only on the bench today for the U21s v Colchester, as Jordan Hallam has got the nod ahead of him.

Been impressed when I`ve seen Diego this season, and on football ability alone, he deserves to train with the first team squad.

Why should he get the nod to be training with the first team squad over someone like Jake Wright, who's been banging them in all season? I haven't seen Wright play, but on the basis of reports doesn't he have a stronger claim to be involved?

It's one of them horns of a dilemma thingy's. (Summon the apostrophe police). Apart from WHF and one other the majority of fans (as well as Adkins recently) don't rate Sammon for the job up front. In the club we apparently have a superior talent capable of prodigious feats of skill and goalscoring and yet he does't get selected over Sammon for the bench. He's either not good enough (which I'm not buying as the club gave him a new contract on improved terms) or as Adkins has alluded to, he doesn't work hard enough in training. When do you just accept that a kid who is talented but doesn't work should get a chance over a workhorse with no talent? Especially when you are in need of goals and a little bit of sparkle?

I too would like to at least see him on the bench but it seems that Adkins has made this his personal "trial of strength". Managers eh!

Hallam scored a hat-trick for the U18s recently so it's good to see him making the step up. Let's hope that 1 or more of DdG, DCL, Jake Wright and Jordan Hallam can make the step up on a regular basis and give us some real firepower to add to Sharp and Adams.

I'm pretty sure Sammon will be getting good appearance fees, hence the saving money quote.

I would have thought appearance fees were more likely for a contracted player than a loan player. I would think we'd just be paying Derby a certain percentage of his wage. Not sure though.

If this is the case then my post was utter bullshit. We still don't need Sammon though. :)

I agree. Sammon is not the answer for us (though I don't subscribe to the view he's completely useless and he does bring some attributes to the table). In the summer, I hope we sign an upgrade on Sammon to partner Billy with Adams, DCL, DdG and Wright and maybe even Hallam pushing for places on the bench (perhaps being rotated in now and then).

I was so close to liking your post but then you said Sammon brought some attributes to the table, are you talking about a poker table or something? :D

Judging by twitter Wright seems to have broken his wrist.

Lost 2-0. That's what happens when you drop a bloke whose scored 5 in 4.

Just kidding.

Bound to happen some time. 17, great effort!

Because he is a much better player.

Wright 'banging them in'??, I have seen every home U21, and half a dozen away, and he is nowhere near first team material, and has barely scored since Oct.

That's a shame to hear, as I'd heard Wright had been quite promising. I'd be interested to see the U21 stats as I got the impression he'd scored quite a few. I have seen De Girolamo play this season for the first team and thought he looked way out of his depth. But that may have been a one off. I think I'll leave judgement on their relative abilities to the coaching team that watch his abilities, and his attitude, on a daily basis...

Think the writing is on the wall for Diego, 5 goals in his last 4 U21 games, and not even in the first team squad, at a time anyone doing well in the reserves is involved, ie Kelly and Brooks.

Adkins said earlier this season, Diego needs to learn what it takes to be a professional,.

Surely the penny had to drop for Diego soon, or a promising career will be wasted.

Our Nige is supposed to be clearing pathways for lads like Diego? The real trick as a manager is to chastise these wayward youngsters but still get the best out of them. . . . Not rocket science eh?

The fact that more than one manager hasn't been able to do that with this lad points to the suggestion that the problem may lie with him...

Morgan was very keen on DiMaio signing for Chesterfield.in fact I understand he was the conduit. Not so much Diego. Is he wrong as well?

This was took from the official site, it sounds like Diego should've started.

United's U21s saw their impressive 17 match unbeaten run in the Professional Development League come to an end at the Look Local Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The sequence which dates back to the beginning of November was ended by Femi Akinwande, who netted a goal in each half for the U's, who produced a very professional performance at the home of Stocksbridge Park Steels.

The visitors were quickly on the offensive and after Eastwood had stood tall to an effort at his near post, Brooks was needed to head off the line from the resulting corner.

The Blades were struggling to get a foothold in the contest and just after the half hour fell behind, as AKINWANDE fired home into the top corner on the angle.

Before the break, Colchester almost doubled their advantage, but a shot trickled inches wide of Eastwood's far post, with the goalkeeper scrambling across his line.

United made a change at the interval with De Girolamo replacing Kimarni Smith and the Italian youth international almost restored parity with a curling left-footed effort having engineered an opening for himself.

As the heavens opened, United's unbeaten record was in seriously jeopardy as AKINWANDE applied the finishing touch from much closer range after the Blades failed to their lines.

With the game petering out, De Girolamo came close for a second time, hitting the post, whilst at the other end Eastwood saved smartly, but in the end United's youngsters were forced to taste defeat for the first time since doing so at leaders Huddersfield Town on the 2nd November.

Speaking after the game, Coach John Dungworth was in reflective mood, but praised the youngsters for they had achieved in recent months and went on to demand a strong end to the campaign in the remaining three matches.

He said: "It is disappointing that such a fine run has come to an end, but ultimately it was just one of those days.

"We weren't at our best, we didn't start well and credit to Colchester they imposed themselves on the game and saw it out very well in the second-half.

"But the run is something for everyone to be proud of, especially the players, who deserve all the credit.

"Now we have to move on and make sure we finish well as we look to cement a top two finish and a place in the end season play-offs."

Blades: Eastwood, Charlesworth, Kelly, Gilmour, Banton, Semple, Coustrain (T. Smith 66) Brooks, Cockerline (Hall 74), Hallam, K. Smith (De Girolamo 45).
Unused: Ramsdale, Cummings.

Yes but if the club is a proper meritocracy then good performances for the U21's should warrant a place on bench at least, even if he is a mardy little twat?

We've been shipping out mardy little twats for a while. If he is, why should be be treated differently to say, McNulty?

I love the idea that the manager of a struggling football team has a top class talent in the reserves and just refuses to play him because he's a little bit mardy.
